I'm on this tomorrow, I moved from the south as well , not many carp lakes in the area decided to give it a go as I live local, had some amazing pike from the mill loch near by the castle but I'm missing the carp fishing all together.
I admire the respect you have for the fish you catch and release. My favourite place to fish in the UK. I have been fishing there for 55 years man and boy. There are in the last few years a certain type of people that have no respect for catch and release... The camp out on the north swims five tents and three families. they eat what they catch, Bruce Gilly knows about this and has not got the bottle to shift them. I caught one bastard skinning a pike while it was still alive, I soaked him with a bucket of weedy water and run like F*CK !! I hope you get to read this.
Another carp video that looks promising spoilt by crap music.I wish there was a trend of making carp videos without music. How about the sound of birds and nature, the sounds you hear when fishing.
I enjoyed watching that. Pioneering carp fishing in Scotland. Some lovely wild fish with little or no history of being caught. A taste of how carp fishing used to be, before it was tamed, demystified and became a business.

Great Video Stuart. The Castle Loch has always been close to my heart. First went there in 1978 for a week with my parents, where,as a 13 year old novice angler caught loads of large skimmers and Roach. I went back in 1983 and 1986 but never did get to fish for those large Bream. I often do a searches on Google about the Castle Loch now and then and that's how I found your video. PROPER hard core angling there like. That 33 Common is an absolute mega fish.
Brilliant video, I stay in Dumfries and would love to try fish castle loch for carp as I'm fairly new to the carp scene, how long did you spend at castle loch before you caught a nice carp? Any tips also? Thank you

I used to fish it years ago for the bream you could spend hours just baiting up for the bream to come in and feed through the night and pike would feed first light there was loads off eels in at one point

First fished this water in 1964 when I was a teenager. My fishing buddy, Dennis, spotted an advert in Angling Times (I think)and we booked a week at a B & B in Lochmaben not really having a clue what the fishing involved. We quickly discovered that fishing in daylight was a waste of time but come twilight the bream would really switch on. That said the first fish I saw from Castle Loch was a superb roach caught by Dennis. No feeder fishing back then so it was cast a ledgered piece of bread as far as you could with a bit of foil on the line for bite indication. It had to be bread because otherwise you never got past the eels. First ever bream from here for me and all in all a great week. I even caught my first "proper" salmon that week, a 3lb grilse, from a tribuary of the Annan. A few years later after I got married I gained relatives at Castle Douglas so on holiday with them I nipped over for a sesssion on Castle Loch and I think this was the first time I realised how fishing venues can change, natural cycles I suppose. Now it was fish in the daytime, cast a waggler as far as you could and catch small roach and skimmers in considerable numbers. Either way happy days and I've often wondered how this "cunning seventy one year old" would do on Castle Loch with all his super-duper fishing gear! Fred

Loved your video I was a member of the Loch until September this year sadly did not renew as the rules of certain people started to change whenever they felt like it and the amount of out of bounds areas to me as a member when bailiffs or certain other anglers could fish was very unfair at the end also I was told using a dinghy to boat out bait or lines was being questioned which is silly as there is a boat club on the Loch but well done on a very good campaign and what a common from a difficult water there are some other hush hush waters I fish in central Scotland holding lovely carp to upper twenty they are free to fish and off the beaten track they will do me
have you gone back on since?, its now a day ticket, i think, is it still members also?, with the people you mention fishing in the out of bounds while others cant?
I used to fish it in the nineties for pike, that island is a great place to fish from, I might be tempted to take a few trips up for the carp next spring tho

That's class! Nice fish. I've had some great sessions on the QE. It's an absolute jewel of a place. The best carp lake in the Northeast.
