This scene is poorly done because where is the glory and light of the goddess? Since ancient times ALL CIVILIZATIONS have referred to the gods as having certain characteristics, including the brightness that accompanies their presence and the "fire" of their eyes, their clothes are also described as resplendent, and their faces, arms and body in general give off a blinding glow, this "Demeter" looks more like a peasant in a nightgown made of sleeping bag, DISAPPOINTING SCENE
What is that OST called? Such an ominous yet hopefull tune.

Just noticed, this crop is corns, a crop that is not native to Greece.
It’s native to America thiugh. The gods are not all the same being. The Demeter who exists in Greece is not the same as the Demeter who manifest in America. The beliefs and practices surrounding them change. This is outlined in the book and even in the show when you see different versions of Jesus.
Demeter’s blessing brings good harvest. Corn was planted, so corn grew

The weather/creator god being married to Mother earth is Kind of the basic structure of all indo european religions. So Oden and Demeter have some history very far back. She was an avatar of not just his wife but his other half, the yang to his yin so to speak.
She's also Freya/Frig.

You’d think the Greek gods would be doing well in America and in general, given how famous they are and how much Greco Roman stuff is all over the European world. And how they actually do have some followers again.
The other gods are (in the series, Vulcan is killed by Wotan). But under the author's words, the Greeks are, too well known and too praised. Unlike other gods, the representation of the Olympians is straightforward. The statue of liberty, the government buildings, Hermes in the station, the months of the year, the name of the planets. Ceres/Demeter is certainly one of the most overlooked goddesses of the Olympians, but Zeus, Athena and Aphrodite? Icons of modern culture, even Eros/cupidus is the image of St. Valentine. Demeter is in this state because she totally lost her Eleusinian mysteries. Although rather than finding a logical reason why Demeter is like this and the other Olympians are not, it is that they just wanted a replacement for Ostara. I would have bet better on Chloris/Flora. A Greek/Roman goddess of flowers and gardens, easy to forget but replacing ostara as goddess of spring.

This is actually explained in the series. The gods manifest as their followers would see them. There are even multiple different incarnations of the gods. For example, there are white Jesuses, black Jesuses, Mexican Jesuses (poor guy got crucified at the border), and modern culture Jesuses… They all have a party at Easter’s house

my problem with stuff like this involving gods is that when worship has a clear and extreme effect why wouldn't you worship? like seriously it would fundamentally alter society and be based on what gods you worship and if you didn't have a direct god to go to bat for you your at a clear disadvantage, forget war, war is just the start of what would happen people would seek out ways to manipulate the system to push their gods agenda in all sorts of ways
and if one god for whatever reason isnt helping say end a famine if another does and then protects you from the one that didnt help, very quickly the whole dynamics of this world would be all over the place

This doesn’t happen to everyone. It only happens to some. And those people go on and spread the faith and some people believe and some don’t. The gods don’t appear to everyone.
@@WTKB82 gods dont need to appear to everyone they just need to have a clear effect on the world, like if you offer x amount of your best wheat the god of fertility blesses your crops to grow bigger and better next time, honestly any time people see a more efficient way to do things they gravitate towards them, and honestly its to the point people that DONT do something to attract a god would be viewed as stupid/a massive risk

All these shows humanize the gods. that is the problem. A real god has no need for help.
Although I do wish I had this power to help others. When my grandmother had cancer, I would have loved to do this dance and had the magic to make her get out of bed to dance with me. At least one last time. But that was fantasy.

I am almost done watching the series, and I was wondering if anyone is as confused about this series as I am? Don't get me wrong, I like it, but I'm totally lost in regards to the story. Lol! FYI, this has to be one of my favorite scenes in the whole series.
It is quite confusing as Brian fuller left after season 1 taking some of the actors with him, this caused the show to divergent from the books.
