How Smoking Worsens Back Pain: Watch This! 🚬
Yes! Smoking 🚬 can cause and worsen back pain! Smoking leads to a reduction in blood flow to the spinal discs thereby compromising the discs' ability to function optimally. Additionally, smoking contributes to the degeneration of spinal discs, accelerating their wear and tear over time. Consequently, individuals who smoke are more likely to experience back pain and may find it more challenging to manage effectively.

I have a patient who's currently battling with numbness and parasthesia of the before and after decompression surgery, what's the most effective ways to manage it please?
This is absolutely not true when it comes to spinal fusions in the lumbar area! I hate so much that doctors blow off people’s concern about their range of motion being affected & if there will be any loss of it. Doctors assume everyone lives a non active lifestyle or desk jobs who don’t need much so we won’t notice how much loss is taken from us. I will tell you that your entire range of motion IS affected & will keep you from bending, swaying your hips, arching or curving your back, or doing any twisting like using the bathroom or driving & looking back to check for cars to change lanes. I was fused without me knowing how bad I would be affected from my T4 down to my pelvis. I have zero range of motion & it’s my worst nightmare! It has destroyed everything in my life including my career, my marriage, & so much more. I’m considered disabled now & am homeless & broke all because of the spine fusion done to me that includes hardware being drilled into perfectly healthy vertebrae forever damaging it. I was a dancer & stunt performer & that was taken from me overnight! Doctors think I live a basic life & assumed I didn’t need to be flexible & since most people don’t notice the loss of range of motion. It makes it 1000 times worse for people like me who try to explain what I do for a living & had trained my entire life for. I tell them I can’t live or be made to where I have no movement in my entire spine at all. None of these surgeons will listen to me when I say long spine fusions do not work! No human being can live with their spine completely stiff & solid. I had to have the hardware repaired after the first break, and after that surgery more of it broke below the repair causing me to have another major spine surgery in less than 24 hours. Barely 2 years after that and my spine fusion broke again in three areas all on one side including the screw they put in my perfectly healthy pelvis. My imaging shows that my lumbar is not fusing. I keep telling the surgeons it's not fusing because it doesn't need to be fused and its healthy vertebrae that never should've had any rods or screws in it. The surgeons claim I had to have it to stabilize my spine from cancer destroying one vertebrae & to fix my scoliosis. It's BS to have an entire spine fused when only one or two levels above and below the damaged vertebrae are needed for the support required. For anyone having spine surgery look up VCR (vertebral column resection) spine surgery. Surgeons won't tell you about this procedure but it’s a technique that breaks the spine in the areas needed to straighten spine deformities for people with scoliosis. Then they put a fusion in to hold it in position. After you look up VCR surgery then look up long segment fusion versus short fusion. Long constructs of hardware break all the time because they're too long. Short fusions still perform the same as long ones but also preserves range of motion. There is proof online that with VCR and short fusions a patient can have the scoliosis corrected and still have range of motion so their quality of life is not destroyed. The surgeries have been done in other countries and the studies and data are there that have proven it works. I have been going to see every prominent spine surgeon in the country. When I ask if it can be done they never say no because they know it can be. It hasn't been done in the US yet and I have yet to find a spine surgeon with the confidence and experience to try it. This same procedure of VCR with short segment fusions will work to correct spinal deformities even if there is a vertebral or burst fracture or even a vertebrae damaged by cancer. Do not accept the loss of range of motion and stop letting surgeons perform these long spinal fusions! I urge anyone having to have spine fusion surgery to talk to their doctors about having short segment fusions instead of one long construct and don't accept it when they say no or it can't be done. It can be and it already has been proven to work. Spine surgeons in the U.S. need to jump on board with this technique because other countries are already far ahead. And clearly my long segment spinal fusion breaking more than 3 times in the last couple of years & repairing the hardware the same way every time is no longer a solution. Something else has to be done and tried!!! I don't understand why surgeons refuse to try something new instead of doing the same thing they know is going to fail and cause their patient to have the worst quality of life possible. It’s awful no one in the U.S. that I have found yet is willing to do this for me.
Hello sir, I had spinal fusion surgery in my lumbar spine 1.5 years ago. Still I feel pain in my waist, what should I do sir? I can’t run, don’t bend, not confident with my body, unable to freely move; is this normal or I should get recovered by now sir?
