    • @TherapyWoodWorks
      @TherapyWoodWorks 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for the comments. I do mention the dust extraction somewhat at 3:45 and at 10:00 minute marks. It does work for the chips that hit the bin, which is maybe less than half but the great part is the dust from sanding gets totally removed which is a big plus. I do call this a successful system. I have been on a sizable renovation for the past 2 years and have not had much chance to use the lathe.

  • @oldguy1030
    @oldguy1030 ปีที่แล้ว

    I enjoyed the video. Nice joinery without fancy stuff. One thing, however? End-grain to end-grain glue joints can actually be quite strong. Best to do some good sizing but in the end (pardon the pun) you have a strong joint. Patrick Sullivan worked on that weak end-grain joint myth and showed it to be problematic at best. The key is to realize that the end-grain should pretty much be treated as straws - you have to do the sizing to fill those "straws" up a bit and then you are getting a strong glue joint that extends a ways into the wood. I didn't see any reason to use an end-grain to end-grain joint for this build so it really didn't matter for this project. Pretty cool to use the CA glue trick but I might have just used the CA glue since that should make a pretty good joint unless you are going to rap it with a hammer or similar?

    • @TherapyWoodWorks
      @TherapyWoodWorks ปีที่แล้ว

    • @TherapyWoodWorks
      @TherapyWoodWorks ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually the lower hose does not interfere at all. moving the tray doesn't affect how well the unit extracts dust as most of the dust is actually extracted by the upper hose, the lower section takes care of most of the heavier chips. If I had to do it again I probably would have made the tray about 10 cm wider to better catch the flying chips, but I don't mind a little sweeping as long as the dust is controlled. I have plans to do a "follow up video " on many of the different things I built, just got to get around to it !!!!

    Dan, I had an idea for when I start power carving again. I haven't done this yet, so I'm not sure how it's going to go. My idea was to use my drill press and a couple different sizes of forstner bits to hollow out a lot of the inside of the bowl, cutting down on the carving time and making a smaller mess.

    • @TherapyWoodWorks
      @TherapyWoodWorks ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I always say there is no ONE way to achieve a goal, there can be MANY ways. My personal thought on the forstner bit would be that I don't see it being much faster as the Turbo plane is pretty darn fast at hacking out wood. you will still create a pile of chips and shavings, they will just be around your drill press and not flung all over. When I carve I wear full PPE which takes some time to get dressed up in so I may as well carve away the entire projected while I wear my gear. You could check out my burl bowl carving video if you have not already to see what I mean about PPE th-cam.com/video/UTL9mQQTz88/w-d-xo.html Thanks for watching!
