one of my best worships songs even it is old songs but it touches my heart..

Only place I have ever heard this song was in Marine Bootcamp when we sang at out of hymnal & then over 20 yrs later at a predominantly black church from the choir.Never found this song in any hymnal since bootcamp.

Any Biblically literate people have any thoughts on why the lyrics are "almost right"? 1: Three couplets are reversed (surely for rhyme and syllable agreement) 2. Two couplets are omitted. 3. Love-Hate is repeated 4. The final "Peace" is a half a couplet and the end line "I swear its not too late" is antithetical to Jesus' command not to swear becasue you have no control (Matthew 5:34) and betrays the ideological message of the counter culture "hippie" movement. I'm going to say that I cannot accept this song as a God-honoring song or a worship song or the like because its not done in a spirit of worship- that last line betrays that it is a social-political position song, using Biblical lyrics selectively. Remember when Satan tempted Christ (Matthew 4)? He quoted the Psalms three times... almost correctly. Discernment is not simply determining between right and wrong- often it is determining between right and almost right. This is a pop culture song that quotes Scripture almost correctly. Almost. Sure its iconic to a generation, sure the tune is enchanting (word chosen carefully), sure it reminds people of Scripture, sure its idylic... but the lyrics are ALMOST right.
