The age of the bespoke roadster is nearly at an end. They used to be everywhere and multiple manufacturer's would pump them out constantly. Given the homogenization and contraction within the auto industry in recent years they've largely fallen away and are getting harder to find at an price point that makes sense. Mazda has continued the fight against this decline with the MX-5. They still mak...

I love driving manual cars. I made it a priority when I was a young man to learn how to drive a standard and while I don't get to do it as often as I'd like, my passion for them remains strong. Was excited for the new Land Cruiser but couldn’t believe the quality of it when I test drove one. Wasn’t impressed at all and disappointed. Will be rebuying the 5th gen runner with no hesitation and put my own aftermarket throttle kit. Toyota has lost their minds with the prices
Wise choice I think. Like you, I'm not sure about the new one.
I’m convinced that these will go down as some of the most reliable vehicles ever made and people will want them when the 6th gens start having issues with all of the extra complication.
Couldn't agree more. Does beg the question, "if it ain't broke, why fix it?".
I learned to drive on a manual. I am currently looking for a Mazda manual, not easy to find!
Getting harder by the day...
I dunno if I would consider an ORP to be a mid-grade model. Seems 1 below the Pro to me.
I just placed my order for the 2025 awd hybrid loaded with tow package 360 driving in forget that is liner etc. I plan on throwing some at’s on mine with a one inch lift and still enjoy a nearly 40mpg
I didn't know you could get the hybrid with AWD... that makes this thing damn near perfect
@ 2025 model now has the awd hybrid with the 4k tow package
I believe you're SHIFTING kind of low... Admit that you're not a highly skilled manual transmission guy... What to get those balls gonna have to crank those revs up a bit more... Don't get me wrong - I am be moaning the lack of most cars having a manual transmission option. I even have my 2004 Chrysler 6 speed manual Crossfire in the garage for those times when I need to drive a manual transmission
I have admitted my limitations many times my friend...
Buddy ~ the 'Kicks' is NOT 'crappy'
😂
I assure you it is...
Good car to lease and return it before that CVT gives up
Lol. Yep
I wish they made turbo model with a manual
Your mouth to God's ears
I literally bought my first 6speed manual Mazda 3 S GT today and the guy at the dealer called me to move it after I test drove it because I parked someone in and he wanted it moved, lol!
What a world we live in
This car is so sexy!!! I'm considering switching my Camaro
Love it!
I am waiting the 2025 MT to come! Just wondering how the auto hold works on hill? Would you kindly elaborate more? Like does it hold until you find the biting point (enough power to move)?
It holds until you start moving forward. It works surprisingly well. Civic Si was the same. Very clever system.
@@lugnutscarreviews Appreciate for the quick and detailed answer! As you said, one of the most scary thing about driving a manual is starting on the hill. Just cant wait to drive my MT car soon!
I hate when companies name their vehicles “sport and GT” and it’s got a crap base engine. Ain’t nothing sporty or grand tourer about a 190hp engine. 🤦🏽♂️Mazda could have easily added this tranny to the turbo with the awd. That would have been a great little car
This base power plant was more fun than I expected but I agree the manual with the AWD and a turbo would be magic.
My 2023TRD off-road had an exceptional back up camera, but my 2024 TRD pro does not
Seems odd...
I miss my MT cars. So I held my hands up to the screen while you were driving. Best 10 minutes ever.
That's awesome. I really appreciate that. Thanks for watching
Complete opposite in Europe with the AT and MT.
Indeed. Amazing the cultural difference
When you are in Pure mode it restricts how much power goes to the air-conditioning (both heating and cooling) - much better to drive in Hybrid and use the Sat-Nav for your journey, then if it's a short journey the car will do it all with the electric motor with no petrol used (unless you really floor it), yet you'll still get full aircon and heating...
Just purchased the 2024 Mazda 3i sedan 6 speed MT Skyactive in this same color Titanium Grey and its awesome to drive!!!
You'll love it everyday
Can you get the sedan with a manual?
@@daveebertz4206 absolutely
You son of a shit you ask this??!??
It’s the best vehicle available in the USA and Canada. It’s not high-tech, it’s not sophisticated, it doesn’t please all the critics and it doesn’t chase rainbows to try to do so and that’s what makes it great.
Very well put.
