Getting Control of Watercolor for Extreme Detail Part Two
Hey, this isn't painting!
Haha! Yeah, I just wanted to post these here for people to enjoy.
Well Steven that was the best gradient sky I ever seen, BETTER than real sky in nature it self !!! Please don’t get me wrong but I still don’t get it why did you just had to make those clouds, they were not existed in the photo in first place anyway !
I appreciate this is a Very Good Watercolour technique with great skill, but for me, the only pleasure would be the hard work painting the picture, otherwise for visual pleasure you may as well take photo.
Wow, thanks so much for taking the time to insult my painting! This is why I'm not making instructional videos anymore. Please go away and irritate some other person as they try to do something helpful.
thanks for your tips, I wanna try paint the same photo with you videos and your technique
You're welcome! I hope you enjoy trying some new techniques!
Don't pay attention to the thumbs down, Steve! You can't please everyone.
@@SteviePaints Thank you!
Your detail is amazing. Did you draw from scratch or did you use some sort of transfer?
I thought I recognized your voice from the Messed Up Church. I’m thrilled to find out you also are an artist. Thanks for all the wonderful watercolor tips you’ve provided and for the truth about the messed up church. I love both your channels. ❤😊
Thanks so much!!
Why can't we soak the paper and then tape it with acid free tape and the put heavy weights on overnight? Will it dry properky?
What were the dimensions of this painting? It gives the impression of being quite large until you put the pencil in there.
I'm new to the channel & am a massive fan.....goes without saying that your work is incredible! I love photorealism & what you do is wonderful......I'm also a natural skeptic tho' & I'm getting triggered massively!! I'm looking back thru' all your past videos to see HOW you actually do what you do & well, I've only watched 4 or 5 so far & am yet to find one that shows any actual paint being applied!! I'll update you Steve!
Would be nice to see your face
You are amazing in your detail. Wow❤
Hello Steve, I’ve been a watercolor painter for more than 20 years so I’m not a beginner. I stretch my Arches watercolor paper in the same way you do with staples. But suddenly I’m having a bizarre stretching problem that I haven’t been able to solve. I’m hoping you can come up with some ideas to help. Suddenly, the staples that are used to attach my paper to my gatorboard are pulling out as the paper dries. All of them are clearly being pulled out by the forces caused by the paper drying. My original thought was that my gatorboard was getting old and maybe it had too many holes in it. So, I bought a new board, but the problem persisted. Eventually I tried a different stapler, different staples, different brand paper, shorter and longer soaking times, but nothing has helped. I don’t know what’s going on. I’ve been using this method successfully for many years now. Do you have any ideas what might be causing my staples to pull out? Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Gary Shollenberger
Have you contacted Arches? I heard there was a change in the way they make their paper and people are not happy with it.
I LOVE this! It doesn't look like a painting it looks like a photograph, until you get that super up close shot! Thank you. I came from F4F, where you and Chris are talking about maybe having a channel together to show beauty -- I would love to see something like that, and some of us watch you guys so much we would appreciate this! So glad you made this video. Subbed. Fantastic and beautiful scene you caught.
Thank you very much!!
I'm revisiting your great video stream Steven. Never ceases to amaze me. I'm sure you also know that the Washout Tape is sold on Blick now as well. I think its like a buck less than Jerry's. I wanted to ask what surface you enjoy the most. 140 or 300pd CP. I typically use Fabriano Artistico 300pd CP, but maybe a 140 CP might allow for more precise edges? Thanks again for sharing what you have...and have a Blessed day! Dave
Hi Dave, Thanks for visiting! I have been using Arches hot press paper on a (wide) roll for a million years; I've got an older video on here where I talk about it. It's a little thicker than 140 lbs; it's actually 156 lbs and I really like it. But you can only get it in a roll. That's just me; keep using whatever you're using if it works for you. Hope you have a Blessed day, too!
@@StevenkozarOh! That’s very interesting! Makes sense though! I’ll definitely give this surface a shot…esp with this type of realism which I enjoy from time to time. Thanks so much for your reply Steven, I know you must be quite busy.
Did the book you mention ever get published Steve and if so can you let us know the details. Thanks
I'm really sorry, but nothing ever came of that book. All of that work seems to have gone to waste!
