The Sober Heathen
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 ต.ค. 2022
I am Scott and I am the Sober Heathen. This channel is to take you along my recovery journey and much more. I do my best to offer an open and honest explanation of decisions and mistakes in my drinking days. I want to do whatever I can to help those struggling with addiction. The system is built to chew people up and spit them out while offering NOTHING for actual help. Caging people for addiction does not solve the actual problem. This channel is also to help friends and family understand addiction. How it progresses and takes over can be confusing, aggravating, and terrifying! Have any questions please find me on Facebook, Twitter, or email me directly at thesoberheathen@yahoo.com. Let's have some fun!

Hooray for weeds! So nice to know that there’s other people that think the stigma of smoking weed is a bit unfair.
Uggg! Audio issues 😢
@@JenniferBradley-q7n yeah it slowed the mojo but it came around 😊
I’ve been catching up on your content again. I think it’s amazing how much I hear you both touch on the “wisdom” I have come to know. The reason is because you’re both speaking on a spiritual level and that speaks to people’s souls. If we all knew our true identity, the world would not be in the state it’s in. Addiction would not be an issue for anyone.
Awesome! It’s NOT a crime to use these programs as a stepping stone. Humans were made to evolve and learn. That’s why you take what you like and leave the rest. That’s what I did.
Great commentary. At almost 90 years old, AA has become an outdated modality. We have learned a great deal about the mind, body & addiction since then. Has AA integrated any of what science has learned in the last 90 years? No - it's the same program, teaching nearly nothing other than "keep coming back". Trading a lifetime of meetings for a lifetime of drinking is not a cure for alcohol addiction.
@@theawakecoach I agree. “Science may one day accomplish this but it hasn’t done so yet.” Bill left the door open for change. The people with the reins now just won’t do it.
Thanks for another transparent podcast - you are a genuine, authentic person following his own independent path - that's all any of us have truly Scott. That "gatekeeper" deeply wounded you with their comments that is evident but not blocking them says volumes about the quality and depth of your own recovery leaving the door open for further dialogue - good job Scott!
@@annetteheatherwalker I truly appreciate the feedback! I mean it when I say I want to continue to learn. The problem with some is they KNOW what is right and if you don’t fall in you’re not worth the discussion. Then it comes to accusations and name calling. I feel a strong program will stand on its own without that. With that said I do stoop to their level at times. I will no longer let bullies, who know nothing about me, run free without a challenge. If they are doing it to me they are almost certainly doing it to others.
Glad you are doing better Scott
You guys are awesome!
I hope you are well brother i am hoping to get into a treatment centre
i am well! Keep me posted ! Good luck!
Wow! Such a great video everyone. Thank you 😊
Awesome sharing experience, strength and hope with fellow people on this journey!
Look forward to connecting soon 👌
Everything in the USA is about money, power, and greed. We are taught that nothing else matters, certainly not feelings. Being raised with false sense of values is what is crippling our society. If we can change our programming, things would fall into place. People would not turn to harmful things to feel alive if they were a whole person to begin with.
Thank you!
I think it's awesome to hear from people who are early in recovery. The excitement and hope that is shared is refreshing.
Love you ❤ still think of you all the time.
Hope all is well Jean!
I can only imagine
Just wondering what would happen if all the sudden it was illegal to smoke cigarettes. How would people preach to others?
Love it! ♥️🦋🤘
Great music!!! Awesome show
Not my best work 😂
That was really heartfelt
Love ya Scott. So sorry to hear about your grandmother.
Thank you for your honesty; respect goes to your grandmother & family.
It feels great to gain, and share each other’s thoughts on addiction and human behavior. We are all “waking up” together. I feel energized again.
Great topic! Thanks for the shout out too😊
Glad you are going live. More please
😢❤
Thanks a lot for having me! 🙂 Was a pleasure talking to you Scott!
Started TSM 7 months ago. Just completed 6 weeks sober - met friends last night popped a Naltrexone tablet and had a couple of beers. Didn’t want anymore - it gave me an off switch I never had before. I would blackout from drink on average 2-3 times per month previously - that NEVER happened on naltrexone. Took me 7 months to get to the point where I am comfortable not drinking. Be ready to stop, be patient, KEEP A DRINKS LOG, celebrate small wins ie a 10% drop in number of units. And most importantly of all Be kind to yourself and if you have a setback don’t ruminate on it - learn from it. Good luck ❤ x
That is such a great share!! Thank you!
TSM works 🎉 ❤ options saves lives!
Absolutely!!!
Dang! I just missed you guys live. I am in Spokane, WA and (god willing) 3 months away from 5 years clean. I like the jib of your jab.
Congrats on that!! That's incredible! Thank you for listening!!!
Absolutely. More open discussions like these with yours and other’s involvement are better than a meeting in my opinion. I no longer refer to myself as an alcoholic and I am not quite to the two year threshold. I don’t drink anymore so I’m not an alcoholic.
Do any of you guys ever get burnt out on meetings? I am also curious on me saying “My name is ****** and I’m human” instead of saying that I am an addict. After almost 5 years of being clean, I think calling myself an addict day after day, all the time is a negative connotation on who I have grown to be as a person. Anyways, great show! I am happy this was recommended on my feed.
Oujia is an odd one for sure!
This is a hard topic to do. I’m excited to hear more stories. I’ve only had one brief encounter but it was enough to make me fearful of the Ouija board.
I think you're doing great. I know you have a lot on you with your grandmother. It's pretty spectacular hearing about and straight watching you do the work. Especially with little sleep and grandma not well. I appreciate your honest, intelligent and often funny work. Checking in here is helpful to me many times weekly. I appreciate your take. It resonates. I agree w you that comments like that knuckleheads was not intended to be helpful. You're doing the important stuff either way. Im glad you came to vent. Keep up the good work and the good conversation. And yeah, Funk that guy!
This is the second meeting I've seen today, one was a live i caught, that talked about the title alcoholic. I'm just not into splitting that hair. I don't care what you call yourself. That's not what keeps me sober. I use the word alcoholic about myself to remember what drinking will do to me. That's my thing. I welcome differences bc i learn a lot from people who do this thing called sobriety. I outgrew the traditional AA meeting. But I'm grateful for every year i spent in the rooms. AA saved my life. I think it's a different time, different place now. A whole world of different ways and stories of recovery available to us. If someone doesn't appreciate your story, ok then go in peace. 😊
Thank you 3. Excellent discussion, as always.
Hey Heathens! Catching on replay, good stuff. All of it.
🧶🤎
I have a discord setup and I’m planning on sharing the idea soon. Discord is a free communication app with voice and chat. A way to remain anonymous if you wish and still talk to others in the recovery community
Sounds awesome!
I like your thinking. I’m trying to take that a step further by creating an online SAFE community for our kids. If anyone is willing to come together to work on that, it would be great. The same support we give for each other should also be shared with our kids, on their thinking level. Our kids can lend support to their peers too and maybe drugs and alcohol won’t need to be used as much.
