How to you CONTROL your nerves and anxiety
AFAIK in the US they say "dat-er", UK is "day-ter". I remember this mainly from Star Trek TNG in relation to the character Data. The crew were pronouncing it the standard US way ( "dat-er") as they assumed it was just a reference to him being an android but Data insisted it was his name so should be pronounced the way he chose ("day-ter").
For our MTB sport to have a strong future the coverage needs to depict what it is actually like to compete in mountain bike racing. The coverage of our sport by Warner Bros is detrimental because their geeks taking the videos and their marketing-driven fools who do the commentating fail to understand mountain biking, If you have watched the vlogs compiled by Moi Moi TV and Bernard Kerr and others, then you see cheeky fun, and wise-cracks overlying the tension and nervousness all the riders are feeling. You see the camaraderie between the riders and the tremendous respect they feel for each other. You see the experienced riders leading younger emerging riders into the massive jumps so they have a chance to gain confidence. You see riders walking the tracks together, discussing possible lines, and then riding sections to work out the best approaches. Throughout a practice week, you see riders piecing it all together, building their speed. The UCI and Warner Bros show us none of this. They totally miss what is appealing to MTB audience members. They simply don't get it.
this was a super interesting part of the convo, lot of cool tech that hopefully can be implemented more in the future.
Well said on the Gwin analogy
@@stiksandstones let’s go Stik !!! Cheers
Really enjoyed this, production was excellent, sound was spot on. I was a little concerned when you started with the 'how proud are you? question... But after that it flowed really well and you drew out very interesting, insightful and deep info from Tony. Looking forward to the next one, I subscribed.
@@crankshoptv cheers man!! Stoked you like it!
Great interview. Give yourself a pat on the back Tony, your an amazing father 🤟🤟🤟
Cheers !!! Agree fully, learnt a lot from him
Valuable episode! Ty guys
Awesome. Much appreciated
Didnt the same happen with Holly Feniak won world champs and then was never seen again
In terms of what ?
I see what they are saying… Bring back PALMER!! Ha ha ha… We do need that kind of rider to sell the sport to outside companies.
Ya know, when I think about how I like the limited riders in the finals, I think about Palmer era, even peaty….i was at those 90’s world cups where these unknowns (peaty in his black Saracen kit, Palmers first World Cup, etc) these super talents show up and break into the scene, out of nowhere. We can’t have these opportunities now.
They are encouraging piracy increasing the price to view so much
You are that biased, as am I, but the reality is most people just aren't interested. Putting the cost of watching through the roof (as has happened in Canada, UK and Ireland and will probably happen elsewhere) sure isn't going to help change that.
I'm a die hard fan. Why does warmer bros hate us so much ?
GIVE THIS MAN A FACTORY RIDE what the hell is going on when Danny Hart, still on pace, hasn't got a ride. Disgusting,he demonstrates here how dialled he is and committed he is in the other contract vid. Ffs give Danny a ride and Brayton while you're at it
Agree !! But he has a Factory ride now :)
@MovingTheNeedlePodcast erm yea :-) buzzing so much,I forsee a good season for Danny
Another great podcast Andrew. Certainly a contender for your best one yet! I hope Greg has as much success off the track as he has had on it, the guy deserves it. I'm rooting for Norco for 2025 season!
Cheers brothers! Pumped you liked it.
Unlock it Dak, you've got it and we all know. Regarding Gwin, one of the greatest ever. Thanks Needles.
Cheers !!!!
I wonder if gearbox is norco compatible, but with that low mounted shock I doubt
being relatively local to Hamsterley forest and regularly seeing Danny putting in the laps in all conditions, I can attest to his sheer professionallism and amount both he and Sophia prepares, even down to the smallest of details.
Awesome stuff. Only just got through to listening to this.
Great Interview with the GOAT🚴👍 He won in Willingen 2005 and came Back for the Wheels Of Speed Race later, great to See him live.
Cheers. Stoked you like it.
EPIC! Thanks gents, this was awesome!
Cheers !!
Been a long time since I've heard either Robin or Ty Rumbelow, 2 great guys during the late 90s over here in the UK racing that you could easily talk to 👌 Dh racing has such a high level of visual & analytical information to each race run as both rider and track evolve can be so physical and mentally stimulating but also very strenuous and tiring at the same time. Having that switch off time is so key. Another great 1 Needles 🤘
Cheers. Yes they are great dudes ! Also paved the way.
