Ever dreamed of sailing from country to country and exploring the bays, islands and cultures on the other side of the world. Imagine doing it during a Pandemic when people are not even allowed to readily leave their own country, or get back in! Imagine buying a boat you have never seen, on the other side of the world. These are the issues we are going to tackle on this channel. So come along on our journey as we learn the ropes with our little trailer sailer and prepare ourselves for the journey of a lifetime.

Think I found another hobby. I felt I had to do something with this footage, so here it is.

The Thorny Path or is it the Thornless Path to the Caribbean? Beating into the trade winds is never a pleasant experience but with a little planning you can make it more bearable. In this video I show you how we managed our passages to make it an as smooth a path as possible. I forgot to mention that a good book to read is The Thornless Path by Bruce VS. Paradise. Culebrita, Puerto Rico.❤
10:47 am Monday 4 November 2024. Thank you sir for sharing your knowledge, information about your sailboat to us. From Malaysia 🇲🇾. God bless you and your family Ameen
You got ripped off !
I don’t know what I would do without seeing an electrical box, your keys, and the water bottles you use for showering. It would be like someone wanting a tour of my home and me showing them where I decided to keep my pickles in the refrigerator.
Thanks for your creative and clear camera angles on the video. We have Yanmar 2017 SD-60 saildrives on our catamaran and the manual recommends an oil change every 250 hours or once a year - same as the oil change schedule on the main engines (4jh57). I use the same brand vacuum pump and it comes with enough extension tubes to place the pump on top of the engine making it comfortable to pump out all 2.8L in each saildrives. Even with using tape to seal the pump hose to the built in hose that goes to the bottom of the saildrive, it still sucks up a lot of air with the oil making it a far more tedious process that when vacuum pumping up the main engine 5.5l oil which is located on same side and about same level. But eventually all the oil comes out. It sure is much easier to change the saildrive oil on the dry which we do every 2 years. Yanmar recommends 15W40 long lasting premium oil for both the engine and the saildrive making it easier to purchase and manage.
Bought one because the price was unable to refuse. Lot of heavy work putting around 1200$ into it 1 sail was bad expecting to be 200$-400$... Trailer is a 7/10, but hay picked it up for 500$ sale get gawn fast is good. 23 foot pop top.
Great video I enjoyed viewing.
Where is the keel? Or does it not have one?
lovely boat, good down-to-earth comments. Achievement stuff. Subd
Looks great. Seem like nice down to earth people too. (Refreshing for you tube videos). I could watch you talking about used boats etc more. Thanks for the education. May I ask How much you spent on the boat fixing it up?
Thank You very much, I'm thinking of buying a TS, and am about to look at a Sonata 7, so this was a great and timely intro for me.
I see you're using SAE 90 there. I've been told that's not ideal but could be wrong on that.
Yanmar would tell you it needs changed every 15 minutes if they thought anyone would believe it
This is great thank you. For years I tried to find a book in the boating book shops that offered good places to visit with a trailer Sailer. There ain't any! This type of video could easily be made into a series for sale and give some indication of places to stop, stay with public moorings etc. Keep up the good work I'm watching and enjoying. Thanks again.
Thanks Norm. Yes its amazing that there isnt a NSW Trailer Sailer page on facebook, at least wasnt last time I looked. Other states seem to have pretty active trailer sailer pages. Glad to hear you enjoyed it.
@@SailingLaguna It's not easy being a Victorian. You're forced to look people in the eye and tell them how much better Melbourne is than Sydney, all the while knowing about the Harbour and all of the fantastic waterways surrounding Sydney, and the boating culture that goes with them. You guys are spoilt, up there! And you have done a fantastic job of capturing your spoils and sharing them with others. Well done. Thank you for the content.
@@davidbrayshaw3529 Thanks for the kind words David. Our travels have really hammered it home just how lucky we are to have such amazing waterways in this part of the world. And so many public places to access the waterfront.
He’s quite the um ah um man?
Hope you and your family have a lot of good times on that boat. You certainly put a lot of work into it. Thanks for sharing. I learned a lot from your video.
Amazing boat!!!!! Covid tax it’s definitely worth more now! I’d absolutely love one……… especially at this price
Nice boat, do you still have it? Do you have any other videos?
Thanks. Yes it was a great boat. We sold it to help fund our big adventure. Theres a few videos there that might tickle your fancy. I hope you enjoy them.
I have enjoyed your videos. I am the new owner of your old boat, great to see you sailing it, I can pick up a few tips, I am brand new to sailing. We will be enjoying some family trips like you did. :)
@@redcorvetteguyhow's the boat going nowadays?
@@penhdog2207 she sails nice, it’s our first boat so learning along the way. Haven’t had it in the water much, but soon will be doing some family adventures and over night trips
18:00 that looked like it hurt 😉 Really enjoyed all the videos. What's next?
Its great to hear that you got something out of them. Its just back to work at the moment, but my next deferred Salary year is 2026. I just need to convince Samantha to go on another adventure.

