Used to a great nightclub called Bentley’s in the 70/80s in Kirkcaldy.
Ex Prime Minister,Gordon Brown comes from Kirkcaldy as does crime author Val McDermid!
At 3.00 on the left of the road is what I believe a Mr Fontana Ice cream van, some of the creamiest ice cream in Fife.
As an apprentice electrician with JDW Hamilton, I spent a few days disconnecting that stage. About 30 years later I ended up by coincidence speaking to the lady from Florida who was running the theatre it ended up in.
The guy in the middle of the Philips picture(with the glasses)looks like Alan Bennet a lovely human being.
TTYoungs electrical suppliers up the back of the high street gone a long time ago too
Since your website is no longer available, any chance you could upload the full version?
The Apollo will never die because of the history it has, its been gone for decades but it seems as strong as ever....you cant say that about many venues..its part of rock history, if you were a great, you played the Apollo/Greens Playhouse...even if you were a support act, just playing on that stage and being able to say, hey I was there..thats a memory that can never die...Long Live The Apollo, BTW the Facebook page is a great way to share any memories you have or just want to bask in the glory of past gigs...
the high street looks so grand then, now it seems to be empty and sad
weclome to Kirkcaldy flats, SHITE! lol love the old vids.
I worked for Unicorn Leisure, but not at the Apollo. However I was called in once, to help out at a Rod Stewart concert, I ended up rolling the footballs to him from the side wing, which he kicked into the audience. I also played a football game, it was Unicorn Leisure (Head Office) vs the venue where I worked. Frank didn't play, but Big Max (Max Langdon, Frank's partner) played, as did Joe Linwood the accountant. Joe eventually took over Unicorn Leisure. These were great days in the mid 70s, working for Unicorn Leisure.
Loved this Band...Saw first time at the Sacramento Jazz Festival years ago..came across my "tie" and had to hear them again...
Jockey Wilson hometown
shiteholeeeeeeee
Not as big a shitehole as yer maws hoose the last time I was in it tho
kirkcaldy used to be a good town for a visit nows its a shithole and a dive highstreets deed and aw full of homeless folk wantin money shops shutting down cause the council are greedy bass and no good shops now
Wow!! Really good to know it has a new life somewhere else. It was always a forlorn building as i was growing up. Amazing to see inside. I remember the 'Traxx' graffiti in the 1980s for a local band related to The Skids.
ffgggggggttt
chnvvbbhj
No mention of the Quo who were voted the best act ever to play there.
Quo Live! (recorded there in '76) is a classic album. Think they also played there the most times of all the acts who graced it's seriously high stage.
@@DCHurlford1 they have also played Glasgow more times than any other major act. They should have a statue in George Square !!!!
My husband is from Dunfermline as is all his family and they all pronounce Duloch as “Dullick”
It's Duloch "pronounced Dewloch" cracks me up when people say Dulloch. Who wants to stay in a "Dull" place?
I recognise the production manager, John Stewart, the Plant Director Colin Whitlock, Bob Jacob and Alan ??
Would that be Alan Bennet?
Flats are just a quick fix and they look horrible I hate them ,
I used to live in Carnegie Street and remember going to the opera house and Canmore primary school which was next door.
Theses flats look terrible
I was born in Kirkcaldy and grew up there in the 80’s. Hardly recognise it now driving through
I come from kirkcaldy and these are some great memories.
Je garde un souvenir triste de Kirkcaldy. en juillet 1979, la ville était complétement sinistrée: commerces fermés, maisons abandonnées. Cela soulevait le coeur. Puisse-t-elle resplendir en 2020.
Two of my 3 schools have now disappeared: Commercial (down the lane) and the High School. Only Pittencrieff is still there.
Has the high school gone now? My old primary school I'm sure was called pitreavie primary, in this or mebbes part 1 it's pitcorthie primary. It's still in the pitcorthie housing estate. I was at the high school 1st year and a bit of 2nd year. My old man was in the RAF at pitreavie castle, down the pit. We lived there 88 to 91, all them old houses are gone now apparently!
@@keithpringle3940 The High School was knocked down a few years ago and the new one is now at the other side of the former playing fields next to the railway line.
@@williamgeorgefraser Jesus!! I mind some of it was reasonably new, well for the early 90s anyway!! The main building must of been ancient though, I thought it would've been listed considering the age of it?? I would hardly recognise the place now!! Cheers!!
@@keithpringle3940 I remember being told that my granddad worked on the original building (and fell off). I think the main building must have been built during the 1930s as the New Wing was in place when I arrived in 1964. The original huts,1,2,3, built of concrete were also there as well as the double wooden huts 4/5 and 6/7.
@@williamgeorgefraser From what I mind, there was the main building and I think j block which was joined into the main building by an enclosed walkway type bridge. Then there was a few huts that had the music rooms and changing rooms I think? J block had the maths, English, big art room and home ec stuff like that in it. The main building had all the language rooms, history, geography and probably more that I can't remember in it, mebbes the craft and design workshops too?? The main building had some fancy woodwork, doors etc and the stonework must've been worth a fortune, it was an impressive building!! I would've thought it could've been turned into expensive flats or something like that?? So did the old primary school get knocked down too? It was just along the road a wee bit. My pals old man had the macaris ice cream shop at the crossroads with the traffic lights, if you took a left at them it would take you up to brucefield and the high school!!
Pete Agnew lived opposite me in Alexandra St when he was in the Shadettes.
I was just going through a box of my dad's old books in my basement here in Toronto, Canada when I came across a science fiction book from 1954 about flying saucers. There was an address written inside the book on the first blank page that read '41 Napier St, Kirkcaldy' by the owner I presume. Probably my grandmother bought it at a book sale for my dad here when she visited Scotland in 1971. My grandmother was born in Dysart, Fife, but moved to Toronto, Canada in the 1920's.
My father was born on Kirkcaldy... we moved to Australia in 1964
I’m related to Ronnie Coyle
Gregory's Girl (still looking good). My brother attended the venue in the early 1980's (AC/DC and ZZ Top). He was on the famous bouncing balcony. The place was world renowned for the stunning atmosphere created by the sell out crowds.
Hi..Gordon Ellis...would that be the same one that went to fair isle primary? ?
Was wondering the same thing ,if it is hi cousin.
Very interesting!

