I’m late to this video, but you and Trendy were AMAZING! I’m from the U.S. and have been riding and competing horses for about 30 years now. My focus has always been on doing show jumpers, hunters (it’s an American thing. Very straightforward course of jumps meant to look like obstacles you would find while out hunting, all on related distances. Judged on the horse. The aim is for the rider to have such invisible aids that it appears that the horse is doing everything perfectly on its own), and Equitation (similar to a hunter course, but more technical. Judged on the rider’s position and performance, and ability to make the horse perform well over the course of jumps). I’ve never done eventing, but watching you ride, as well as other British eventers on TH-cam (found you from Megan Elphick’s channel), makes me want to try eventing for real. I’ve learned a lot of basic dressage from the trainers I’ve had over the years who understood the importance of flatwork, so I think I could pull off lower level tests, as all the BE 90 and 100 dressage videos I’ve watched are movements I’ve already learned and do regularly with my horses. I actually am able to do good lateral work on all of my horses. I have NO idea how to do piaffe or passage, and I’ve done the majority of my lateral work in trot, so I’d have to practice my shoulder ins, half passes, etc in the canter if I ever made it to a higher level in eventing. I’ve played over a number of cross country jumps throughout the years (I even built a small cross country course on my boarding/training facility…I believe you Brits call it a “livery”. I’ve had lots of fun galloping my show jumpers around my mini course for fun over the years, just because I believe in cross training, and keeping horses and riders from getting bored jumping the SAME courses in the SAME arenas all of the time. So I have a small 20’x40’ grass dressage arena and my little cross country course (highest jumps I have out there are maybe 1.05 m, since all of us are used to jumping obstacles which fall when you hit them. So none of us are confident enough to tackle larger solid fences! But watching you flying around these bigger, WAY more technical cross country courses just looks SO fun, that I’ve decided to find myself an eventing trainer and give it a go for real. Why not add another (much more dangerous) equestrian sport at the age of 47? 😂 Of course I will never get anywhere close to the levels you ride (I would actually wet myself just walking the higher level cross country courses that you fly around with your horses, while managing to make it all look effortless!). But you have definitely been a big part of inspiring me to attempt to step into the eventing world! Keep up your AMAZING riding on your fantastic horses. My mare was not an outdoor horse. She'd bang the gate until you let her in at night! What an absolute nightmare. What had occurred in the previous month?? Anything unusual or remarkable like other vet visits etc? I am so pleased she is on the mend now. Enjoy uni.
