I’ll make this really short and sweet, Marty was the perfect fit for Megadeth. Kirk was a perfect fit for Metallica. Both humble players, filled their positions perfectly. However if you want to compare talent this isn’t close to a fair matchup. You have great guitarists and you have a guitarists great enough to play with Jason Becker. Need I say more?

Kirk has good melodic solos (including some with wah like the one in Enter Sadman or Wherever I May Roam), however Marty Friedman is very fast and good and I think that makes him better, but speaking of tastes, I'll stick with Kirk.

Both are amazing guitarists, Marty has amazing exotic phrasing and Kirk has very awesome, intricate and thrashy licks and other spices that makes his solos so sexy, and if you think Kirk can’t play any good new stuff now, listen to his solo EP called portals which he released in 2022, he just unleashed 100% of his power on that record and nobody talks about it, I love both guitarists, kirks portals EP and Marty’s cacophony/pre Megadeth stuff are both criminally underrated

I seriously don’t see why people think Marty is better , he couldn’t even stay in mega deth . Kirk has way more recognized solos than Marty . If you play kirks solos regular people who don’t know much metal knows it , you can ply anything megadeth and know one knows . There’s literally no where as much emotion in megadeth solos like there is in Metallica . I dokt know if it’s difficulty that people ride Marty on but difficulty dosnt mean better solo .

This is such an unfair comparison. Kirk is a really good metal guitarist, but Marty is a virtuoso with extremely sophisticated phrasing who may be one of the most creative guitarists ever.

In a wah pedal contest Kirk wins hands down.

at least 50% of Hammett's solo is out of key every time. He always solos in the key of E, no matter what key the song is in. He is truly tone deaf. Not a good thing for a musician.

Started out on metallica but i must say Marty is so much cleaner n more accurate live than Kirk. But between Marty n Steve Addler they've tied on the ugliest picking hand...

Marty sounds more tight, but I like the sound of Kirk more, even when the technicality and it tightness are not better.

Marty may be quicker and clearer but kirk got wah👍

Big difference in skill/technique. Marty is more comparable to Alex Skolnick. That being said ,I do enjoy Kirks solos on the earlier albums.

Kirk has better solos. Marty is better with guitar technique. Only thing that matters is song writing. Kirk = better. People just look at technique like that matters 😂 only matters live mate.

Technically Marty , but Kirk is perfect fit for Metallica and he’s very inspiring and melodic, for me they’re best ever guitarist of metal🙏

Im a kirk hammet fan but, Marty friedman is so technical, unique and has much more meaningful solos, unlazy writing and the feels in his solos are really stunning.. anyway Im not the guitarist I am today withouth anyone of them so...

Both have own technique, they are great but of course i prefer marty, the only hope that i really want heard more solos style from kirk is like disposable heroes , it would be great
