im certain a combination of a terrible carb and needing a new valve adjustment has to do with it. i really wanted to do the pumper carb, but decidedly went with an e-start 500 and am almost never looking back- but keep thinking about an XR650R... why? i have no idea.

Thanks man- yeah it's so tempting to simply try to ride faster, but i just want to finish the race and have great memories of it, not regrets- that mentality will definitely keep me from being 1st place in Baja- but hey... finishing it would be pretty cool

i did this race on tubes! no flats! everyone said it couldn’t be done🤷🏼‍♂️ just gotta have the right tubes, installed a certain way, and keep in mind you have tubes while riding. and 15 psi and i weigh 130 pounds on a ktm 450

man i've done coyote flats i think 4 times now, and i feel like we've taken a different road to the head of the trail every time- and we've come down multiple ways as well.

@@gripitandripittv there's a lot of roads for sure. I have an old video on my xr650 coming down that steep ass road. My jetting was all jacked up so much popping on that video. I used to live there in Bishop and most of my family still does. As a matter of fact, my grandpa was one of the founding members of sneakers mc. He was there during Bishop mc but politics disbanded them and sneakers mc started. He also helped build the original bishop mx track...

on the line before the race i always say "smooth is fast and there's nothing wrong with last".

I usually carry 3-4 extra go pro batteries and I run the camera on extended battery mode. Each battery lasts about 70 minutes if I'm lucky. 4k 30fps in super view at just the first stage of stabilization.

My buddy said the same thing. Wouldn't hurt to raise the RPM's a tick- i definitely favor lower RPM's, but I think overall it wouldn't hurt to shorten up the gears a touch.

Oh man that bums me out the mikuni is giving you issues- I really wanted to upgrade to that. The other thing that really helped is getting the valves adjusted. I tried a lot of other combos the one on this video seems to work 95% of the time. Then once it's warm it's easy to kick first try.

Thanks Rob! I've done a couple of lap 2's now- and the main goal being to complete it, but also I have no shame in DNF'ing. You should try and do a lap 2 up until each check point. each check point usually has an easy way back to camp because they have trucks etc there. That's how I started.
