An excellent video. Very informative, at a good pace. Many reusable, versatile techniques. Thank you.
Thanks, I am glad you found it useful.
Thanks for clear and detailed instructive video, I noted the way the countertop on refrigerator side was left without the 1” overhang to facilitate precise placement later with sink - that’s a helpful insight, thanks again
Glad that helped! Thanks!!
Why is his voice kinda...
Kinda…? 😬
@@sketchupassistit kinda sounds like the khan academy guy
Thanks for very useful videos for any newbie, just wonder if you have similar lessons for iPad version ?
I will keep that in mind for future content. Thanks!
Dude sounds like Joe Swanson
Thanks for sharing, very helpful.
My pleasure!
Awesome tutorial, just what I was looking for... but for some reason when you first spoke I heard a little bit of Shane Gillis so when I watch I'm picturing Shane teaching me how to use Sketchup hahaha
That is hilarious. Fan of Shane so I will take as a positive. Thanks for watching!
Nice videos man, you do a good job. Just watched 4 and you got better on each one. 9 months is a long time, hope to see more soon
Thanks! Will be back very soon. My company has required a lot of my attention this year but I am finally getting caught up. Looking forward to putting together some new content.
Thanks for this video. I paid $50 for a janky app on an ipad. I wish I would have thought about sketchup. It's sooo much better, and I get an educator's discount!
It’s a great resource. Use it daily in my construction company. Thanks for watching!
Wow this is a great resource. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks, that was very helpful. Will give it a go on my own deck build. I must find out why tags are useful. Subscribed. Cheers Howard
Thanks!! Glad lol you found it useful. Tags are a bit of work but worth the effort.
Thank you
You're welcome
Well explained. Thank you for sharing.
Glad you liked it
Many thanks, It was really clear and easy to follow.
Glad it helped!
Hello! I am facing challenges modularize a complex script that I’ve written. I need some coaching on how to get it to work. Is there a way to contact you and hopefully hire you for some training in coding?
How can I help you?
What's the best way to proceed with labeling the dimensions, and the details? In other words, how do we add text explanations to a sketch drawing? Or should I just export plans and add labels through Canva? What's the best (free) way to do that?
Sketchup has a good option for adding dimensions - tools->dimensions. I have a video on that: th-cam.com/video/J5S_GcvomKI/w-d-xo.html. For more general labeling, I feel Sketchup falls a bit short but there is the tools->text option that allows you to place screen text or connect text to an object.
great videos, very helpful
Thanks!!
Bruh, the end of part one is not the same as the begining of part 2
This is NOT where you left off last time, lol
@@WilliamAltowood does it matter? it's about what he explains, not about what he makes
@@s8v1 it mattered to me, cause i was building along with the video.
Sorry about that! I wasn’t clear at the end of Video 1, I was really demonstrating the value of groups and components and not working the specific layout. Will keep that in mind in future videos.
@@sketchupassist actually, I wanna offer some positive feedback as well. The naration style is very good. You detail what you are doing, as well as your reasoning behind it. Im currently absorbing as many sketchup videos as i can, as my job now requires it, and your videos are better in that regard then many of the others ive allready viewed. Also, making a back wall as a group from the start is actually, imo a great idea, cause pulling from the wall becaumes super easy, and deleting the group after is also easy. Also, when i first started, i used to build from edit mode, and my boss would yell at me for it, but your video serves as proof that its another way to skin the cat and while he isnt happy about it, hes isnt yelling about it any more.
subbed cos helpful
Thanks for the sub!
Can you put in the screen of what you type? Thanks
Thanks for the recommendation. I will try to do that going forward.
Very clear explanation ❤ thank you ❤
Thanks!! Glad you found it useful.
Are you using a MAC OS or Windows…. I’m struggling with every aspect of Sketchup…. To the point I’m considering ProKitchen…. Every time I try to follow a video it’s on a Windows system and that seems to throw everything off, or end up with a bug splat 🤦🏻♀️. Thanks in advance! Edited to add I’m using a MAC…. I wish they offered private lessons on how to use specifically to your system.
Hi - I am using a Mac in my videos. I understand it can be a bit frustrating.
