Love this! My father was one of the Original Polaris Thrill Team racers, Tiger Ted Otto! Any footage you have is welcomed
My dad would let my brother & I miss school & he'd fire up our sleds . We'd head over to Arrowhead resort & watch the come bye. Best days of my life then. Thanks for sharing this video. It's a Trip down memory lane 👍🏼
Love it thank you for uploading this! So sad though when he talks about Yamaha being the new entry😥.
BahhHRrreeeeeeeeeeaaammmmM !
Damn! Thanks for posting this. I had an 81 SRX and although it's not practical for me, I still want one again. Out on the long stretch with my nose tucked into the gauge pod it was beautiful.
17:47 shows a SkiDoo sponsored by Old Dutch Potato Chips.
Had to go outside to run them things .
I was part of this race two years in a row as mechanic for our team. The first year was on a JD 340S and the second was JD 340 Liquidator. I still have the team jacket for the 340S in a plastic bag in my closet. Wore it just once. Oh, the things I saw and the stories I could tell. Once in a lifetime event.
Good morning ☕️ from Kotzebue Alaska
Ohhh 81 sorry
No artic cats no scorpions what year was this?
Wasn't this the big scorpion moment?
Skidmore came in with a race sled.
I was at this race. It was such a great race the feeling was it would become a popular, prestigious annal event. Little did I know the historical importance all these years later. And, the one and only. Was the best of times. Followed by years of light snowfall, high interest rates, and a severe blow to snowmobiling future.
Kind of a bummer for John Deere, paid all kinds of money to make this documentary and Polaris wins
I raced snowmobiles in that era 1973 Polaris TX starfire 1975 Arctic 340 Eltigre Z Eagle River was the biggest Race around I raced everything and was 6 time world champion MWCTTR Luv these videos Thank you
This is awesome
Where abouts on the river is this.
The first race is 1966. The 1968 race starts at 28:36.
Thanks dave!
I was in it # 92 polaris
What model sled?
I remember this....was great to watch this again..
Watching those new storms roll roll down the mountain made me sick
Was there. After Al Jrs car got bent during practice the track officials let him run 5 laps alone on the track to make sure all was well. Never will forget the sounds of the (Kieth Black?) small block in the hands of a maestro. Later on at Sears point saw Jacques Viilanouve in that car (Canadian Tire livery) trading passes with Jim Crawford in the F1 Ensign. Bright sunshine the Frissbee would pull a lead, then a cloud would darken the track, maybe a little mist) and the screaming Cosworth DFV had advantage. Pretty the best road race ever, certainly in my experience. Kudos on the video.
Keep the good ideas going!!! This channel needs S M Zeus!
I met and talked with Sam and Paul at Lime Rock In the 80s. Proper gentlemen. Wanting to shoot photos of Paul Newman's series one silver road driver XKE, I said "Mr. Newman" , he said "My name is Paul."
Mr Newman was a class act
This was my childhood, but living in Alaska. We were a Polaris family, and my dad was a top racer.
Been looking for video of 94. Thanks for posting
I saw my grandpa twice in this video! such a cool thing to see it in action rather than just one photo!
That’s amazing race. One tough bunch.
Seen this plane and pilot at Modesto and Stockton. Over 30 years ago.
1969 NOT 68
69 models marketed in 68 genius
I remember riding some of those old dogs back in the day. Amazing the amount of thrashing a body could take back then on 2 - 3” of suspension travel.
Music sucked so bad 👎
STACY REDMOND on a POLARIS from MASON CITY IA, where were you? You are our hero from Iowa. Always a mile ahead of everybody with a big grin!
We ran the first race in 1966...
That's me at 17:42 on a Boatel (Mora, MN) Ski-Bird. Fresh out of the Marine Corps at 21 years old(I'm78 today). "Pretty Boy" was 29. I finished # 20 @ 23:11.40. "Pretty Boy" Hennig finished #21 @ 23:40.05. Fun times...
That's so awesome! Looks like a great time, thanks for sharing
I ran that race on a Boatel (Mora MN)Ski-Bird. I'm at 17:42 on the video. I was 21 years old and fresh out of the Marine Corps (I'm 78 today). I had only ridden about a half mile on a snowmobile before that race and barely knew what they were. I blew a track about 6 miles north of Crookston MN. The mechanic and I put on a new track on the spot. It was about 20 below with a 20-25 mph wind. We had to start from that spot the next day. The wrestler Larry "Pretty Boy" Hennig managed to finish the race. He came in at #21 with a time of 23:40.05, I came in at #20 with a time of 23:11.40. I used to see Mr Hennig at the Mille Lacs Casino when I worked security there in the 90's. He enjoyed talking about the race and his wrestling buddy "Handsome" Harley Race that ran into the chicken coop and didn't finish the race. Fun times...
Now you can't tell what make is going around the track.
Great footage!
This song will be stuck in my head for days.
Awesome!!! I live in sault mi race still going strong every year!!!
1968 I was a senior....class was let out on break to watch the sleds tear down the ditch of the main highway. Dale Cormican won it that year on a Panther. The following year I was entered on a sponserd big bore Skidoo TNT! Ironically I broke down on day 3 on the Walker to Isle leg ,in the same ditch that passed the school I graduted from that spring!
Broken...typical skidoo
I Was there in 1969!!
Was wondering if Gilles Villeneuve was racing here in 75?? I know he went to Formula 1 in 77 and already was racing in Cam Am at this time during the summer months
Last rider, He’s a legend! Thanks for the video.
Seems most of them were singles, I would have thought people would use a twin cylinder
Way too much power . !
Such a simple time of life. Nothing could have been better than growing up in the 70's
Yuck, the singing!
i love old iron ,
