AFAIK in the US they say "dat-er", UK is "day-ter". I remember this mainly from Star Trek TNG in relation to the character Data. The crew were pronouncing it the standard US way ( "dat-er") as they assumed it was just a reference to him being an android but Data insisted it was his name so should be pronounced the way he chose ("day-ter").

For our MTB sport to have a strong future the coverage needs to depict what it is actually like to compete in mountain bike racing. The coverage of our sport by Warner Bros is detrimental because their geeks taking the videos and their marketing-driven fools who do the commentating fail to understand mountain biking, If you have watched the vlogs compiled by Moi Moi TV and Bernard Kerr and others, then you see cheeky fun, and wise-cracks overlying the tension and nervousness all the riders are feeling. You see the camaraderie between the riders and the tremendous respect they feel for each other. You see the experienced riders leading younger emerging riders into the massive jumps so they have a chance to gain confidence. You see riders walking the tracks together, discussing possible lines, and then riding sections to work out the best approaches. Throughout a practice week, you see riders piecing it all together, building their speed. The UCI and Warner Bros show us none of this. They totally miss what is appealing to MTB audience members. They simply don't get it.

Ya know, when I think about how I like the limited riders in the finals, I think about Palmer era, even peaty….i was at those 90’s world cups where these unknowns (peaty in his black Saracen kit, Palmers first World Cup, etc) these super talents show up and break into the scene, out of nowhere. We can’t have these opportunities now.

Been a long time since I've heard either Robin or Ty Rumbelow, 2 great guys during the late 90s over here in the UK racing that you could easily talk to 👌 Dh racing has such a high level of visual & analytical information to each race run as both rider and track evolve can be so physical and mentally stimulating but also very strenuous and tiring at the same time. Having that switch off time is so key. Another great 1 Needles 🤘

I guess I am outlier on this. Greg has had a great career but longevity for me does not really count towards one being considered the G.O.A.T.. If a rider dominates over a decade and half, then chooses to move onto other passions. Should that work against them? Do people consider Greg the G.O.A.T. because the length of his career and perhaps he is more well known. For me no one, even Greg comes close to the dominance and record that Nico Vouilloz demonstrated throughout his DH career.

I saw Greg in THAT corner at Ft Bill during practice, not sure if that was the big crash of the morning, or if he just stopped, but he was well pissed off. And during finals I was at the finish area, watching the screens when the tire blew. Greg rolling past the line a few minutes later. It was such a high/low race, special for me, as it was the first big race at Ft Bill I watched as a spectator after moving to Scotland (saw BDS in '14 or '15 whilst on holiday). Ths whole Greg thing, Danny being up at the last split and then crossing the line 4th. Carlie winning, and Andie Kolb's reaction seing Charlie in the hot seat. What a race it was.

The condensed time frame is all about managing costs. The UCI is only concerned with the profit margin and that comes from just selling the finals. Has the UCI ever done anything that is truly to benefit the rider? If you can name something, please do. The UCI just views the riders as a commodity.
