This will be such a wonderful parade of COLOR come spring! I feel a bit sad now that I did not plant any bulbs, in fact I only have a few varieties of tulips, but these do come back reliably each year. One of the biggest problems with my region is that spring often arrives late and then so quickly turns HOT that the flowers then fry and fade away, though this spring was cool and they lasted and lasted, I guess I just take my chances!

I planted 'Blue Light' this spring, I received it mail order and it was a bit broken up, so I prune it very hard and it surprises me how vigorously it develops and blooms so beautifully for months on end even when hard pruned, a wonderful variety, I love the doubles!

Do you have good subsoil, or it is heavy clay? I mostly have silty very easy to dig soil, though around the foundation of the house where it was backfilled, I had to remove the heavy soil and I did so to a very deep depth, it looked like a I was digging a grave trench all along my house, lol .... when I was doing so, a friend stopped by and mocked me for my "overboard" deep digging, well this "trench" was filled with light fluffy soil amended with plenty of peat moss, peat moss is by the tens of millions of acres in Canada, there is no worry of depletion ... anyways, my clematis grow and thrive like gangbusters, this spring a small starter plant of 'Venosa Violacea' had grown to 4 meters, 'Fairy Dust to over 3 meters!
