I have two tents which (due to their colour) don't lend themselves to great stealth camping. I am changing the tent's colours to attempt to blend in with the natural environment.

    I do like the mount that stays on the fork though. More streamline than the Ortlieb which has little arms that stick out. Looks like a nice option.

    One thing I've noticed in researching touring tires, Schwalbe states the Mondials are their flagship but, put 5mm puncture protection in their Marathon plus Tour tires which seems better. I think if you drop down a size to 42-622 it may solve you fender problem.

  • @BillSmithPerson
    @BillSmithPerson ปีที่แล้ว

    Any word after one year with the Mondials?

    • @newdecadecycling
      @newdecadecycling ปีที่แล้ว

      I rode the PCBR around this time last year and got 3 punctures during an afternoon and the next morning. I attribute all 3 to the wire belts of blown truck tires.

      @@newdecadecycling G'day, how did you find the mudguard mod performed? Did it tend to spray you with water or mud? Depending on your reply, I'll do the same mod. Thanks!

    • @newdecadecycling
      @newdecadecycling ปีที่แล้ว

      @@99muddy99 Hi Muddy. The mod does work and is effective. That said, I have heard of an alternative that is potentially more effective. Rather than widening the mudguard at the fork to accommodate the thicker/higher tire, cut the mudguard so that it does not need to pass thru the fork. This will leave you with a front & rear section of mudguard that you reattach to the front & rear of the fork via a small L-bracket. If this short description doesn't make sense, PM me & we can arrange a chat to discuss it further.

    • @99muddy99
      @99muddy99 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@newdecadecycling G’day mate. Thanks for your reply. I understand your L-bracket mod; however, I think i’d prefer yours. I also have a Vivente Gibb with Rohloff. Mine is a 2016 model, with 700mm wheels, and I’m running 35mm tyres. My understanding is that i would need 650D(?) rims to accomodate 50mm tyres. Have you any insights or thoughts? Thanks again.

  • @captaincarl1603

    This test also makes it clear that the colour of a tent is only one factor in concealment. Shape, reflection and movement are equally important. Best regards from the Swedish Army!

  • @garydunbar2734
    @garydunbar2734 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I’ve just had the same issue with my Gibb and the front guard, your idea with heating and flattening looks like a better option than no guard on the front(which I have been doing). Good option is a tape inside the tire, thanks

    • @shawnhardie543

      From memory, the book did supply a contact phone number for the first part on the southern side of the highway, and possibly the last section north of the highway. The last section does not have any homesteads or buildings, whereas the first section does

    How much of the foliage is deciduous? I find in the UK woodland many tents don't cut it in Autumn and winter. I use a tarp and tent combo with camo nets for summer/spring. Trying to find the depth of woodland I need is key. How deep do I need to be for full blend was my issue. Great video, subbed.

    • @newdecadecycling
      @newdecadecycling 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mark - in my neck of the woods there are few deciduous trees. In the southern parts of Australia you'll see more of these types of trees. This means the landscape looks pretty similar during the whole year.
