    Hi. What's the bed of your etching press made of? I've seen beds made of some reinforces resin material and steel. The press I'm interested in buying has only 3mm steel plate as the bed - I'd prefer something thicker. Can wood also be used as the bed/ and or sandwiched underneath that steel plate? I'll also speak to the manufacturer to find out, but If you answer, I'll know what to expect when I talk to someone who 'knows more and won't hesitate to use it against me' ;p Regards, Greg

    • @batswbennett
      @batswbennett 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The bed is phenolic, a thermo-setting resin-based material. 1/2 inch thick. You could try a steel bed or wood, but this resin plate works very well.

    This Is so precious! I didn't know about monotypes, its so misterious!! I wonder if its posible to make It with oil and turpentine but printed by hand, i know turpentine makes the oil dry faster so maybe the transfer would not be well if its not with the machine printer you have. What Is the diferente you find of using ink for engraving or oil? I apologize if you dont understand me, i only speak spanish. Thank you for shearing your art procesos.

    hello, amazing print! What can we do if we dont have a press?

    • @batswbennett
      @batswbennett ปีที่แล้ว

      Lay your printmaking paper gently onto the plate, centered so you'll have an even margin of white space around the monotype. Lay one hand on the paper to hold it firmly in place on the plate, and with the other hand, begin rubbing the back of the paper with a spoon, or baren or some other pressure-inducing item. Practice! Good luck.

    • @batswbennett
      @batswbennett ปีที่แล้ว

  • @agneshosni4787
    @agneshosni4787 ปีที่แล้ว

    Must you use etching ink? Anything else ?

    • @batswbennett
      @batswbennett ปีที่แล้ว

      I use oil based inks and oil paint, almost exclusively currently, to achieve the results here; you can experiment with whatever mediums you choose, of course.

  • @bevjean51
    @bevjean51 ปีที่แล้ว

    what are you thinning your ink with?

    • @batswbennett
      @batswbennett ปีที่แล้ว

      Turpentine. Folks who have an allergy to turps, of course, can try other solvents that break down oil based mediums. I experiment also with alternative paint thinners, like citrus-based and other green solvents. Turpenoid, of course is a standard option. I prefer actual gum turpentine, its effectiveness is unparalleled.

    Are you using a rolling pin to blot the paper? If so, any particular type or weight?

    • @batswbennett
      @batswbennett ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I use a simple kitchen rolling pin, but you can use a larger, wider, metal or wood roller. I'm not a stickler for the rolling pin, some people are. If it's use to simply blot, I don't think you need to spend a lot of money on a rolling pin. Thank you for your question, and I'm always open to new suggestions for video tutorials.

      Meat cutters/butchers/cheese mongers traditionally wrapped their product in a waxed “butcher” paper and then wrote on the paper the name/price, if that helps. They believe that European grocery stores/markets still wrap & mark meat/cheese this way 😊
