Swimming Analysis - Lesley
In this swim analysis, we review Lesley’s stroke and highlight her strong progression since May, noting improved stability, better core engagement, and a more propulsive kick.
Key Improvements:
- Stability: Head wobble is gone, and your core is driving your hips to roll.
- Kick: Much more propulsive, helping reduce resistance.
- Left Arm: Your high elbow in the catch phase has minimized width issues, leading to better body alignment and reduced lateral movement.
Catch Phase:
The right-side catch is improving, especially with the ONE ARM FREESTYLE drill. You’re setting up well in the stroke's rear phase but need to hit a 90-degree elbow bend for better water hold.
On the left side, although your elbow position is good, the path is too wide, dragging your upper body laterally and causing a midline crossover. We’ll focus on achieving the same 90-degree bend as on the right side.
Hand Exit:
Currently, you're losing propulsion by releasing the water too early. We need to maintain hold until the end of the stroke for better momentum. Rear sculling drills will help reinforce this.
Timing:
Your timing is slightly off, with the pulling arm engaging too early while the opposite arm is still recovering. We’ll use the catch-up drill to adjust timing so your stroke becomes more fluid and efficient, maximizing velocity.

    Listing all the muscles is no help with the timing which [I think] is what’s really the main issue for effective kicking - can you do one on timing?

    I'm not an expert by any means, but when I watch people swim like this (there are a lot of them at my pool) it seems to me they should really work on balance in the water. They seem to be fighting the water vs working with it.

    Well, noticed the 'snaking' through the water right away. I was thinking that the swimmer was cranking his head around farther to the side to create a deeper well/trough to breath through. Wasn't sure if the cross over was the cause or not.

      Thank you for the message Keith, great pick up on the palm leading on entry with high finger catch. We are currently working on a few hand entry drills with a snorkel on to help with this issue. hopefully next footage with this athlete we can see a great improvement.

    Excellent thank you. Can you do more such videos - like the ones /drills on rotation n breathing, improving breathing techniques, kicking that can be done without flippers or snorkels but just a float kickboard/ or none at all.
