The 'Lento con Amore' (introduced by the Cadenza that concludes the first and second movements) is the third section of this Concerto Comenia for Alto Saxophone & Symphonic Wind Band. Composed in 2006 and revised in 2011 for soloist Pieter Pellens and the Royal Symphonic Band of the Belgian Guides, this piece is one of my earliest classical works. The melodies in this slow movement date back to my late teens and reflect my ongoing journey of blending traditional classical music with cinematic colors.
In 2006, I had the honor of performing part of this concerto as a soloist with the Symphonic Orchestra of the Conservatory of Ghent, conducted by my composition teacher, Maestro Dirk Brossé. Two years later, I performed the full concerto during my saxophone master’s recital with 'Het Houtlands Harmonieorkest' (BE), conducted by one of the most influential figures of my musical journey, Nico Logghe. This concerto is dedicated to my saxophone teacher, Frank Commeene, who inspired and guided me for over a decade.
