There is a style of horror I think of as "American". You may or may not agree, and don't ask me to quantify what that is, unless you have a few hours. But when you see it, you sort of know. So a foreign take on the genre is always a welcome change.

The crazy thing about Transformers apparently being bad (I haven't watched them) is they aren't even just based on a toy alone. There's a ton of lore in terms of television, comics, and older movies they could have pulled from. There are several generations of beloved cartoons with stories that people love.

Love M. Night but Split and Glass are super fringe horror films. Id barely even count them. Don't sleep on James Wan's deep filmography. I would also throw Robert Eggers (The VVitch) and Ari Aster (Hereditary, Midsommar) up there if Friedkin is making the cut. Honestly though, how is Craven not #1? The man created Freddy Kruger and Ghostface. Two literal horror icons. If not him, how is it not Carpenter? The man created two perfect horror films IMO with Halloween (5/5) and The Thing (5/5). The Fog isn't too shabby either.
@@Polarke27 lol its funny you mentioned Craven. We did a video about a year ago on who was the best Horror Director and Craven was at the top of my list. We also mention Eggars and Aster as well, big fan of both. Can't wait for Nosferatu. As for Wan i used to be a big fan but he left behind qualify story telling for the glitz and glamor of Hollywood long ago.
That isnt how it plays out in the books. I'm pretty sure Halaena is made to choose and she chooses her youngest son Maelor. (who isn't born yet in the show) She chooses him in the hopes that he's to young to understand whats happening. Blood and cheese tell the boy "you're momma wants you dead" and then kill Jaeharrys anyway.
These books are next level and that's why i love them. Need to get back to reading them and catch up!

why does it feel like the creators hate star wars what’s so bad about it
It's not Star wars as a whole but the Disney arm has stripped away any integrity left by putting personal agendas above story telling. The ONLY goal should be to tell the best story possible. Other issues include terrible fight choreography, stale exposition filled dialog, little to no ploy advancement etc... I mean there is a literal space fire in the first 15 min. Its pretty unwatchable as a whole. Didn't the star straight up say she hates star wars fans too?

Nope, not an Alien3 fan. Partially that they killed off Newt and Hicks. It literally cancels out the emotion and happy ending of Aliens. And yea it was definitely a cash grab
I am still holding out hope that they make that movie happen... I saw some gnarly concept art when they were in pre-production for Romulus that definitely got me excited for a couple minutes.
I think the movie is something you shouldn’t watch on acid but it’s closer to psychological thriller than horror

Good assessment. What bothered me was they "subverted my expectations" a bit too much. If you had never seen an Alien movie, you would wonder what he hell you were watching. And hey! Don't knock Alien:Resurrection. Yeah, it was basically Buffy In Space, but dang it, it was ENTERTAINING. And the horror elements were truly disturbing.

The movie as a whole is a bit of a let down but I really love the ending with the humanoid xenomorph getting sucked out of the hole in the window... Such a weird and entertaining scene! Are you looking forward to Romulus or not? I am, but I've tempered the hell out of my expectations.

I'm very confident Owen is meant to be transgender. And the plot is a metaphor for "him" trying to process "his" feelings of gender and who "he" really is. It's hinted at more with the flashbacks of Owen and Maddie with Owen in a dress (the flashbacks are intercut with the scene at the bar where Maddie explains it to Owen). The metaphor of Owen actually being Isabelle, stuck underground in the world of the TV show slowly suffocating to death, is meant to show how suffocating it can be ro deny your true self. Owen's breathing issues get worse, "his" workplace at the end has so much Pink Opaque themed stuff, it's a metaphor of how "he" can no longer deny it and has a mental breakdown. Owen apologizes, doing the one thing Maddie said not to do when they first met. "And then it just ends". Just like the show. We're left to wonder what Owen does next, and I choose to believe "he" does finally accept herself. As the chalk said: "there is still time". At least that's my interpretation.
You spent some serious thought on this and its pretty impressive. It makes me want to go back and rewatch to see how much more I missed. I love the analysis and look forward to hearing more in the future!
