Hi Olu, excellent episode as always. Thanks for your breakdown of the terrible antics of the Libya authorities who put the innocent Super Eagles players and their delegation in such danger. One thing that you may or may not have been aware was how dangerous the last minute diversion ordered by the highest 'political' authority really was as the plane was descending into Benghazi. The Tunisian pilot pleaded with the Libyan ATC , 8 times explaining low on fuel the plane was. But was told they must not land in Benghazi under any circumstances and directed them to the Al Abraq, which was not even the alternate airport in the flight plan. I know a bit of flying so let me break it down: 1. The Airport at Al Abraq was not even their Alternate airport in the event of an emergency at the main destination (Benghazi). This is simply unheard of in aviation. 2. The Fuel they had was barely enough to get them to Al Abraq. Once a pilot makes this known to Air traffic controllers, they must clear him to land in the main airport or the designated Alternate. Not doing so, means attempted murder. Only an absolutely cogent explanation such as earthquake or another natural disaster can justify what the Libyans did. 3. Al Abraq airport does not have the flying aids pilot require to land at Standard airports. The fuel in the aircraft was barely enough for the pilot to make one attempt at landing. He won't have been able to "go around" and try again. This means that if not for the Mercy of God and the dexterity of the pilot, the plain would have crashed and perhaps all on board would have died. This was attempted murder and its beyond football. The Nigerian Government must take this up to the highest possible levels.
