That’s a good idea. I’m curious now too. Although it’s not a fresh engine and has been run like this for years.

So I measured the ring gap,it was .040. Kind of big if you ask me. I wonder if it was initially set up for nitrous?

Yes,it’s an internally balanced engine. I replaced it because when your car is quicker than 11.50,you’re required to run an sfi approved damper. NHRA rules.

Ah gotcha. Just wondering if there was maybe balance issue. Those KB pistons aren’t very great and do break, but the con rods….that is nuts!

Yes,it took quite an effort to get the bends just right.😬😂

@@deankallstrom1968 I’m still amused by the fram oil filter comment. My hemis all have fram. I have 3 nascar hemis from pettys and owned others over the years. ( the Olympia beer charger is running my hemi) never a problem with fram filters. 😂

Yeah,I’ve used all the brands of oil filters. I’ve also heard of Fram filter issues. This was the premium Fram HP1 for racing (for whatever that’s worth lol). None of this damage is filter related (had excellent oil pressure until the end) and the bearings were really nice. But at this point,it is what it is. Lol. Fyi,Napa gold filters are made by Wix.thx for watching!

@@BigBoxDodge2020 I have fram on all my hemis. Never had an issue. I have nascar and pro stock and street ones. Few of mine run the nascar scavenge pump systems with the big fram filters. I personally have never had anyone I know have a problem with fram

I personally rarely see a thrown rod in a 440. They’ll start knocking before that. This one and MadMax regularly seen 6500 rpm repeatedly. I stopped doing that because I wasn’t going any quicker with my current combination-so it was pointless. Although I haven’t taken the short block apart yet (hopefully today),we do believe that it was the cast hypereutectic pistons that came apart and caused this. I bought this car turn key,so I don’t know how many passes were on this 440. This Barracuda has been a race car for 30+ years though. We’ll see.

A friend of mine(very experienced) suggested that the carnage started with the pistons. As to what caused the destruction,we haven’t pulled it apart yet to see. I consistently shifted this at 6000 rpm. As to how much power it was making? Id guess 475-525 maybe. The car weighs around 3200(with me in it) and gas run a best of 11.06@120mph. There’s a math formula out there that’ll calculate horsepower with those measurements.thx for watching.

@@lucastaggart7618 Is it going to be a race engine? I use mopar performance stuff not others with matching springs and have never had a problem. Mancini racing has damn good engine kits. Get a mopar engine book it is priceless.

I'm using a solid roller cam, crane iron rockers, big valves, ported 906 heads etc. I have decided after seeing this video and doing research about these pistons that I'm going to buy forged pistons because for me it's just not worth the risk. Where can I find the mopar book?

If I had spent $$$$$ on the engine,yes I would be devastated. The complete car was a really good deal and I got two years of racing out of it. The short block Im putting in,is fresh out of the machine shop and again, I got an extremely good deal on it(from a buddy). I bought it not because I needed it at the time,but because I thought I could make use of it at some point. And here we are.lol
