Can I ask why you dont cut the mane? Not the moustache! Not the moustache!
Haha 😄 it's personal preference. If we didn't think we could make the time to take care of his mane, then we would cut it. I will be doing a video of him running in the arena with his hair down, so stay tuned.
@ModernAcres that will look beautiful. I admire your patience with his mane. I couldn't do it.
@@carolineramage7480 it is also the bred standard for a Gypsy Vanner/Tinker Horse to have a long mane.
Love ❤️ this Horse of course 🎵🎵 lo l…

Can you trim the hair under the nose that would be nice for the horse.❤🎉😊
The hair protects the skin, and he uses it like a hand.
Oh that’s better❤🎉👍what a lovely mane he, or she has , the hair in front of the mouth needs some trimming off. And the forelock.❤🎉I do hope you both have a lot of patience for this is going to be an on going procedure. ., especially if you love horses❤🎉😮😊And I love horses too. ❤🎉😊
Thank you! We love him! I think the hair on his mouth looks silly, but it serves a purpose, and he uses it like a hand.
Hey what about getting the comb to the matted mane first ❤ sorry but that’s no good . Would you like it if someone did your hair Like that???👎
The mane wasn't matted. There were tangles because it is long. The only part of the braid that gets bad is at the base because he puts his head through the fence.
That's a pretty hoof!!
Foot care is one of the most important things for a horse, in our opinion.
A few days after they hit the ground starting with rubbing and touching legs, feet and body, halter/leading for vet care and handling. They get big fast, and that first hoof trim will soon be upon you.
Have you tried those long sock-like bags made especially for mane and tails? I think it would help keep the braids tidy in between upkeeps.
We have tried them. The horses always seem to find a way to rub them out. They do work well while they are in.
Give us a hint!😂😂
He is 56 inches. What is that in hands?
Hi .. Have you thought about making platted bracelet from the hair that's coming out.. Or save it until you can make something from the hair as a side hustle .. Lots of TH-cam instructions on platter bracelet..
I haven't. I will look into that. Thank you for the idea!

I am here and subc to you👌
Thank you!!
I didn’t see her licking
This is not the full video.
POOR HORSE😢 It’s very unkept for a long time you can tell
Thank you for your input, hair that is unkept will not grow this long. Even when taken care of, it is hard to grow this length. His hair looks like this after 2 days.
He kinda looks like if you let him out, he might invade Poland
@Infekted1-1 so like an Adolf Kittler situation?

@Rebecca-qs7mc You too! Thank you
Horses have moustaches now??? I never knew that Does he have like a hormonal imbalance?
@Le_Bold_Thinker No, he doesn't have a hormonal imbalance. It's his breed. Some grow longer mustaches than others.
@ModernAcres Awwwww!!! He's a cutie anyways. I was only asking because as a human female, my hormones are not in balance and it causes me to have a little more fuzz on my upper lip. Lol
@Le_Bold_Thinker 😆 so raw! Same girl same. The mares grow mustaches too, so I don't feel too bad!!
That horse is struggling, so quit being mean to it
I'm sorry you feel that way. He is capable of pulling 5 times the weight he is pulling. We are very careful about how much we ask him to do so we do not overdo it. That mutual respect is why he is willing to work hard. Gypsy Vanners were bred for generations to pull.
It looks like this horse has a great place to live and enjoys his work
@Maryshomesteadhaven Thank you!!!
Those mountains in the back look cool!
I love living in the mountains.
Aww dont cut his hair please... 😢 I adore this breed and ugh any little bit could hurt their mane growth..... 😢... I know your doing your best . Thank you. ❤
@t.leanne88 right??? I told my husband he shouldn't cut it. Sometimes, when it gets too bad, it is kinder to cut it than spend hours trying to get it untangled.
@@ModernAcres oh yes I can only imagine how it can get.... But ahh it's so long and gorgeous. Do they make detangler hair spray for horses? They must!! ... Such gorgeous horses you have ❤️ watching your videos
@t.leanne88 Yes, we use cowboy magic and show shein for detangler. Thank you for watching! We love spending time with our horses.
@@ModernAcres ❤️❤️❤️ your great keep it up . Love your channel ❤️
Laser Sheen.
I will have to try it, thank you!
@barbrice721 Have you tryed cowboy magic?
@ModernAcres NO. Is it good.
@barbrice721 I really like it! I will try laser sheen. I'm pretty sure our local feed store carries it
Wow! As much as I love spending time with our horses I do not have the patience for a mane or tail like that. Of course we have Quarter Horses so they wouldn't normally have a name & tail like that. We keep a bridle path clipped & I pull the manes according to the neck shape & thickness, the tails normally maybe 4 inches below the hock. May let some go longer & just put a tail bag on them with a loose braid. I had a blue roan gelding when i was a kid & I was determined to grow a long, flowing mane & tail. All it took for me to change my tune on that was after we had gone out to gather roping steers in a pasture full of burrs. The mane was braided & so was the tail. We had unsaddled the horses & turned them into a small pasture while we went to get lunch. They had plenty of food, the grass & sadly the burrs were tall & there was a creek running through one corner of the pasture so they had plenty of water. After lunch & some errands later we got back. All of the horses had rolled. 🤬 The difference between my horse & the others was the long braided mane & tail. Horses were brushed & resaddled & after another 2 hours we loaded them up & headed for home. I spent 3 days getting those dang burrs brushed out. After I would quit for the day my horse would walk over to a tree in the corner of our corral where he stayed until I was done with him & started rubbing along his crest leaving clumps of hair on the tree. My dad told me it was probably like me after I had worn pony tails or braids for a long time, it made my head hurt & maybe Clay's crest hurt from his braids. Maybe so but all I knew was all thoughts of long & flowing disappeared & dad taught me to pull manes & tails. 😆 Besides, after I started roping a long, flowing mane would have been in the way & the rope could get caught up (I roped left-handed) & get pulled out. 🤔 Have fun with your little Irish Cob. Are you in the states? Where did you find an Irish Cob in the states? I have only seen a handful of Vanners & none of them had their mustaches so when I see the mustache, it brings up the Irish Cob even though they are the same thing. Just how my brain works I guess. 😏
@wizelbee thank you for sharing. It can be tough when going out on trails. We always watch for burrs. We found that baby oil helps if they do happen to get burrs. The reason we braid on both sides is because when the hair is this long, if it is all on one side, it is too heavy and will pull on his crest. He is considered a gypsy vanner or Irish cob. Most people don't know they are irish cobs! You know your horses! He was originally imported from the Netherlands. We have 2 stallions that grow a mustache and two mares. It is harder to find the ones that can grow a good one.
@@ModernAcres I wish I had thought of baby oil 50 yrs. ago. 😆 I know a little about a lot of horses & some I know very little. My dad was a bonded livestock buyer & while he mostly dealt with Quarter Horses we had Thoroughbreds, draft, but I cannot recall ever seeing a Vanner until I was an adult. They are beautiful, I do know that. Looks like you have a nice set up there. You two have a great 2025.
@wizelbee thank you so much! I love being in the horse world. It gives us the opportunity to meet some of the best people around, and you seem like you are one of them. Have a great 2025!
