American Psycho was intended as a commentary on capitalist materialism and how it turns seemingly average people into emotionless monsters. The character of Patrick Bateman is meant to represent the zenith of this societal problem. He is not a role model. He's an example of what not to become. However, brainrot meme culture would have you thinking otherwise. They show the character working out and being suave, but they don't show the horrific torture and murder that makes the "American Psycho" what he is.

The aspirations of guys who don't "get the joke" about American Psycho tend to not think much on the character more powerful than Patrick, and that's the realtor. While Patrick is barely staying in control of himself at Paul Allen's apartment, the realtor susses him out for what he is and doesn't flinch. She probably took one look at the mess following the axe-murder and instead of lingering on the fact that someone was slaughtered, she immediately thought, "if other people see this, it will lower the property value". She's very likely never killed anyone, but she doesn't have to. She's in control. Which is another unsettling aspect of this setting. It's very possible that Patrick is getting away with his crimes not because people don't notice, but because they don't care. The city has countless monsters.

5:05 A citicism i have here is that travis doesn't see women as actors for him to get off to. When he's in the theater, we never he him masturbate, or even appear arroused. He appears uncomfortable or tired. At the start of the movie, we also learn that hes only going to them to try and help himself fall asleep (the guy who hires him to drive taxis tells him thats what porn theaters are for) And there aren't really any instances of travis being explicitly mysigynistic. Rather, he's just generally misanthropic. It also wouldn't make much sense to say that's how he sees women, considering he tells Iris that being pimped out is no life for anyone and that she should be in school. Doesn't really sound like the ramblings of a man who sees women as sex objects.

Love this analysis. I know it's incredibly corny to say, but having children really is the greatest adventure in life. Before I became a father, I was very frustrated at society. I still am but I have a lot of perspective now. Having kids is the best thing you can do with your life. It's way way more masculine than bar fighting

Loved this movie. My wife and I actually met on DeviantArt (cringe, yeah?) and it was our love of art and drawing that initially drew us together (we're about to celebrate our 13th anniversary soon). So this film really hit us in the feels because we both gave up drawing for one reason or another (such is life and work), so we could really relate to both Fujino (who initially wanted to give up art because she feels she's not good enough) and Kyomoto (who initially wanted to shut herself off from the world but always wanted to push herself to be better at drawing). The "alternate elseworld parallel" version of Kyomoto who inadvertently sent the manga strip to future/older Fujino, had shades of the Gwenyth Paltrow movie "Sliding Doors" (Fujimoto being a big film buff), but I'm glad that they didn't lean into the supernatural element very hard at all. The ending is bittersweet but more realistic.
