    I knew someone in Murray, Iowa that had a 656, I even drove it once, if I remember correctly..... He died I think 15 or 16 years ago....he had a hay field right along hwy 34....And another on the west end of town.....and he mowed, raked and baled other fields for other folks, as well.....

    Glow plugs will start the engine even at mines 25 if the batteries are in good condition. IH fixed the 560 axle problem,it was a great tractor. The 1206s also had axle issues many broke in the fields working, allowing the duals to crunch into the cab sometimes in extremely rough conditions.

    These will run forever. I have seen them as as small kid everywhere back in the day. 30 years later they were replaced with newer models but smaller farms still have them and use them daily. Even a snow plowing company we contract on yearly basis to remove snow from a parking lot and driveway is still using one from 80s.

      Hello again. So when I tore into my brakes the left side was missing the friction plates pads but had a fresh piston. I bought some off of a different 706. The outer cover ended up being shallower. And one of the friction disks was much thinner than what was on the right side. Not worn. Just thinner. Not having much luck finding any info. Any suggestions? One set of the parts aren't from a 706 I believe. Similar but not similar enough.

    • @RuralMidwest
      @RuralMidwest 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SplitReins Ok, so when I did mine I ordered an entirely new piston from NAPA (a&i products) that new piston came with an already bonded friction pad on it. I believe that is what you are referring to? throughout the entire brake assembly that can be differences that is why you have self adjusting screws on the brakes to take out that play. Hopefully that is helpful. I am not a mechanic though I am just an average guy trying to make it work also lol

    • @RuralMidwest

      This is a very small portion of the stalk bales we make in a year, we do 99% round bales and we don't mow the stalks we just rake it and bale it. My brother who raises hogs wanted to mow it so he can have finer bedding. We also find that his square baler handles it much better when it is mulched up.

    This reminds me of my own hay operation. If it's not one thing, it's another... that breaks, won't run, catches on something, or it rains! But I still love it. Fortunately, I'm only making enough hay for my own 2 horses. About 200 bales each year. Maybe when I retire in a few years, I'll have time to cut and bale more hay to sell. And then, only if I want to.

    I have 2 656's with the D282. One Hydro and one gear drive. They were designed to use the glow plugs regardless of the temperature. The gear drive one I have will start in any weather without being plugged in. Just use the glow plugs. They get a bad rap, but they work for me. Spent a lot of time on a 504. The TA lever should stay back when you pull it. Something is wrong if it doesn't. Nice little tractor.
