Vobster Soup - 14 Dec 24
A short sampler dive in Vobster following the silt-out. We descend together, lose each other by 6 metres and re-surface. Descend again to the 6 metre platform and decide to call it. To illustrate the vis in the shallows in good sunshine I video along the side of the Moon Pool to the exit ramp.

Mist On The Water, And The Peveril Pride
มุมมอง 6621 วันที่ผ่านมา
A biting cold day at Vobster, 4C, mist on the water and snow in the sky. Luckily warmer in the water! We take the line from the Wheel House to the ex-Caravan and then the Peveril. Swimming back we find siltoclines at about 20 metres; spooky but otherwise mostly harmless. Challenge is to stay warm out of the water!
We're Not Losing Anyone Today!
มุมมอง 106หลายเดือนก่อน
Phil comes diving with us for the first time in a long while. We keep it easy, one hour, nothing over 25 metres, and concentrate on monitoring buddies. Our bubble check platform has been owned by a giant perch, 18 inches? It's a dull day and vis is poor. But everybody stays dry, nobody gets (too) cold and we stay nicely together, pursued by the usual curious fish. Music: At The Shore - The Dark...
Cold Dark And Very Silty, Again!
มุมมอง 505หลายเดือนก่อน
A second visit to the Vobster pit, this time determined to film it and navigate to the Caravan, just to prove the first time on the Deco course wasn't a fluke. Still lives up to its name and that wall that I never knew was right next to it is still 30 feet high! Second dive I expected some deco so took the 50% with me. It knocked 8 minutes off my stop, but not John's, but at least we could watc...
Cold Dark And Very Silty, Caravan And The Poppy
มุมมอง 102หลายเดือนก่อน
We visit Cold Dark and Very Silty, and it was. No point in turning the camera on! The water is high at the moment so John manages 35m. Over to the Ael-y-Bryn, which was a little better. The Caravan really is now just a pile of junk but the Poppy is still the Poppy. The tunnel was nice and clear and we are surrounded by shoals of Perch for a few minutes of deco. Diving the old OThree MSF500 but ...
Nice To Do Just A Fun Vobster Dive Again

TDI Adv Nirox and Deco Procedures has finished and it is great just to have a easy day diving. There are loads of perch following us, except around the Ael-y-Bryn boat at 33 metres where even the fish struggle with the vis. But cruising around and zenning out in side mount feels just so good. What those metal frogs are at the end, I have no idea, but they were entertaining during my now fully l...
Vobster Green

Due to my minor directional error we take an hour and a half circuit of the lake, probably about a kilometre, in some of Englands finest green. Above water everything is going brown in the 30 degree heat; not down here! At least we both have 3 cylinders and can take it easy gliding over the meadows. Note the crayfish at the end, caught with his take-away clam lunch! Music: Comfortable Mystery 2...
Amazing Colours - St Lucia Reefs 2024
มุมมอง 834 หลายเดือนก่อน
A compilation of dives on Rosemond's Trench, Ansecochon, Coral Gardens, Grand Key, Superman's Flight and Pinnacles. Some damage from Hurrican Beryl but the animals are unfazed and the torch really brings out the colours. And I've never seen so many morays! Many thanks to The BodyHoliday for some brilliantly led dives.
Shore Dives St Lucia 2024 - Fish Unfazed By Hurricane Beryl
มุมมอง 1865 หลายเดือนก่อน
Shore dives from The Bodyholiday, before and after Hurricane Beryl, July 2024. The floating deck was partially torn awayfrom its anchor chains and a storm drain pipe ended up 50 yards from the beach but the fish were just as plentiful once the seas had calmed. This shallow reef is just so rich in life. Music: Easy Lemon 60 Second by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution...
St Lucia Wrecks, The Lesleen Is Still There, Just!

Wrecks of the freighters Lesleen M and the Vicky B, sunk a few years ago as it's replacement. I elected not to follow the group inside the Lesleen engine room because a) I've done it before, b) I wasn't sure of rest of the group and c) it would be just my luck if it picked that day to collapse; I'd like to see if it has survived Hurricane Beryl that passed through a few days later. I see that around my area it is a typical sign a student went through. Been guilty of silt clouds myself. 😊

That’s at 1 ATM / BAR, imagine at 2 BAR or 3 BAR etc
@@peterchilds7176 yes, unfortunately the regulator will try to help you by continuing to maintain the intermediate pressure at 10 Bar above ambient. So it will be just as bad at depth.
I get so claustrophobic breathing underwater, it's the weirdest feeling. Kudos to you!
I think it did feel odd at first. But I started in the shallow end of a pool where you could just stand up if you needed, and went from there. Very soon I hardly thought about it. Now it’s just like being weightless and flying slowly through this beautiful world. Takes lots of training but can be so worth it😊
@@timgosling6189 I’ll try again. My first time was 30+ ft in the ocean and I eventually shot up to the surface.
@@youMatterItDoesGetBetter That's definitely not good. Step-by-step training should gradually expand your skills and comfort zone. And in fact good divers never stop learning. I hope you come to love the sport as much as I do.

Hi there nice video!! Is it worth buying one? What is your opinion on the Luna-X
It’s well made, easy to use, works as a video light and for signalling and has good battery life. Expensive at full price but I bought it at just over half RRP. I’m enjoying it.
Schöner Tauchplatz gefällt mir gut 👍
Ich auch!

I like mine! Great torches.
Cool Dive and some amazing vidoe!
I hold my breath while watching 😂😂
Scary 😮
hahahahah I love this for you! Everyone needs a break from quarries :)
Never seen that long hose route like you have it. Are you no worried it could get caught and pulled out. Does the turret revolve OK when donating?
It was taught as an option on the TDI SM course. No, there is no additional snag hazard compared to the round-the-neck option and donation works exactly the same way regarding the turret, but with no need to unwind the hose from your neck. It also declutters the chest area. So yes, I like it a lot.

