PEPAJ That’s what the Gusle is. It’s for epic poetry about wars, battles, and Serbian heroes. Ghegs got it from Slavs which would explain why it’s predominantly used by Ghegs and not Tosks. Gheg Muslims even got a figure “Đerzelez Alija” (Gjergj Elez Alia) from Slavic Muslim Guslars. Even Serbian Nobel prize laureate wrote books and stories about the character; “Put Alije Đerzeleza [The Journey of Alija Đerzelez]” Even the name Lahuta is a Latin based exonym from the instrument “Lute” whereas Gusle has origins in old Slavic language. Even old Byzantine historian wrote in the Seventh century about Balkan Slavs with instruments similar to greek Lyres but smaller, Lyre was almost exactly like a larger Gusle. I am not here to start balkan comment war I just share facts

PEPAJ What actually? Well I am not saying that Gheg are 100% Slavs but they got many traditions from them and they did assimilate many, but still not ALL Ghegs are Slavs. For example if you see the folk costumes from Ghegs you see the cream colored wool pants with the black stripes and they got this from Serbs because Serbs controlled textiles and fabrics in southern Balkans, so they would pay Ghegs in wool and fabric and other clothes to protect them (because many Ghegs acted as mercenaries and would protect you from blood feud, Krvna Oveta or Gjakmarrja in Albanian) Personally I am from Vasojevici and Rovcani highlander tribes so I am very interested in the history of Serb and Albanian highlanders

PEPAJ Yes brother, I believe Malesors are more Slav than other Ghegs, any information you have I would be interested. If your last name is Pepaj, then I would suggest looking into your history because that is a name that sounds like it could be assimilated from serb Pepić or Pepović. I also recommend looking into Slavic Goranci in the Shar mountains. They are Slavs with Slavic muslim culture but they resisted assimilation to Ghegs. They are mostly in Kosovo but some in North Albania as well. One more thing is idk if Albanians still call it this but border region between Montenegro and Kosovo were called Krahinë which comes from Serbian word Krajina meaning borderland.

PEPAJ Well either way, if the book was in Serbian it would be written Pepajić, Pepić if it was in Shqip then it would be Pepaj, and greek then Pepas. I have heard many stories of Malesors finding family chests like you have and finding slavic things in it. Unfortunately, true Albanian culture is forever tarnished by Turks as well as Assimilattion because of taking cultures by assimilating. For example you know how fustanelle is worn by Tosk whose costumes are almost exact as greek, and Ghegs are slavic costume from Ras and Old Serbia. I also know that if Greeks were Islamicized they either moved to turkey or became Albanian, and if Slavs, specifically Serbs, were Islamicized they became “Slavic Turks” which are today “Bosniaks”, or Albanians depending on region. Kingdom of Montenegro had many Slavic muslims near the coast but they expelled them all so they either went to Sandzak and stayed Slavic or to Albania, Skadar or Malesia etc... If you know about Njegos book Gorski Vijenac, Mountain Wreath then you hear about the muslims leaving. The reason why i said Pepaj could hail from Slavic is because the Pordgoriçani were Slavic muslims who went to Skadar and Boriç i Madh and they are today over 80 families but are pretty much completely Albanized, one of their family names is Popaj which is similar to Pepaj. There are even up to 100 orthodox Serbs in Boriç i Madh, and in Skadar it is 0.5% Slavs on census and 6% who didn’t want to say (probably slavs i would guess).

@Kostandin Arianiti are you serious? Montenegrins are assimilated Albanians. Servs don't even exist. Watch the last video of Marin Mema. There are thousand assimilated Albanians to servs.

Kostandin Arianiti Difference between Montenegrin and Serbian is like difference between Kosovo Albanian and Tirana Albanian. Dialect differences but same people.

@Dražen Mišetić Ti prijatelju nisi procitao jednu knjigu ..i moras da navedes neki argument ,ne zelim da ulazim u raspravu sa nekim ko pominje Vizantiju koja nije postojala. Mogu da ti preporucim posto si iz hrvatske, predavanje Gorana Sarica Srbi u tajnim arhivama Vatikana II. A hrvati kao termin se pominje prvi put u devetom veku . I sve sto sam rekao su cinjenice ali to nije bitno . Prioritet je da smo svi ljudi a to je preduslov da lepo argumentima debatujemo. @Dražen Mišetić Daj obrazuj se malo pa dodji da debatujes . Grb dvoglavog orla je stariji od 12.veka kao sto je i Srbija/Ilirija/Sarmatija postojala na Balkanu i pre okupacije Rimljana . Srbija je dala 17 Rimskih imperatora (gledano po sadasnjim granicama) .