Y'all, This is better than netflix. I'm bingeing. 🌴🌴🌊🌊🤿🤿
Hi sir
Hi David. I hope you've got some more questions.
12:08 hoping for more footage of the reef like you say, leaving the go pro down, i found the no music no talking one first, but got sidetracked on the tours, loving it, thanks 🤿🤿🌊🌊🌴🌴🌴🌴
Thanks for the comment. Sorry, I dont have a lot of other footage. Its surprising just how addictive it was to watch the underwater video after spending the day snorkeling. Coral is definitely mesmerizing close up.
Thanks for the video. Why didnt you use the lower plug to get more than 1.3 liters out? There is a plug at the bottom, marked with a triangle ...
Thank you sir this was informational
Hi sir you’re amazing
Hiii sir
Very useful, thank you!
i’m your biggest fan ever
Nuh uh
Hi uncle Dave you made cool videos
Thanks for the video. Are you still sailing?
Its nice to know someone likes it. No we have sold the small and big sailboats and currently have an older half cabin boat. But who knows what the future holds for future adventures on the water.
Thanks for such a great video! We'd like to move to the area, and this video has just convinced me even more.😊
Thanks. Yep Lake Mac is such a great place to live. The lake offers so much and the Swansea channel area is just beautiful. Pack your bags, you wont regret it.
the reason i ask is becase you where staying in 1 spot an awful long time
Just snorkeling. I would dive down and see a nice spot. Leave the Gopro there and go back to the surface. It became rather addictive watching the footage back. Id like to try it again but maybe spread a little fish food around to attract a few more fish in. Hope you enjoyed it.
Yes I did it's always been my dream to go snorkeling or scuba diving in the ocean but I prob will never get the chance to sense I live no where near the ocean and I can't drive case of my disability
where you scuba diving or did you just put sound to it nice video regardless
When you need permission from your government to go sailing then you don't have a free country
U have a good sense of humor
Very helpful - just in the process of buying a Sonata 6 - needs freshen up - now I know how to do it...
Thanks for the comment. Something to look into is Alexseal Roll Additive. I dont think it was around when I painted this boat but from what I understand it removes the need to 'tip' the paint when you roll it on.
Nelson Bay, not Nelson’s Bay
Hi I have just come across your video of Melody Maker, the original owners where as you guessed roger and Shirley, they did indeed hail from Geelong, they moved up to the Lake Macquarie area in the late 80,s early 90,s they were active members of the Newcastle and Hunter Trailable Yacht Association who are based around the Styles point area on Lake Macquarie, they sold the boat some time ago and got involved with the volunteer coast guard at Swansea, from what I know of them they have moved to Tasmania and I have had no contact with them for years, the photo on your bulkhead was taken on a cruise to the Whitsundays, hope this helps some with the history of your Sonata 7, if you live in the Hunter area look up the NHTYA website and maybe turn up on a club cruise or race weekend, cheers Chris
Thanks for the info Chris. Its so interesting to hear about the history of Melody Maker. Amazing to think of the cruising grounds its visited.
Roger is my Dad. He just saw this video. I'll DM you on Facebook David.
Really nice boat - thanks for sharing! I hope your family enjoys it.
Such a great adventure!
We loved this video! Mum also loved hearing your mum talk on the video too. We like making sailing videos too - we came and sailed herons in Sydney at Easter this year. From Luca and Gene at kids afloat
Hi Luca and Gene. Thanks for watching. Its hard to get Mum to talk on the Camera but it is so good when she does. Sydney Harbour is such a great place to explore and doing it by boat is the best way to do it. We will have to check out some of your videos. I hope you like watching the next videos. Regards Dave, Cooper, Campbell and Sam.
@@SailingLaguna thank you, we love watching all of them so far! I hope you like our movies too. From Gene
This is brilliant, thank you. So much help to see how people organise their family in a boat!
Its called a "Toggle Pin" on the furler.. "Topping lift" holds up the boom at the "clew" end of the mainsail. . 🙂
great video mate.. cheers