Thinking about this or the civic si. I live on the northeast USA so maybe the wrx makes more sense ?
The WRX does make a lot of sense in that area. Can't argue AWD.
my grandma had isotoners driving gloves that would match her shoes and dress and her umbrella would match the gloves and dress if it was raining.
Lol. That's awesome
That’s my dream car! But I can’t really justify buying a new car right now as I’m looking to buy a home. I have an old ass Mazda 3 from 07. Great condition and drives really well though. But these new ones are just delicious.
The Gen 1 is a great car. Run that thing into the ground!!! Lol. Good luck with the house.
Oh my godddddd you found the turbo in a 6 speed they told me they didn't make it 😭😭😭😭😭😭
No turbo. I didn't say turbo did I? Unfortunately you can only get the turbo in an automatic because the world is cruel
What state are you in? I like the scenery and roads. The bus stop looks clean, like they are in the UK.
Greater Vancouver area of British Columbia. We have dirty bus stops but I don't shoot videos there. Lol
@@lugnutscarreviewsthats mazda 2.0 or 2.5 turbo?
That is exactly what i ordered, 2 weeks ago. 2025 Mazda 3 Sport GT manual in soul red. Waiting for it.
Excellent choice
2024 3 Premium (sport) 6-speed Soul Red to go with my 2020 Miata RF 6-speed Soul Red...
I have a mach e with standard range battery and rear wheel drive. I live in New York. I’ve had it for over 1 1/2 years, aside from the range loss in cold weather it handles excellent. All wheel drive reduces the range of any of the batteries by about 15%. Since we only get heavy snow a couple of times a year, why lose range all year? I love my Mach e. It has about 14,000 miles on it. I can actually say it’s the best car I’ve ever owned. I’m 75, i’ve owned four top of the line Lincolns as well as many other great cars. None of them comes close to the 23 Mach e premium we now have. The key is to be able to charge at home on a level 2 charger. We’ve made a trip to Miami Florida, and Quebec Canada. No problems using the super chargers, although you have to factor in extra time for charging. The average charge at a super charger is about 30 minutes. With all the convenience and safety features, this is a great car!
Ev car batteries can last hundreds of thousands of miles, not just eight years. There’s actually very little degradation in charge/miles after 200,000 miles and more.
i bought my 2016 4runner trail with kdss brand new, and it is my second 4runner, i can not imagine owning any other kind of vehicle. I've pretty much decked it all out for overlandding and still be my daily driver. with only 54000km on it and very much well looked after, i really have no reason to trade her in on anything. in this day and age where vehicles are becoming so high tech, i myself would rather stick to a vehicle that has proven itself time and time again and still come out on top with a great resale value that is second to none. love my 4runnner.
54k... not even broken in yet. Love that
An eCVT mechanically functions like a brushless motor instead of using transmission oil and a belt.
Thank you. Do you think it's a good design?
@@lugnutscarreviews Based of the technicals, yes. In comparison to power tools going from brushed motors to brushless, it's less work on parts since there's no friction between them and will typically last longer with in the proper range of use.
just wish it was a turbo platform
Now that would be really cool...
THey got rid of the manual Subaru Crosstrek which is just sad. This Mazda seems like a good fit for a manual that will get you 300,000 miles in relative comfort.
Broke my heart when I realized you couldn't order a Crosstrek in manual anymore. This 3 will do many miles as a comfortable daily manual.
Porsche put a 7 speed manual in certain models of 911, don't know if they still do.
I really need to drive one of those. It would be unique i think.
This is 2024
My wife and I shared a '23 CX-9 until recently, and I just got me self a '24 Mazda3 hatchback 2.5L, 6 spd manual. This is just a joy for everyday driving. The first car I bought with my own money was a '03 Mazda3 hatchback 2.3L 5 spd manual. It brought back some good nostalgia and excitement that I felt when I was 18 😂.
Congratulations. Great choice. You're so right. It's an incredible choice for a manual daily.
@lugnutscarreviews Yessir. Enjoyed your review! Thanks for this review!
Intersting, but no bed ???
The bed is small but useful.
The only manual available by me cost around $33000 which is way too much for me. Besides that it's really a nice car.
