Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek via Old Stage & Gold Camp Roads
Join me on an incredible December 2024 journey from Colorado Springs to Cripple Creek, navigating the historic Old Stage Road and Gold Camp Road. At an elevation of about 10,000 ft, this route offers breathtaking views and a trip through history.
Gold Camp Road, initially a connection between Cheyenne Mountain and Cripple Creek, faced a major setback in 1988 when Tunnel #3 collapsed, closing a significant section to vehicles. This road now connects through Old Stage Coach Road before rejoining the true Gold Camp Road. While it's not the most challenging 4x4 road, it serves as a gateway to Cripple Creek and other amazing trails. Once a Ute Indian Trail and then a rail line, this route is rich in history and natural beauty, especially in the fall with its stunning aspen groves.
Throughout the 26-mile journey, expect tight curves, low visibility areas, and a few washed-out sections-typical of summer's peak season. It was an extremely windy day, adding to the adventure. Apologies for the occasional audio issues and my arm getting tired from holding the camera. I hope you enjoy the ride and maybe even find it relaxing enough to help you fall asleep.
Filmed with a DJI Action 4 camera and navigated using OnX Offroad's offline map, this trip showcases the beauty of Colorado's mountains, often without any cell signal. My trusty 2024 Nissan Frontier Pro-4X handled the journey like a champ.

I installed a set of Burly Slammers on my Street Bob. It went from 12" to 10.5" and the difference is significant. I did the installation on my own with my own basic hand tools. Tree Falls Into Street

Neighbors cutting down a dead pine tree. They used a truck to pull out away from the house and into the street. The neighborhood came together to direct traffic and prevent it falling onto a car. I was kinda hoping a car would get crushed honestly, oh well. Main reason I pulled out the camera. We helped clear it off the street afterwards.

I miss my 03 RG, I sold it 2010 with 100K on the odometer and the guy I sold it to has since put another 125K on the old girl.. motor been replace but she still running. I have a slide show video of when I rode her out to Colorado. nice video.

2024 Update: This bike was stollen in 2018. I am now riding my dads (RIP) 2003 Road Glide.
Actually, the clearance between the belt guard, and drivebelt, should remain equidistant throughout the suspension travel.

The H-D fairing, is that the standard windshield on the quarter or did you add to the quarter? I like it a lot but was wondering if it’s an additional piece. I was thinking of doing the complete Slammer kit to mine.

No kit required. Use the existing hardware.
@kotipelto, it didn't actually hit after the installation but a bump would definitely cause it to.

Im seriously considering doing this on my 16' FXDB and I agree with wanting to put the belt guard back on, did you ever find a way to put it back on without having to cut a notch in it?
its not about lowering the bike, it's about filling in that huge empty space in the rear fender. Now it doesn't look so much like a dirt bike fender.

I would start with checking electronic Bay (eBay). Or look at other options that might look better any way. You have to make your bike your's : )

Tim Franko. A stage 1 upgrade includes improved exhaust such as Screaming Eagle slip-ons, a recalibration of the EFI and and upgraded air cleaner.
Alton Hardin Sounds like I wasn't that far off. I have high flow exhaust, air cleaner and efi tune. I can turn a wrench but I get lost in all the fast and furious lingo. I still granny shift...
MrGPAS211 I am with you on the lingo. You are way ahead of me if you know how to work on these things. I can ride them, I can't work on them. My knowledge only comes from asking questions when I'm at the dealership.

You didn't list what upgrades?
xbeautifuldiscordx That was a critical error! Well the main upgrade was the Vance and Hines short shots with the "quiet baffles" that aren't quiet at all. I'm sure my neighbors would agree when I start it up in the morning to go to work. Second is a Vance and Hines grenade air cleaner, and the efi tuner Vance and Hines "fuel pack".
Just ordered these for my 2016 Steet Bob! Can't wait to get them and put them on.
