Title : - " Transitioning to Online Instruction."
Speaker :- Prof. (Dr.) Sahana Murthy, Professor, Interdisciplinary Program in Education Technology, IIT Bombay.
Abstract of the Talk: - How do instructors and students familiar with physical classes begin to transition to online instruction? What do instructors need to pay attention to beyond content delivery while teaching in the online medium? This talk will discuss various aspects of moving to online instruction, such as the difference between emergency remote teaching and online instruction, learner-centric pedagogical strategies and the required technology tools. The talk will highlight key principles based on evidence from research and practice that instructors can use for effective online instruction. It will describe the resources available to instructors and a walkthrough of the self-paced course on online teaching.
About the Speaker:- Sahana Murthy is Professor in the Educational Technology inter-disciplinary program at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. Her research interest is in Technology enhanced learning of thinking skills: developing students' problem-solving, design thinking and inquiry practices in STEM domains via interactive technology enhanced learning environments. Another area of focus is Teacher use of educational technologies, which has led to the design of models and large-scale professional development workshops for effective integration of technology and pedagogy. One such model, the learner-centric MOOC (LCM) model has formed the basis for several online and blended courses on NPTEL and IITBombayX platforms. Before joining IIT Bombay, she was a post-doctoral researcher in Physics Education Research at Rutgers University and MIT, USA. She received her Bachelor’s degree from the University of Mumbai, Master’s degree in physics from IIT Bombay, and PhD in physics from Rutgers University.