Is there anything in this video that wouldn’t be able to be done in the free version?
Should all be doable with free version.
If you select the line outside of a group to follow, select the Follow Me tool, right click on the group and select "Edit Group" you then click on your profile. Good tutorials and thank you.
Would love if you could do a video on rafters/roofs!
I will do that - thanks!
you forgot to add your decking thickness to your total deck height
Hi thanks for the comment. The deck height measurement is mentioned to be to the top of the framing. With steps, the deck board height doesn’t come into play (assuming the steps have the same deck boards as the deck itself and in particular the same thickness) except for the last rise at the bottom of the step - the reason being all steps have the same deck boards except the ground/landing pad and hence the height effectively cancels out.
Hi. Reaching out to you because I'm struggling to find answers elsewhere on web. Do you perhaps know on which platform I can look for someone to build a sketchup extension for me? I would like to build a gallery of high quality 3d furniture models. User will open the extension, select category like Beds, then Double Beds, then scroll through a gallery of about 200 beds, select one, and then it gets inserted into Sketchup. Basic Material editing should also be possible, but maybe not for the first version. I'm planning for this to be a paid subscription business. Do you perhaps have advice for me? Thanks!
That is a great question. I would start with the SketchUp developer community to see if there developers that would be interested. The other option is to reach out to developers of existing extensions. The only caveat I would offer - I might not fully understand your vision - is there are a number of things in place already that to a large extent provide what you are proposing - 3D Warehouse, Chaos Cosmos among others.
@@sketchupassist Thanks for you response! I will look into what you have suggested. We have looked at what is available, and the various shortcomings thereof for all the different types of industry users, and structuring something that will hopefully fill some gaps.
Is that sketchup free or sketchup pro you use?
That is SketchUp Pro. I can have a look back at the video to see if there are any features that wouldn’t work in the free version-don’t recall off hand.
Wow great tutorial. I usually dont watch all the way through on these tutorials but this was very informative and easy to follow along.
So glad to hear you found it informative. Thanks for the watching!!
Thanks. Seems like most sketchup tutorials are about going fast and showing off instead of teaching like this. Would like to see one on outliner.
Thanks! I will work on that.
Are there any good text books about sketchup?
I have not personally used any, but a quick look on Amazon shows two or three that have good reviews. Most of my knowledge has come from SketchUp docs, TH-cam and online material.

Your videos are amazing. I really like it. I am a new subscriber to your channel. Can I talk with you??
Thanks for subscribing! What would you like to discuss?
Young man you have a great voice for teaching. Clarity is good, volume is good...diction is good. It's so annoying to have "none English" speakers trying to teach in English. They're not in your league. I'll be watching all your videos.
Thank you so much for the kind words and support!
My editor is under the Extension menu in the Developer tools area. It' doesn't look like yours at all. I am using 2023 Pro Studio. My coworkers use 2023 Pro and they have their editors in the same location as mine. I wonder why ours is different.
Hi - yes the Ruby console is under the extensions menus in both Windows & Mac. In this video I was using the Ruby Code Editor For SketchUp from [AS].
ขอบคุณมากครับ
What's the difference between "groups" and "components"?
@@sketchupassist Thanks for clarifying the difference, I'm a newbie. Just started using the free version and need a lot more practice with push/pull, scaling and moving objects.
Thanks for doing this. Was super helpful. Earned a sub! BTW, The copy function on Windows is CTRL (not ALT).
Thanks for clarifying!
@@sketchupassistCan I use this steps in SketchUp 2013?
Helpful, thank you

Do you recommend any cabinet plugin for sketchup ?
@@sketchupassist thank you
SketchThis (not free) is good too!
Thank you, just Sub'd, I use Sketchup Make 2017 so I will try this, I know it works in some ways but the GROUP info was great to know to stay in the box. I started with Sketchup and can make great objects for XPlane Flight Simulator; may be heading to Blender as well. I am impressed w SU and I have the free one. Made a Yacht w helipad to land my helos on and made a Chemical/Refuel truck to land my Spray Helos on.
Sound like very cool applications of SketchUp. Let me know if there would be any topic that would be helpful.
Would be nice to have a shortcut key for it ... I always use it
