As someone who wants to start watching the LOTR movies where do i start? Are the hobbit trilogy and the lotr trilogy the same? Where do i start movie wise from beginning to end?

Thank you for bringing up the flying wing, that is an excellent point. The two reasons I already knew was that 1. Without Indy they get the real piece and probably destroy Marion in the process and 2. If Indy isn't on the island the Nazis still get the Ark but because Indy presumably used what little communication equipment it had to reach out to an allied boat they were able to get it to the US.

My 2 cents to this discussion. The plane was not a transport. It was a fighter bomber. Therefore, there is no room for the ark. In my opinion, the ark was just there at the airfield for no obvious reason. Spielberg probably choose that plane for ascetic reasons only. Indy did find the ark, and the nazis took it from him. The rest of the movie is of him trying to get it back. Without indy the ark would not have been found. Without indy trying to get the ark back. it could remain lost after the nazis opened it and melted. The ark would never ended up in the wear house.

The thing to remember is that indy is not James bond.he s not sent on a mission.he s more in the vein of john mclain in die hard,where he s more incidental to the story,and has to use his wits and intelligence to survive. Haven't seen the movie in a while, but wasn't Indy the one who found the Ark? If not, he did figure out that crucial staff clue. Also, I'm pretty sure they would have killed that lady back at the bar if Indy hadn't rescued her. That's really what archeology is: to be on the periphery of history rather than actually affecting it.

I don't think the shows writers were really trying to ruin Raiders. I think a comedy tv show used a joke that would have a profound effect on the characters by spoiling something sacred to them.

Not only did Indy have no impact on his story but he extended the war. Had Beloc flown it back to Berlin it would have been opened in front of Hitler killing him and probably ending the war. Also the ark gets lost in the warehouse which is the modern equivalent of the sand storm, that is the point of that scene.... That the arc must remain lost for the sake of humanity.
