    What means weight when it's all made of foam. That's still a horible product. It smells, isnt natural, deforms faster and has way higher profit margins.

    "slick" mats can be slippery when wet but you're expected to wear shoes like sambo/wrestling (sambo are leather bottom wrestling are rubber so you get much more intense grip with wrestling shoes however this can be more dangerous especially with knee "folding" IE:kani basami) whereas martial arts mats are textured for grip (meant to be used barefoot) however they can produce some nasty Matt burn... personally I prefer textured, just wear some kneepads to mitigate the burn.

    The most frustrating thing about martial arts gear is in the sizing especially if you're a big strong guy because they're all made for slender Asian frames. I'm 6ft tall 300lb with a 50" waist and only a couple products fit me but none of them wrap properly except ones I had to tailor down in height. All they do is up size the entire product... they don't make it for bigger stronger people so if I get a gi that fits me I have to tailor it down from the seven-foot-tall cut they deliver to your door because the ridiculous manufacturers just assume the same frame at the same standard dimensions rather than keeping it of average height/length and just making it bigger to accommodate a larger more powerful individual. When I was 350lbs I only had two gis that would fit and they were hard to find and exorbitantly expensive for what they were...Fuji 10 and MACS 12 (these were the largest commercial Gis available but of course they were cut for people who were 10 ft tall so they are comically long!

    • @zikriwaie109
      @zikriwaie109 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      bro you're not strong, you're just big.. maybe a bit muscular. But in any given time, a small frame 73kg Asian Olympic judoka EASILY can sweep down all your bodyweight and smash your ego.

    • @BURGAWMMA
      @BURGAWMMA 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zikriwaie109 I'm big and strong just like heavyweight champion Judo grapplers but they get their gis custom made, I have to buy off the shelf and they don't make them for big strong men off the shelf because most of you average people are sporting tiny lil chicken legs😅 big strong men are a minority group so less manufacturers accommodate us...its just that simple

    • @bb320
      @bb320 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you are not strong or big, you are just fat. It's not slender ASIAN frame, it's call atheletic build, ...If there is a standard gi that fits Teddy Riner, there will be a gi that fit a 6ft 300Lb dude providing that they don't have a beer gut.

    • @zikriwaie109
      @zikriwaie109 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @BURGAWMMA 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@zikriwaie109 Im 6' 300lbs with a 50" waist and 30% body fat... that's a common size for a heavyweight American wrestler and I have no problem fitting into any of that gear because it's American made but Asian made gear is too small for big strong American athletes. I remember the Samoans in Hawaii having the same problem... tiny little Asian gear is made from tiny little Asian people

    We are lucky to have Hatashita in Canada. We don’t have much of anything martial arts related up here when it comes to judo/BJJ. Service is always excellent and they offer several payment options including financing through a third party.

  • @anthonylawrence3265
    @anthonylawrence3265 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I see your point about the cross over and a good gi will have both sides level but others are at different angles, which looks odd. Great review.

  • @oraclebjj
    @oraclebjj 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video demonstration. I get the bubbling doesn’t look good but conpare that to the wrestling or Gracie mat system. One giant vinyl sheet (with wrinkles galore) over foam. This is where I’m at. Tatami mats look better. But have seems to worry about during either heavy sweating (summers here in toronto doing bjj -btw i was disappointed it wasn’t mentioned 😂, we produce literal pools of sweat the lines you’ve never seen) and mopping/clean up. No judge. I’m genuinely trying to decide.

    • @kazlepek6552
      @kazlepek6552 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I didn’t quite understand what you said about sweating and tatami mats. Can you elaborate what you mean? Is there an issue with sweat and tatami mats?

    • @oraclebjj
      @oraclebjj 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kazlepek6552 oh i just meant that tatamis clearly will have seams/cracks/lines between each tatami after installation. Vs single sheet of vinyl tarp (with foam under lay), edge to edge (I’m talking 1000sqft +, not your garage/basement). Now add in sweat. Lots of sweat and quickly you can see that the cracks become an issue of cleanup and hygiene. During my time on tatamis i did give it some thought while in the tatami Mat system. But then you’d fight and forget about it. Now that I’m a dojo owner i have several students that have explicitly expressed disdain for cracks taking in sweat. That’s all meant. I’m not here to slander tatamis. There are probably plenty situations that it makes sense. You have to do your research and make the best choice. From a cost perspective Vinyl was supposed to be the cheaper cost effective method. But maybe it’s post covid with run away inflation but they are now close in price. You also have to think about portability if that’s important to you. Oss.

      Hello friend. Did you ever find a good mat for your dojo? The tatami mats also just fundamentally look better. I saw you mentioned Toronto, isn't the average temperature in Summer like 24.5C or 76F?

    • @oraclebjj
      @oraclebjj ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Banjoboo thanks yes. I did. I bought direct from manufacturer and now a reseller for smaller orders. Toronto gets anywhere between 25-35C but a wet humid heat off the lake. So it feels a LOT worse.