I guess I am outlier on this. Greg has had a great career but longevity for me does not really count towards one being considered the G.O.A.T.. If a rider dominates over a decade and half, then chooses to move onto other passions. Should that work against them? Do people consider Greg the G.O.A.T. because the length of his career and perhaps he is more well known. For me no one, even Greg comes close to the dominance and record that Nico Vouilloz demonstrated throughout his DH career.
Most WC wins I think fairly earns you the title but yes it is of course subjective. Look at Golf where they compare riders from different generations....
I hate the term GOAT as it is so subjective but I think staying near the top while the sport was constantly changing and so many other younger riders came and went certainly makes him one of the best ever for me.
What a brilliant conversation/interview. Thank you for sharing
Legend. Thanks man.
Wow such great stories from back in the day....just loved the DH scene in SA in the late 90's. Some of my best years racing, drinking and carrying on. And you guys so young then 😂
hahah we def both old now
You missed the question I was desperate to hear the answer of - What happened at Santa Cruz and why did you not get the send-off you deserved (compared to Peaty?) ?
Great interview Needles! Best interview with The GOAT I have heard yet. What a great way to end a career, 2 Saffas 🇿🇦 with the best beer talking about one of the greatest sports, Thank You!
Cheers. Much Much appreicated
Please check your spelling before releasing the thumbnail of the episode.
Click bait🗑💩
I raced dh for 11 years. I made it to my local pro category and got smoked. Dh racing is the best fucking sport on the planet. Nothing else holds a torch to it. From the grassroots come up programs through Jr's all the way to the WC. Best. Sport. Ever. Full stop.
Epic Well said
I saw Greg in THAT corner at Ft Bill during practice, not sure if that was the big crash of the morning, or if he just stopped, but he was well pissed off. And during finals I was at the finish area, watching the screens when the tire blew. Greg rolling past the line a few minutes later. It was such a high/low race, special for me, as it was the first big race at Ft Bill I watched as a spectator after moving to Scotland (saw BDS in '14 or '15 whilst on holiday). Ths whole Greg thing, Danny being up at the last split and then crossing the line 4th. Carlie winning, and Andie Kolb's reaction seing Charlie in the hot seat. What a race it was.
Danny has really upped his vlog game last couple years. Such a great personality
Brilliant Needles, more power to your elbow!👍
haha yes man
Flipping awesome one my brus! Such honesty from Greg. Legend!
WOW Needles that studio set up is fire..... another great interview with the GOAT....
Cheers brother
Minnaar said few times, that Arai Japan is his favourite track 😁
What track
Top stuff
Yes man
Two Saffa downhill legends!
Cheers !!!
A MASSIVE Thanx to you Andrew !!!! BEST interview yet !!!! CANNOT F'ING WAIT to see how Greg and the team do This season !!!!!
Cheers man. That means a ton.
Glad I could help!
Hero of 1199!
Well done bro, great interview!
Cheers !! Much appreciated
I said the danny hart interview was the best... sorry Andrew. You killed it with this one. Might be the GOAT interview😂
Haha Cheers man! I am honoured ! Spread the word
Id drop out of a race if it means Danny Hart gets to crush on my borrowed wheel lol
The condensed time frame is all about managing costs. The UCI is only concerned with the profit margin and that comes from just selling the finals. Has the UCI ever done anything that is truly to benefit the rider? If you can name something, please do. The UCI just views the riders as a commodity.
any euro guy going to whistler probably comes there with more spare parts/better prep than a factory athlete ? wild
This is Danny getting what he deserves. A stellar rider obviously with the points and podiums to prove it. But also an honest pro. Will be following NRD with interest and wish all the riders well. I’m 64. Ridden since leaving the British Army in 1990. My old heroes are running teams, designing bikes. Exciting times.
I’ve been following this series of Andrew-Danny interviews (probably one released in bits). Learning about the darkside of pro DH racing. Glad DH has full factory backing now either Norco. I love Danny’s own posts. He always seems so chilled despite the real serious difficulties behind the scene (complicated birth of daughter going on). Honest pro.
I ride. I’m ex-British infantry. Admin. Self-admin. It’s a big percentage of top performance. Danny’s my favourite pro currently on the circuit. I wish him well with the factory Norco team.
The other, dark side that most of us know little if anything about.
No comments? C'mon Folks!
Mud Hugger front and rear prevents wet muddy shorts and it also stops buzzing the tyre on the derrière. Mine stay on year round.
