Salford Quays Cargo Crane Demolition
มุมมอง 886 ปีที่แล้ว
This shows the final bogie from the DD2 cargo cranes being lifted over the Metrolink power lines to be sent for scrap. Earlier in the day the cabs and jibs of both cranes had been cut from their supporting columns, lifted and broken up on site. Only a few months earlier these were locally listed structures of historic importance, being unique to the former Manchester Docks. The remains of the c...
NTL Cable Modem Installation
มุมมอง 1.2K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Rather dated explanation of how to use an NTL cable modem. The original CD was about to be binned when I thought it might be nice to upload it, so that everyone can relive those happy memories. You could also ignore everything the video says and connect your computer up with an ethernet cable with no additional configuration needed, but they didn't tell you that. Salford BG Triathlon World Cup 2007 (Time Lapse)
มุมมอง 186 ปีที่แล้ว
Time lapse recording of the Salford BG Triathlon World Cup on 29th July 2007, filmed from Imperial Point with a terrible webcam. The picture focuses on the Lowry plaza in Salford Quays, which was the finishing point of the race that year. The recording covers some of the early setup, the race, and the breakdown.

From The Server Room, De La Salle College, Salford (Time Lapse)
มุมมอง 6026 ปีที่แล้ว
This is a very long time lapse made from the server room window of De La Salle College in Salford, using a webcam which was terrible even back in 2006. I'd hoped to get it to a year, but someone pulled the plug on it when the old servers were cleared out. The buildings were demolished in April 2015.

    Andrew, we are doing live special on August 14th about the Welsh built Dragon computer, and since it was a computer sold through Boots during it's heyday (and had no TV commercials of it's own), we would like to play a Boots commercial from the same time period (1982-1983) to show people in our North American audience what was a typical Boots commercial was like. Would we be able use this clip (and crediting you, of course)?

    Why would they recommend a USB 1.1 adapter to connect to an Ethernet interface? This is a bottleneck and means more hardware to support that they’re responsible for. An Ethernet controller on a PCI bus would be a LOT faster and less of a bottleneck. Another point: Why didn’t they include an autorun.inf file on the disk to automatically start the installation executable on the disc, rather than have the end user type in the location of the executable on the optical drive in the run dialog? Also, what if your disc drive wasn’t mounted on the letter D? I remember back in those days, it was common to have more than one optical drive. I bet this caused a monumental headache for those working in customer support for the less tech savvy back in the day. Speaking of autorun stuff, I can’t remember if this is correct or not, but I have a feeling that Windows would auto start an executable if it was called “setup.exe”, rather than “install.exe”.

      Spark Plug They said the application should start automatically. However, some users may have turned off the Autorun feature of the OS.

      Reiss Wheatley Strangely enough, this aired during what I think was the network premiere of ‘A New Hope’ on ITV. That’s why I had this copy of the ad; this was captured from a VHS recording of Star Wars made by my Dad. Think it was the last block of ads before the attack on the Death Star.

    It's a great shame that those cranes were scrapped. They are a point of interest and should have been kept for future generations.

    • @andydvsn
      @andydvsn 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aidan O'Rourke Totally agree. I was in touch with a couple of people in the council, but despite some interesting reports and ideas they’d had, nothing came of it. Money again, though some of the figures I saw for refurbishment seemed excessive. Despite the safety concerns people were reported to have, they were structurally very sound. All thick steel, not much more than surface corrosion, especially seeing as they’d already stripped the handrails and ladders from the jibs. London Docklands shows what could have been done with them, and their cranes were the larger, ‘off-the-shelf’ version of these custom made ones.

    • @AidanORourke
      @AidanORourke 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many thanks for highlighting this. In Dublin docks they have also kept a couple of cranes. Why can't we preserve our heritage like other cities do?

    This was one of the adverts in one of the breaks when "Star Wars" was shown on TVS in either 1982 or 1983. I think just before the Death Star battle. Must have watched the bloody thing on fast forward 20 times.
