Speaking of the fish reproducing not that I know much about fish I'm more experience with game birds and bird dogs, however I wondered how difficult it is for them in the Des Plaines due to the periodic Springtime early summer you might say flash intense flooding with super strong current. As we know people used to like to throw their old tires in the river, and of course most of them are still there they haven't been picked up by Boy Scouts or Isaac Walton cleaning parties or something got me to thinking, saw a video of the guy in his kayak he was casting at a fish that was hanging out in one of those old tires. Maybe, the old tires even though they are an eyesore can make a good spot Mrs Bass Mrs other type of fish to make her nest

The first time I ate pike I fell in love with that meat

I've been fishing DPR for 4 years now, that exact same section, maybe i just havent figured out the river yet cause I always see vids of ppl fishing this river, such as yourself, just absolutely slaying em. I was wondering if you can give me any tips, your preferred lures to use for Pike/Bass/Saugar? How to find em...Any advice in general I'd appreciate. Anyways, love the vids.

Yes, that 42inch pike and probably the other large pike did not make it either. At least three things you don't want to do, first don't use an open face reel, you put them under too much stress, because you are fighting them for too long! Use a bait caster reel. Second you laid them down on hot and or dry plastic bottom of your kayak, you will shock them, it removes their protective slime that keeps them protected from different elements in the water. Third if they hit their head at all on your kayak floor or sides that alone could kill them. Lastly you had them out of the water too long. Try reading up on the proper care of any fish that you go out to catch. There are tons of You Tube videos out there that show you the Right way to handle fish.

Last year was a really good spring on the pier for coho. Looking forward to a new spring season. Last year I was surprised that I did not catch a steelhead or brown from the pier early. I only have a couple left from last year and Lent is upon me.

do you think size #4 can catch pike? i see everyone catch pike with #5

Those areas used to be way better when dam #1 and #2 were still in place. I fished there a lot when I lived over by Beck lake.

Can you catch coho and steelhead all summer from the pier?

When I was a kid in the early 80s my cousin and I caught chubs that size on the regular in a small farm stream in eastern Ohio. I'm not trying to be negative at all, I just thought that was a normal size for a chub based on what we caught.
