I'm a storm chaser from Minnesota, and I started this channel as a teenager roughly ten years ago. Today I'm an adult with seven years of experience chasing regionally. In 2025, I'm hoping to expand the scope of this project and finally start to put some viewable content together.
LP Supercell Near Danbury, Wisconsin, June 27th, 2022
A baby supercell spun up along an outflow boundary amidst weak height falls on the evening of June 27th, 2022. I watched it pinwheel over a field for a few minutes before it lost steam.

Chasing A Monster HP Supercell In Central Minnesota: August 3rd, 2024

A supercell developed along a cold front in western Minnesota and produced an EF-1 tornado near Melrose on the evening of August 3rd, 2024. Navigation errors and poor visibility made this chase difficult. I never had a clear view of the tornado, but the storm's structure was incredible.

We recently acquired a dashcam to help shed some new light on our storm chases. The quality is overall pretty good, but the exposure settings could have been adjusted to compensate for the brightness of the snowy landscape.
June 19th, 2016 Tornado Event (Radar Loop)

This was one of the biggest severe weather events in the Duluth CWA last year. We produced this radar loop using the NOAA Weather and Climate Toolkit, a handy tool which we may do a video tutorial on at some point. It should.
Website won't download the files anymore. Trying to get the events of the Mayfield EF4 on a free trial of GR2Analyst and clicking the direct download links just won't do anything.
Is this software useful for only USA? Please suggest some other software for weather radar data interpretation and visualization for any other countries.

Dont know if you will see this, but their was some tornados reported in north carolina, florida, and georgia last night / early morning today and i was wanting to view those storms archived data, found your video but the site seems to not be working, when im selecting the date nothing happens or changes

Thank you for the help but how did you download that day I want to know so badly
I did the polling and every thing but I can't see storms from the Sterling VA radar. If I go anywhere else in the country and see the storms the 3D rendering won't show up.

When I click on "Direct Download" it takes me to a white screen. Any ideas what happened?
It may be because the files you are looking to download are too recent. It can take up to a day for the files to appear when you hit direct download. Otherwise there could be an issue with the server - I noticed the same thing yesterday. Click "order data", enter your email and they will send you an FTP link that should work if the files have been processed by the NWS.

What computer/Laptop are you using, and what would you recommend for me to use?
Apologies for the late response - I have an HP Pavilion from 2016, but I really don't really recommend this model because I've had issues with screws coming out, structural issues, etc. Not really the best design. My friend has a Dell with better build quality and a Quad Core Intel Core i7 - from what I know it works like a dream. I actually made this video on an old Lenovo desktop, just before I got the laptop.
I actually just got an Acer nitro 5 gaming laptop and will get either grlevel 3 or RadarScope for it, also no problem about the late response. Appreciation-The Emerald Weather

Yeah, that's a great storm to look at also look at the May 31st 2013 storm, that one took out the Twistex team in El Reno.

You are very welcome! I'm not sure if GR2Analyst has any functions for exporting more than one. For making GIFs or animations, we recommend the free NOAA Weather and Climate Toolkit. It has built in features for doing this, plus a historical data file browser. Our video of the June 19th, 2016 tornado event was made using this program. Only thing is, I'm not sure if the Weather and Climate Toolkit can stream live radar data. I hope this helps!

I downloaded it, and it says the program is offline (looks like yours says the same thing) but mine shows no data/info in the little things at the top (BR, BV, PHI, etc.) NEED HELP!!
Hello! Sorry for the late response. Perhaps you typed the data feed into the program incorrectly? It won't function if it doesn't know where to pull raw data from

Nice work. But what are "kilo feet" (sp?)? Tried to look up but got junk. I'm guessing that one kilo foot equals 1000 feet in English measurements?? Thanks in advance!

Forgot to mention: The files in this database are labeled in Zulu Time in the filename, which makes it easier to find what you're looking for. There are Zulu conversion charts readily available online.

Hi, very nice video! Just one question. Qhat if I would like to show data from a custom radar which volumes are stored in a custom data format? Should I convert the custom data format into nexrad level II format right? Do you have some information, link and sources to do this? Cheers.
Thanks! I don't know very much about other formats/custom data, but to use the functionality of GR2Analyst, you're going to want level II data or it probably won't display properly. But you could check out GR2Analyst's website to see if any other formats are supported I guess.

How do programs like this and WSV3 get their real-time NEXRAD sweeps? I'd think that NOAA would offer them free on their site, maybe they do.. or they need you to host your own server for the bandwidth and so on.
I the NWS offers the information for free (because it's a public service). A few universities provide the information live for software like this to connect to
