Les Cyclopes - J.P. Rameau - Metal Guitar Cover
This is me trying to cover classical music for a little bit of a change (and to give myself a nice summer challenge). Needless to say, that was bruuuuutal. I don't know which part was the thoughest : getting the sweeps clean, the horribly confusing tapping section or maybe that one fast picking part at the 1min48 mark with no breaks... Tower of Heaven used to be my toughest cover, but this takes the crown fair and square. Recording the leads in short chunks made the whole thing feasible, but I sincerely hope I never have to play something like this live ever lol, leave that to Dragonforce if they want.
I don't think I mentionned it before on these descriptions, but I'm currently studying musicology at my local university & about to start my third year. Last semester we had a pretty interesting class on baroque music history, and our teacher played us the entirety of Les Cyclopes by J.P. Rameau. I was initially like « this would be absolutely impossible on guitar », which slowly turned into a « ...but what if... » over the weeks. Really, what a cool piece. It has nothing to envy to the likes of Moonlight Sonata, Hungarian Rhapsody or any other of these well-known, super technical keyboard classical pieces, but for some reason its a more « under the radar » kind of piece it seems. Baroque music in general has some fantastic instrumental work, prolly my favourite of all classical music movements actually. if you like OSTs like Castlevania and Shovel Knight, I highly recommend you go pop some baroque harpsichord playlist right now cause its exactly the same style of writing.

I know the focus of a song like that should be the leads, but I reaaaaallly wanted the rhythm guitar to pop more even clearly than before, even if it meants sacrificing some of the bass and lead presence. The mix is a bit on the treblier side, but I'm satsified with how it sounds overall. I may need to revisit the way I eq the new guitar in future songs in order to get the harsness more in control though.
Anyways, thats one toughie done. Took longer that I would've wanted, but whatevs. I'm thinking about making some new original song for my next upload, its been a while since I've created anything fresh. See you next time for that !

Oh yeah! I didn't listen to a lot of Kikuo's work, but I liked Aishite and Gomenne in particular (I was a dubstep kid before getting into metal, so this kind of instrumental work on Gomenne is right up my alley). I should probably listen to more, if there's other songs I should check out please recommend me! As for covering, I don't know if I'll revisit vocaloid in the future, but if I do I'll definitely include one of these.