A set of statues. Where they came from, no one knows...
Sadly I cant dive my Stealth right now... Enjoy it guys I'm so jealous watching this 🥲
Awesome bit of kit. Hope you're back diving yours soon.
In reverse
The noise with original exhaust system is a little bit boring, buy a Secret Weapon Exhaust for your F430!!! And unleash the beast F1 roar!
It's fine for me, but it does get a bit lost out on track. Luckily where I live there are plenty of stone walls and tunnels!
I’m looking for my first torch and this shows how good the colour and its temp is at depth! Very nice, thanks!
This was great! Thank you! I miss St Lucia.
Is this typical vis for VQ? Not managed to get there yet..
It varies a lot. Over Winter it can be up to 10m (eg this video from early-Feb: th-cam.com/video/K6_5AHqfrCo/w-d-xo.html). But the mussels have now just spawned and in the shallower areas it's gone down to 5m or less. In Summer there can be algae blooming which knocks the vis everywhere (eg th-cam.com/video/AR8EKInBylo/w-d-xo.html) but generally it's around the 6 to 8m. If you click on my channel you should find videos of a variety of conditions. For a tour round most of the sights you might like this one: th-cam.com/video/yJ_OCxpJrkg/w-d-xo.html. I'd recommend Vobster as it's friendly, very well run, easy to get gas fills, useful shop, kitting up close to the water etc and has a good atmosphere. I personally think a dry suit is essential as although the surface temp can be in the high teens in Summer it is always aound 6 to 7C at 20m and below. At the moment it's 7C everywhere! Hope this helps.
@@timgosling6189 Thanks. I'm a year-round Stoney regular, so used to UK poor vis quarry diving... :) Will have time make the trip down to VQ sometime.
Very nice! Why s there an X on each of those cylinders?
It's just tape to protect the paint on the base when I'm standing them upright 🙂
@@timgosling6189 ok thanks. Mine are not painted so that would not have occurred to me. Take care.
Got to love vobster mate. Great video.😍👌
Awesome torches
thanks for sharing! go sidemount!!! :)
nice man for first try.. find a good instructor or read online or help from ppl to fix some issues!!
Lots of things to fix! I've just done the SDI/TDI Side Mount course with a great instructor and the rigging and trim are all so much better now. I didn't believe it would be possible to stay in trim with a steel cylinder swung to the front, but it is! No substitute for personal advice from someone who knows what they're doing.
@@timgosling6189 Well very good news then..nice to see you keep sm diving.well depends the sylinder but yeah it is possible!! i hope you upload a vid soon!!

Welcome to the sidemount world! A bit off topic but can I ask which lenses you're using in your dive mask? I've started needing some to read my computer but can't find ones that stay on.
it's a Tusa Ceos mask with Tusa prescription lenses, which you can swap out yourself pretty easily. The glass comes with the bifocal lens already attached. Link here: www.mikesdivestore.com/collections/tusa/products/tusa-bi-focal-prescription-lenses-for-dive-and-snorkel-masks?variant=964920997#foo&gid=1&pid= Hope this helps.
Hello, I came across your videos whilst searching for UW footage with the Apeks Luna primary torch-a definite buy for me. I wanted to suggest that you look into Steve Martin’s online course for sidemount as well as backmount diving (he’s also on TH-cam). He has some excellent videos on technique. All the best.
Yes I've seen his channel and it's excellent. I was very impressed with how balanced sidemount felt right from the start and I look forward to beginning actual training shortly.
it gets easier :) keep it up!

Thanks for the video and information. I have the Luna mini and love it. Looking at this torch as a primary for night diving
Glad you found it useful. I don't know if you saw it but I put a recent night dive with the Luna in the link. Like the Mini, the ability to dial it down to 330 lumens at night was just as useful as being able to go up to 2000.
I'll check it out thanks
Is it worth the price in your opinion. Or should someone go with a competitor like big blue for almost half the price
Of the alternatives, I'd say the OrcaTorch D630 and BigBlue TL2600P came out next best for me. The Orca is more powerful and well regarded but I wanted to get away from the cannister and lead and I prefered the Apeks soft Goodman handle. The BigBlue looks like a good product, and has a tighter beam and a bit more power than the Apeks but I preferred the sealed-for-life idea and not having to open it up to recharge, as you need to for the Orca and BigBlue. The Apeks handle design also looked more secure without getting in the way and I had no problem manipulating the valves on my twinset behind my head with it still on the hand. Overall the performance spec and design of the Apeks Luna was a better fit for me and I know their gear is tough but if there is a problem they sort it without argument. DeepBlue I personally just don't know much about. Hope this helps.
@@timgosling6189 Its also British made so that depends if its worth the premium. I would buy this if it was slightly cheaper. Bit hard for me to justify.
Sorry this isn't connected with your video, but did you have a relative shot down flying a spitfire from Malta with 229 squadron in the summer of 1943?. His name was Cyril Gosling. I only ask because I saw your comment on a video "Spitfire pilot dives into sea to rescue BF109 pilot.
There are a lot of us Goslings with Service backgrounds but although my father was in the RAF in WWII I'm afraid Cyril was not a relative.
@@timgosling6189 Thank you for getting back to me , I only ask as my late Grandfather was No2 to Flt Lt Gosling when he was shot down.
Great to see Vobster reopened. Pretty decent temps for Vobster
What is that at the 2:00 mark?
It's a slipper lobster. Related to the more common spiny lobsters in the video but the front antennae have morphed into flat plates.
