A Start from Rudy by Jerry Goldsmith piano arrangement
Ruuuuu-dy! Ruuuuu-dy! I may be biased as a graduate of Notre Dame, but I also had never seen it until my first weekend there (my roommates sat me down in front of a tv as soon as they realized it). Timeless story of perseverance, shot on one of the prettiest campuses in America, about the greatest college football team of all time (come at me, jackals) :)
Jerry Goldsmith won an Oscar for his demonic score to The Omen, but it's always been his sweet writing that I like the best, STTMP, First Contact, Hoosiers. Rudy is one of the most beautiful, soaring, lyrical melodies he ever wrote. Don't discount his football, writing, though - the Celtic overtones underscore the majesty and sanctity of the gridiron.

"Marimba Repeat" is my friend! That switch on the organ saves you all those 16th notes, making a live rendition much more doable. Hans is so good at taking small ideas, repeating, expanding, increasing to make a gradual build. I'm so happy to bring the Lowrey Organ into more of these videos. Lovely piano playing
@bunkerhillguy2542 thanks, man!
Great video! Notre Dame has my favorite college fight song. I mostly watch the SEC, but I prefer a lot of the fight songs of the Midwest and the Big Ten in particular. Also a big fan of Jerry Goldsmith. Rudy is certainly great, but I’ve always loved Goldsmith’s score for Disney’s “Soarin’ over California” attraction. The behind the scenes story of his work on it is quite touching.
@joemorgan8618 I have to look up Soarin', I don't know it, Exciting! In the ND Glee Club we always sang a cavalcade of opposing fight songs. As much as I dislike MSU, that's a good one.
Is that a garland of ND Shirts I spy on your piano?
@mlasseter Sarah made it but I pilfered it for the video 😀
You put your fingers ON the piano, not IN the piano. Good video!
@allenlind3574 thanks Allen! Why re-record when you can make fun of yourself!
This is really impressive, great work bro!
@@BeachBeans2327 nice, BeachBeans, thanks for the support!
Watching again since the new movie is coming out 😊❤

In a perfect world, you'd have a bust for every piece you play!
Nice one of my favorite movies sweet romantic comedy imaginative I was doing some freelance on State street while they where filming it ♥️
@christinamarti4441 that's so cool, I miss the city! There are tons of movies filmed in Savannah, we at least hear about celeb sightings all the time.

Awesome video! Loved the snow effect and all the amazing shots. So many great Danny Elfman scores, but I’ve always loved his work on Spider-Man.
@joemorgan8618 thanks Joe! I think I was Elfman tired by '02 but I'll give it another listen. I forgot to list the snow footage, came from Pexels.
This is terrific! I remain in awe of all the music you post on this channel.
@MaryBethLasseter Thanks MB!
Did you just "Burton" your video?!? Very creative and fun to watch! Your passion for the music shines through!

Amazing camera spinning! Never seen that on a cover of this song before!

One of my favorite songs. Keep playing!

@HeyThereBrianDean You're welcome 😂😂❤️I sometimes forget I didn't put my first name in my username. But keep playing, you really captured the emotion and feelings of the song. I enjoyed it so much🫶🫶🙌🙌❤️❤️it inspired me.
I'm digging this. Please go to work dressed like that at least once. On second thought, twice would be weird.
Love it Allen. Maybe on a hybrid day....from home...😀
Apologies as you seem a respectable chap....but that was fucking awesome

My zen place is movie music! Great work Brian!!!! As my daughter is on her journey in percussion, it rekindled my love for playing. Currently working on a few Danny tunes on mallets!!! VP represent!
Does anyone know how to export a mix with better bass for a smartphone? Can't hear the pedals unless I play it through good headphones. Thanks!
Nice work! The special effects are getting better with each episode.
Trying to take more time with them, thank you! The first 30 were in a row; I like the 2 week cadence better 😂
There seem to be hints of Phillip Glass inthis. Very good. I love Zimmer's compositions.
Agreed! Minimalism abounds with Zimmer. The switch that helps the right hand is called, "marimba repeat." That reminds me of Steve Reich's "Six Marimbas."
This is awesome! I never saw The DaVinci Code, but I love your organ rendition of the score. Very 1970's Krautrock.
Thanks, Homestar!
How random this was to find. Hi Brian! I looked up Breakfast Machine, but I was just seeing horrible video quality of Danny Live. This video was in the mix. I did not pay any attention to your channel name just the title. After seeing you appear I said to myself that looks like Brian Dean.......well it is! Great work and I absolutely love you music theme of Movie music. I will catch up on your videos. Hello from the Janowski family!!!!
I saw the subscription come through and though, "can't be toooo many Nick J's out there!" Villa Park to the end!
Really enjoying your videos. Glad you decided to start posting again. I am also a pianist and film score fan. How much do you rely on the commercially released sheet music? I have a pretty good collection but some of the piano reductions are better than others and I'm always improvising. The music of John Williams is especially hard to convert to solo piano although the Ewok Parade sounds pretty close to the orchestral version.
Almost always from printed music. The John Williams 90th birthday I had to figure out about half of the themes. This one is from a published version, I just "sweetened" a few things that I thought were missing, like the string flourishes.
Randy Newman, composer of nine Pixar movies, such as all four Toy Story movies, A Bug's Life, Monsters, Inc./University, along with Cars 1 and 3.
How about Pleasantville? I love that one.
I didn't know he worked on live action movies, I think I'll look into it.
Hey Brian, my favorite film score composers I love listening to are John Williams and James Horner. 1. Do you think you can play another James Horner score? It could be Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Aliens, An American Tail, The Land Before Time, Field of Dreams, Glory, The Rocketeer, Legends of the Fall, Braveheart, Apollo 13, Titanic, Mask of Zorro, A Beautiful Mind, Avatar, or the Amazing Spider-Man? 2. For John Williams, The Fabelmans and Helena's Theme from Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny?
You're so excited, that's great! I'm trying not to do only Horner/Williams, but for sure there will be more of each this year. Braveheart/Legends for sure.
Beautiful! Ennio was a giant!
I always think of his "silent" Oscar speech a few years back. Makes me smile.
Yay! New content!
Yay! New content!
Brian, just watched this with my three-year old daughter. She gives it a thumbs up. I’m so impressed with you as a pianist. I didn’t get to see that side too much in high school - jazz band and maybe keyboard on Short Ride in a Fast Machine (speaking of minimalism). Not sure exactly who played on that, but I seem to recall you did. At any rate, really enjoy your content and enjoy sharing it with my children. Thanks!
Short Ride was like 1, 2, 3, 4: sheer terror!Joel can blame me, I can blame Matt and he can blame Joel! The first 30 of these were one a day, not my best work, but I play a little...
welcome back! its been a while
Thanks! Hope to have some consistency this year, have some good stuff planned!
I didn't know Jeff Goldblum played piano.
I'll take Goldbloom! Most of the time I get Moranis.
