The Dhamma of Michelangelo | Ajahn Jayasāro
มุมมอง 2.1K12 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา
In this talk, Ajahn Jayasāro speaks about how we often find our way to peace in practice not by striving for a state we have yet to experience, but by letting go of all that is not peace, just as a sculptor chips away all the parts of a stone which are not the form he hopes to carve. Additionally, Tan Ajahn describes how, over time, practice makes us more sensitive to goodness, among other them...

I think there is too much confusion over the 4 stages of enlightenment. Nobody cares to detail the precise experiences. Everybody beats around the bush with indirect and vague descriptions, and that is not helpful. For example, one attains to a state beyond all material, beyond body+mind+world+universe+spacetime so that there is only awareness and emptiness. Not even meditative space exists. What has that person accomplished? Anything? One does it again the next day, and the next. Has one accomplished anything further?

Sadhu, that was very valuable dhamma teaching as I came from christian background. From Taan ajahn Tejadhammo experience ,I can look back to my experience ,my faith in the budha which give me inspiration till nowaday came from the thought of loosing of the mothers and babies lives.Everytime I got cold feet to go to work. When emergency happened ,the case seem to be good ending which was impossible but no prove ,only know by ourself that meditation and pray did support me to have wisdom to help safty for babies and mothers so many times. That is faith which unable to explain but I know inside of me by myself. Sadhu and anumodhana u all for your teaching and sharing experience 🙇🙇🙇

With all respect to Tan Ajahn and the Thai forest tradition, his teachings on the mind as the pilot of a spacecraft and Nibbana as the purified mind element are practically identical with Advaita. They sound a lot like modified eternalism, and I believe their proliferation might be harmful to the Dhamma. Again, nothing against Tan Ajahn personally 🙏🙏🙏

Thank you, Iz. Language does get difficult in such areas, and I myself worry at times the conversation can get problematic or misunderstood. I removed that part of the clip, in case it might lead to other misunderstandings.

I've heard this or similar accusation of some other respected Thai Forest monks but I never really understood what the problem was. I'm curious to hear what Ajahn Suchart has to say. Could you summarize it here? I know it's too much to ask but I would appreciate it. To me they talk about the state of the mind after nibbana but before death not that there is an eternal mind. Practically speaking to reach nibbana so much work on the mind is required that it essentially changes, i.e. gets purified. Well, the mind doesn't disappear/cease to exist after nibbana. It only no longer creates karma. What kind of mind is that? It has to be something. I'm not opposed or afraid to discuss this topic. Those Ajahns have been skilled and learned, their understanding of the dhamma deep, I don't think they would make the mistake of equating nibbana with an eternal mind. The Buddha never said or implied that. Anyway. 🙏🏼

Like Ahahn Suchart I do not use Buddho as my focus object. I often utilise the chant of Itipiso or a focus on Anatta (not self). On my last trip to Thailand I spent time at Wat Yan and was privileged to experience the benefit of his wisdom. The sounds of the dogs take me back to the call to evening and morning chanting!🙏🙏