Good video
What a wonderful video thank you for sharing, I was just thinking about him and I googled his name and came across this. I met Ronnie when I worked as a field sales rep for Scottish Power. Ronnie ran a direct sales company called Macoy Marketing Solutions. I started my sales career in 2001 and I'm still doing it now in 2018. In all that time I have never met anyone as kind and compassionate as Ronnie Coyle in this industry. In truth, he was far too kind a man for the sales industry. Gone far too soon.

What’s with the interrupt at 4:23?
Another great video from Talisman Films. I never was in the Apollo as I much preferred the Kinema Ballroom in Dunfermline but a very interesting video. Well done to all that took part in the making of this film.
Oh god those fucking houses 😖😖😖
Great video and strongly recommend that you buy the full documentary. As well as the entertainers highlighted some top British performers played at the Dunfermline Opera House. They include Charlie Chaplin, Bud Flanagan, Chesney Allan, Lily Morris, Marie Kendall and the Fred Karno company of comedians.
Back when the town had character sadly now ruined by numpties on fife council
least we have wayne ross

Most enjoyable snippet of a well produced video. Well done to Talisman Films and well worth buying the full programme.

I love everything you guys do. It's great how you keep the memories alive.
where can I get the DVD?

Eeeeboy. Just bought myself a copy. We moved here 2 years ago and I love the town. Probably it will never reach the peak of the '70-'80 again and the high street will never see as much foot traffic, but still a beautiful town. Great parks, good promenade, good walks.
