As per Sven's request, 6DOF vibration capabilities - actuators only

Rat Rig V-Core 3 500 running two Clearpath servos - just a quick speed test, no tuning yet

This print ultimately failed, but just wanted to test out the servo settings after tuning. This setup is running a Duet 3 6HC connected to two 1XD boards, which are providing the Clearpath servos with the enable/step/direction signals. I still have a lot of tweaking to do, but slower speed prints are amazingly precise now and are considerably faster than running the stock nema 17's at 24V. Serv...

      Probably more actually. However, you can also do race sims, flight sims, space sims, etc. I don't have a plane, but I do own a few race cars and it's far cheaper to do the sim, lol. I'm also highly unlikely to make it to space, so it's a good compromise

      Yeah, this hobby can be quite expensive, but similar designs can be constructed from largely 3D printed parts and can be much more wallet friendly. This is way overkill for most situations and not needed in a majority of applications. It's just that small percentage of times that it is, I'm glad I built it this way.

      I went to school for electronics engineering and am currently a self taught software developer. To be completely honest, I thought I had to know the theory of reverse kinematics in order to get into something like this, but once I DID learn the basis behind this, it's largely unnecessary with today's resources. This particular design of a Stewart platform is actually very forgiving with dimensions and only a few things need to be taken into consideration is what is called a singularity, which is the point where one or more of the joints can invert and collapse the platform. Thankfully with software available like FlyPT Mover, you can plug in a bunch of numbers and simulate the design to check for these. I ended up plugging in numbers to start and modified them until I got the design largely without errors and with movement capabilities I wanted, all within my space constraints. I then put those numbers into Fusion 360 (which I also had to learn myself, but not hard to do with all the resources on TH-cam), and came up with the design I liked, then ordered the raw materials. If I could do it, that means a large amount of others can do as well. :)

      Yes, I built this mostly in my garage and final assembly in my basement where it currently resides. It's getting a redesign as we speak though where I am rebuilding the upper platform. I'm doing away with the extruded aluminum and going to a fully welded aluminum frame with more of a reclined F1-style seating position with rotating pedal assembly for easier switchover from racing to flying and back.

    • @NischGTM
      @NischGTM 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think that is totally subjective. If you're a hardcore simmer, I don't think it ever gets boring. I personally am not a hardcore simmer, but rather an extreme hobbyist. This is not my only gaming rig. I have 3 separate rigs, one for motion, one for desktop and another for arcade, all identical builds. When a game has telemetry data and can be used on the motion rig, there is zero chance I'll play it on anything but this rig. It doesn't get boring, but rather an expected dynamic of gaming with certain games. It never loses the fun factor in my opinion and I'm currently building an updated version of this rig, which will now be my third that I've built over the last 4-5 years. There are a LOT of games that use it and I have over 1000 hours alone with Elite Dangerous in this rig as well as hundreds of hours in iRacing, AC, ACC, FS2020, etc. Now does it lose the "wow" factor? Sure. Anyone that comes over and experiences it for the first time is always amazed by it, but it's just a normal part of my gaming experience now. However, that does not take away from the fun whatsoever.

      I had thought about that, but it wouldn't work well in this design, plus I just fly with HOTAS anyways. Because of that, I'm adopting a similar strategy for the racing shifter and flight stick on the right side, rotating 180 degrees out of the way depending on which I'm using. The left side where the flight throttle resides might also rotate, but just out of the way rather than being replaced with something (unless I can find something to use on that side for racing).

I know whatever the manufacturer says is safe will be ok, but I figure if i only go to 80% of the safe load/limit of these itd last longer and probably not kill me. Also, how many Gs will your setup produce? I suppose the website would say "x mm of travel per second"

      This is my original design and I mentuon it in my other videos, but this configuration was using a Thanos AMC1280USB controller hooked up to Clearpath servos using PWM signal for positioning. Thanos has since come out with a newer controller that interfaces with AASD15A servo drivers using conventional step and direction signals. The Thanos unit is under $400 and each servo/controller is about $200 per. The setup in this video was almost $1k per servo and much harder to configure. Here's a link to Thanos' latest controller. If you're truly interested, I suggest joining his Discord. • @NischGTM
      @NischGTM ปีที่แล้ว

      That nook in my basement is about 10'x10' with an 8' ceiling. I designed it with the very low position to clear the ceiling . At full vertical extension, I can reach out and touch the ceiling from the seated position, but there's no chance of hitting anywhere. This was also because I designed it to work within that space with just a few inches to spare in every direction. There's no reason why you can't do the same in your space. I originally thought that you had rigid design constraints when learning about these motion platforms, but you really can design it backwards from your space to the final product.
