Salford's Crashed Lancaster Bomber - PB304 Memorial
My memory with my dad is buying a leather bus seat for 10 shillings to be fitted in the back of our 1960 Reliant 3 wheeler van.
Used to go to school with Des Collins St Joseph’s in Ordsall , spent a day in the Railwsy pub Eccles’s back in about 1967, when I was about 10, used to phone him on ECC 2364 ( old phone number never forgot it ) 😂
How come no one ever remembers or finds out about my little brother Steven who died the same in the September we lived at 47 Harding St. Mum had Stephen in the front with the baby gate so he could talk to the little lad door Lee. When mam finished feeding David my youngest brother she saw Stephen was gone. She ran out looking up the street and on the croft. Lee came back and told Stephen was in the water, some older kids had let them out, and they over the bridge to the canal. Stephen fell in banging his head on the canal side. Mum found him face down. A young got him out. The ambulance on the Laundry st side so they laid him on the bridge to try and resus h8m. He died there with Mum holding his hand and stroking his legs. He was 3. Stephen Hobson, my little bro. We were never the same after that. The years haven't taken away the pain. They are all together in Agecroft cemetery.
Love that tradition, brilliant, was disappointed they removed table from the Lamb though🍺👍
Great job guys 👍 and I would love to know what Julie’s secret is she doesn’t look any older than 40 ! Hope you find her friend 🤞
Fantastic exhibition Phil ! Hey Tony don’t forget Llangollen 🤣 What a super poem Steven 😊 My grandad was a binman at one point 😊 My gran as bus conductor at Weaste 😊 The winters were cold ! I remember my gran layering coats on top of me at night 😂 Such happy memories of being brought up in Wythburn st, Seedly , Salford 😊 Happy Days 😃
David? Byrne, come on mate.
lived in Poplar court not far from the church, remember David Wyatt and his lovely wife. Open house to all the kids in such deprived area, moved away in 1974 but went back to say hello a few times, such fond memories. Singing in the choir at weddings and funerals for 25p a time felt so rich, going on trips in an old bread van, sitting on the racks, no health and safety then !! Nice to see he's still going strong, thanks for all you did when I was young x
Has anyone got any photos or knows of any relating to South Langworth Road in the late 70s. I can't find many at all.
It's remarkable how a thriving "city centre" of markets, shops, cinemas, churches, institutions and dense terraced homes vanished to become no more than a residential suburb of Manchester!
Salford council closed it for "refurbishment", but left it unheated for over a year. Dry rot set in and they couldn't afford to repair it. Sold and used as a restaurant. But was not a success and closed. I visited many times in my youth and sad it see it in this state. Too far gone to be saved, needs to be knocked down and rebuilt.
@@GlynDavies-tn1bq it’s owned by a private developer
Great memories.
Emotional video.
A very interesting video about an amazing place I've only recently discovered and would love to be able to visit. Thanks Tony and Phil, it's been great watching :)
Not so keen on Councillor August stating the multi storey was a "monstrosity", but rather an historical iconic part of Eccles for over 50 years. I love Eccles and will be filming tomorrow morning the shops and the car park for a nostalgic look round the " monstrosities" before it gets knocked down. Its historical, memorable and sad for me to see it change.

We're are they sold? Looks to be a great source of pies .
RIP Fred, funeral today
My Dad worked at Agecroft Crematorium in the 70s and 80s and met Canon Wyatt many times- he admired him greatly and spoke of him often. He loved all the work Canon Wyatt did for some of Salford’s most vulnerable people. Dad passed away last year but he would have been so chuffed for Canon Wyatt’s honour.
How do we get a copy of that work of art,my house and school are on there, and so many memories, thanks for doing it mate, nice to hear the Salford accent again ……regards from an ex pat…
One of my best pals grandparents had thr ship canal, many a good memory in there
Wow!!!
Love this!!!
Current state of it is an absolute joke.
Will there be anything left of Eccles?
Excellent video. Lots of that I remember and some I don't. Good to fill in the blanks. BTW the last clip was a view of Thorn Court. I lived on Spruce Court, the other red brick tower block with Roger Krinks barber shop on the bottom corner facing Belvedere Rd. As I say, excellent video
see lay
Nothing from NMGH for 2 years
In the mid 1970’s my uncle moored his boat in that exact spot. If you want an absolutely brilliant story of canal boat building in Salford, please get in touch. I do have pictures that will prove it happened.
Very apt appealing and full of substance narration Salutes Sir
As a fund raiser for the future how about letting families put cremation plaques on the interior walls for their passed loved ones. There have been so many stolen from the cemetery. I don’t know what the cost would be, but it may be worth a look. I would certainly want my grandads and one of my uncles to be replaced in there. Both memorials stolen to be weighed in no doubt.
I lived at South Langworth Road the docks were magic new years eve all the fog horns greeting in the new year.
Salford City Council the cities biggest vandals
Again a beautiful building gone to ruin. Salford City Council are vandals to our heritage. I always visited there as a high school kid to see the Monks Hall museum beautiful. 😢
Have seen that from a child to now 50+ My Grandmother was serviced there. I would love to see it restored to it's glory 🙏please keep up the great work don't let it be wiped out and destroyed.
I was born at Hope, grew up in Lower Broughton and Ordsall, finished up in Ellesmere park Eccles.. fiercely proud of my Salford roots...
I believe Dad's relatives are burried in St Thomas's grave yard, in the 1800s. Their surnames are Lear, Hardy, Buckley posibly other too. On another subject my Grandparents Clara Buckley and Thomas Henry Ratcliffe married in 1917 in St Thomas's Church.
Eccles used to be great in the 1908’s, my first regular haunt was the Cross Keys, and then the Swinging Sporran, sadly both gone now, and now Eccles is no longer a decent place.
Great, thanks for your work. By the way, think the car wasn’t a Vauxhall but perhaps a Ford Classic/Capri?
Wow, Eccles has changed A LOT since I was there last. The welly was the first pub I went in. In the Kate 70's we used to go in wearing our school uniforms. The landlord would let us go in the vault and play a couple of games of pool. He'd only serve us half pints and we were only allowed two each before he kicked us out.
Much prefer the 1960's scenes. ❤ Thank you for sharing.
Fudge & Speck will return soon.
Think the Burgundy car with 4 headlights is a ford consul 315, not 100% sure as I was born in 65.
What load rubbish Eccles thing of past the council, don’t care😮
Looks mint, used to hold raves in there when we were kidz
Great stuff, Flynn-eh.
The Fred Fielder show on Radio Manchester at 12noon on a Sunday was a delight to listen to. Like all the other good programmes on Radio Manchester they decided to get rid of them.
Great video and insite into Eccles pub, history thanks for putting the in time/ effort and posting this video... Just wondering if you knew my father he was from Eccles and he died in 2016 .. his name was Jonny Bey?.
The Eccles Town Hall Pub is rented out for accommodation today, absolutely no chance of it being demolished.
800 tons equivalent of 20 Fully loaded Articulated trucks and trailers Tony! Great and interesting video.
In fairness, when he said he can't figure out what 800 tons is in weight, I think he meant to say in volume...look up Tony 🤣
