I love and appreciate your story! My dear friend Delaina Wimpee sent this to me. Recently, my strong, healthy son fell into a septic coma, and they had to amputate both legs above the knee. He is just beginning his rehab journey. He served in Afghanistan in 2009-2010. This is surely an inspiration!

On a surfski we do a brace similar to what you do around the five minute mark. To ensure a relaxed brace, I encourage paddlers to rest the paddle shaft against the knee, take the top hand off of the paddle and give a friendly hat-tip to the world, or inspect your manicure. NEVER DEATH-GRIPS

I think the novice perspective helps a lot. Sometimes experts forget to mention things that seem obvious to them.
