    The great people in Leinster house have always been and still are ashamed of the general Irish population. That’s why they built airports to get millions of them out and quickly.

    Wow. This was before my time but a fantastic preservation of Galway in the 90s. It feels quite different now, for both good and bad. It seems to me that characters such as depicted here would find it harder to survive in Galway nowadays. We don't have such an interesting assortment of buskers either. Not as much character in the city.

    Oh my goodness, thank you so much for this (sad but strong ) beauty ❤ After the Berlin Wall came down, Galway was my first love; not west- germany…. I was 21 and started my very first days of busking in the shopping street. But first, I had to get brave enough for this with a few pint’s of lager and beautiful musicians support in the cozy walls of Monroe’s pup…. Sleeping on a old forgotten fishing trawler near Spanish Arc….and met a real Galway gilrl …..A few faces I just recognize in this video….after thirty years now….😢 good bless you and all Irish souls ✨🙏🍺🧹 lake of constance / germany

    Looking for a Djembe player called Andy Clarke from Belfast. He played Djembe drum in Galway in the 90’s . He helped me get a room and gave me money when I was stone broke. I would like to repay his kindness if anyone knows where he is now. Thank you! 🙏

    I watched this during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown, 2020. As an African when I came to Galway in 2002 I was kind of stranded because I arrived at night and I missed meeting my girlfriend, the next thing was to go in Shop Street and was amazed to see so many buskers with different kinds of music , some juggling etc. For a while I was at peace until it became so late and I didn't know where to go. Fortunately I talked to a guitarist just finished busking and he said "now worries you are going where I'm going". The next thing I'm in a Homelessness home called "Fairgreen". This is where I met or saw some of the men in this video, some where sleeping outside with a given mattress and a blanket because I was told they were bared because of a drinking. Fortunately I was given food and a place to sleep and in the morning I was assisted to meet my girlfriend and sort myself out. Everything went on well and got myself sorted. To cut the long story short I stayed and became resident in Galway and as a musician/saxophonist I would busk and make a lot of money. I worked for a hostel "Keenlay House"??? but I would always go out and volunteer at Fairgreen, they were so helpful but very strict and that's where I would meet and talk to the kind of notorious old man Tom or Tommy who's appearing a lot on this video...he was kind but always drunk. Tourists who come from other EU countries would come to the Keenlay Hostel and some of them would be musicians who had no money to pay fro a couple of nights and I would advise them to go out to Shop Street and busk...and most of them succeeded. Lastly, I saw my friend in this video, Piet Bog, who I later joined his band "Inflatable Side Show" which was popular in Galway at the time, and towards the end of the video I see an old well-dress man(1:033) hugged by one of the notorious drunkards barred from Fairgreen, and that's the man who saw me busking on saxophone and said that I should consider doing a PhD in music, that encouraged me and later I went to study Jazz in Dublin and later MA in Community Music at the University of Limerick, Irish World Academy of Music and Dance. All these people made my life in Galway very interesting and vibrant, buskers or drunkards it did not matter, people are people.

    Hi everyone, I uploaded this video on behalf of Mark Kennedy in 2014. I no longer have access to this account. Unfortunately Mark has now passed. All I can say is when I knew him he was a gentleman and helped erect the famine memorial in Galway city in recent times. I am privileged to have known him regardless of what some people say. I don't know what he was like in previous year but for as long as I knew him he was kind. Mark I will see you soon. God bless.

    I knew Mark Kennedy and he was a bum, an alcoholic, a sponger, a trouble maker, a slanderer and a waster who refused to work for many years. He lived for free off state welfare and wasted his money on drink and drugs and going around whinging, complaining and backbiting. He deserted his own wife and children when they were young. He and his bums should have gone out and worked and paid their taxes like other people. Mark Kennedy and his fellow bums and winos in this video were and are a disgrace and have ruined the good name of Galway city.

    • @spudmurphy1732
      @spudmurphy1732 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      look at all the damage he did to himself, his family and friends. He should have spent more time healing them instead of mourning celia griffin. During the famine there was plenty of mark kennedy characters around who did nothing for the hungry and ill as they were too busy drinking alcohol.