@@Stevenkozar I am really sorry to hear that Steve as your TH-cam lessons have been a real inspiration and have prompted me put the oils and acrylics to one side and bring out the watercolours. Unfortunately your lessons and demonstrations appear to have ended a few years ago and I am wondering if they have been continued elsewhere or is there maybe some other method by which I can learn more about your fantastic work?
My initial question after seeing some of your videos is how you manage to work so slowly and get such even washes without things drying out too much and getting runbacks, etc… And how can you work with so many layers without the integrity of the paper failing?
This is really nice indeed. I am familiar with this diner and street. Amazing work.
i couldn't tell they were paintings on the website
incredible.
Прекрасная работа. Прекрасный пейзаж. Спасибо !
Excellent Steve and an enlightening 'tour' of the painting. Very well described subtleties of the technical aspects.
Thank you very much- your videos are very necessary- because I wanted to know the writing process. I have never seen such a detailed one anywhere else. lesson. thank you for your hard work. I've been watching it for the third day in a row.
Thank you very much- for your work- to show us the technique in detail. drawing.
Спасибо за ваше решение и щедрость поделиться с нами техникой реалистичной акварели.
I admire "Photo Realism" as an applied art form. And it requires talent and technique. Yet, as an artist, I do not understand why not just take a photo and frame it?
Just found you .. a simple question.. I havenever heard The term "Watercolour Washout Tape" before. What is that? I Can se you using a transparent sellotape- like tape.. but What males it a Watercolour washout tape" ?
Very impressive. I was inspired to go ahead and sign on to take lessons from Anna Mason, she teaches extremely realistic watercolor painting techniques. I believe similar to yours. Her website is fabulous. And I am just a student there and not affiliated with her!
Your paintings are great! Thanks. Thumbs up. Subscribed.
Steven, What projector are you using in this video to project the image? Thanks.
Awesome work. You must have the patience of a saint and a very steady hand. Love your work.
Impressive! This amount of detail is not that easy to achieve with watercolors, but above all else, the way you manage to get the values so on point! I couldn't even tell this was watercolor.

Steve what happened? We haven't had a new video in 2 years.
Taking things to the extreme...breaking boundaries. Love it! I don't have it in me - but I appreciate it.
Beautiful work!
I love detail. The mathematical side of my brain
You doing okay? Noticed that you haven't posted in a long time. Miss you and your work. 😢
Thank you for your comment and concern-that's very kind of you. I'm doing fine! I've been involved with other projects and haven't been able to add to this channel for a few years, but I hope to add more videos in the future.
@@Stevenkozar oh good! Excited to see you back when you can. I'm new to watercolor and have found your videos incredibly helpful. No one does watercolor like you! Super appreciate you sharing what you have. Hopefully you'll be back soon.... ❤️
HEY STEVE!- THESE ARE GREAT!!👍
Lefties rule 👍🏻
I continue to be amazed at your attention to detail. Your amazing eyesight that allows you to see this level of detail has been put to great use.
Excellent, helpful, and inspiring! Thank you for sharing yourself and your experience and insight. Those people who “make the rules”, bless them, some people are not comfortable without rules so they offer a service of sorts. I appreciate that you offer your observations as specific to you, and many people can learn from those offerings what suits or resonates with them. Also what does not. I admire your standards and tenacity, and yes, you do have a bit of the engineer in you. Interesting combo, art and engineering! ❤
thank you for sharing your "magic" with us :) i love your style and fantastic amount of details.
Honestly I've learned so much here it's crazy
I'm fascinated by the level of detail you have achieved with watercolor. I'm a novice at best compared to you, but I strive to learn and appreciate your efforts to share.
Thanks, Bill!
I had a similar learning curve with fine woodworking. I only wanted to make high quality traditional furniture all made with hand tools. Very few people understood the value - they could go to to a mega furniture outlet and buy some shinny particle board for a fraction of the cost. The raw materials that I was using cost far more than their shinny junk. All craft businesses are tough to make a living at.
Ultra-realistic painting. It must take many weeks to complete a piece like this. Your skills are amazing.
Steven, that's absolutely fantastic! 🖌🖌🖌
One question: Is Water Color the same as Aquarell Color?
Yes, I believe so.
