The late Mik Kilgore (RIP) was a freshmen but had a dominating performance with 33 points and 5 assists, including 7 3-pointers. West Virginia was ranked #11 and had the longest winning streak in the country at 22 games in a row. Temple had a 24 game home winning streak.

On Senior night #1 in the nation Temple tried to complete an undefeated season at home. Ramon Rivas controlled the boards with 15 rebounds. Super freshmen Mark Macon had 17 pts. Mike Vreeswyk chipped in with 21. Temple and West Virginia had a great rivalry in the late 80s.

In another Philadelphia Big 5 clash Temple found themselves down most of the game, including being down 9 with 6 minutes, and down 5 with 3 minutes. Tim Legler started on fire scoring the first 13 points for LaSalle. Mike Vreeswyk was 0-11 until finally hitting 3 shots in a row in the last 3 minutes to help pull out the win for the Nationally ranked Owls.

In a typical Big5 battle the game was hotly contested and close throughout. With the win Temple wins the Big5 City title outright for the first time in 28 years. Tim Perry had 17 pts, 17 rebs. Nate Blackwell was unstoppable with 24 pts. Mike Vreeswyk had a double/doubt with 12 and 10. Lots of familiar names in this game. Chaney vs Boyle.

Always entertaining John Chaney would get together each Christmas Eve with Mike Kern and Dick Jerardi on a regional TV sports talk show (Comcast Daily News Live) and talk about a wide range of topics. In 2004 it was the 8th straight year and it would go on for many more after this. You will smile, laugh, maybe cry, and get mad. John Chaney is a national treasure.

Crushing defeat for 2 seed Temple by Dale Brown's #10 LSU. This was the year after LSU's run to the Final Four. Sophomore Mike Vreeswyk had 26 pts, 8 rbs.