At that price point you have to look at a Civic Si. Too bad the manual isn't available in cheaper models
Having a hard time deciding between this, civic hatchback manual with the 2.0 NA, or the civic si. Such a hard decision.
All 3 good choices. Civic Si is top of the list and totally dailyable. 3 is a strong runner up. Great drive
What is this thing
Lol. Its the image displayed when you open the door of a Range Rover
I’m debating between this and type r. Si have sunroof. That’s a huge for me. Type R is much faster but more expensive 🤔🤔🤔
The Si you can daily and love it everyday. The Type R does have way more power but I think it makes you pay for it. Nevertheless I have a Type R coming up and I'm excited to give it a thrashing
I just ordered one of these 3 days ago here in Vancouver. I will have it in 2 weeks
Awesome. You won't be disappointed. That's quick delivery time. Glad to see you don't have to wait too long.
@@lugnutscarreviews They happened to be getting one in that time period so I guess it was luck
I have the '18 six speed and love it. Easy around town but when I venture out it shines. Excellent review. 4th gear above 3000 on the highway is massive fun.
Tyvm. It's so great to wring out a proper manual at just the right moment.
I have an '18 as well & SO enjoy being engaged in the drive. Have right at...almost 50k on it.
@lugnutscarreviews I grew up driving aircooled and watercooled VWs, then a Toyota 5 speed truck and then a Volvo 240 5 speed sedan. Most people don't realize that the stick shift is truly a different car.
This is way better value than the TRD Pro.
Agreed. At some point your just paying for badges.
its actually a good car to own because most of the opportunistic car thieves dont know how to drive a stick anymore!
That's very true. Such a simple and elegant solution. Lol
A few years ago, Dad came out in the early morning to find that someone had broken into the back door and taken Mom's keys. He walked outside and thought at first thought Mom's car was gone, but wait, there it was sitting in the street at the end of the driveway, driver's side door open and out of gas...
Bought a 23 TRD off road in lunar rock last year. Ordered it because I thought it was the last year…. It’s my pre retirement vehicle…love it. Will drive it and maintain it myself forever…. Only the heated steering wheel is only on the sides and not top 360…. Ohh well still love it.
Good for you. With the new one coming your timing was impeccable. Enjoy!
I did the same. 2024 TRD off road premium in solar octane. I did the black out package, black wheels and rock sliders.
I drive a manual 2016 corolla that I bought new. My car is almost at the end of its life where I have a long commute and there's a lot of kms on it. Where I live rust is a huge issue and cars dont have a long life. I'm looking into getting a new vehicle and I'm so sad there's so little manual options available. Not only is it more fun but we get a lot of snow where I live and it's excellent in the winter. I'm considering this vehicle but it's more expensive than I'd like. I wish they still made base model manuals.
I miss the base model manual as well. Mazda currently only offers this peach in a GT trim which, as you pointed out, ain't cheap. Such a shame. Good luck with your search for a replacement.
How does his Trd-off road have the same ac unit as a TRD-pro? The climate control
Is it supposed to have a different one?
@@lugnutscarreviews Yes. It’s supposed t have the dials as the SR5. Also, you have the TRD pro 3 way cameras. Very strange. Where did you buy this model from? I’m so curious. And what was the price ? You got hooked up my friend!
How can u test drive a car and report review without knowing the torque 😢
Most of the time I know such details. Sometimes it just escapes me while filming. Thanks for watching.
My daily is a ND2 Miata manual, love driving to work and back in it, and prefer it to any automatic in traffic. My first car was a 2007 mazda protege 5dr A/T, loved it and always used the manual mode shifters but made me desire learning manual. Then got a 2011 hyundai accent M/T and 1995 miata M/T. Traded both for a lexus convertible A/T for best of both worlds, but after 4 years I deeply missed having a manual. Then went NC miata then ND miata which I plan to hang on to.
That's a great car journey. I love that you keep circling back to the thing you loved the most. Keep shifting
Best car review I have seen in a long time
Damn... thank you very much. Appreciate it
Thanks. I needed that so now the only options for manual that I can get in a 4 door car is the Mazda 3 and the Honda Civic, would look into the Nissan Sentra but the manual option is only in Canada.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Manual cars are not long for this world. Very sad.
As far as I know Kia Forte gt , Volkswagen Jetta and Subaru wrx are options
