Getting up close and personal. After 2 years, I am pulling the engine out to reseal everything and check bearings. The vehicle is a 1997 K1500. This engine had a serious intake manifold failure, causing gallons of coolant to go into the lifter valley. what tires you running?
Need to replace my head gasket too on my 97 k1500 5.7. I’m nervous to do it. Where did you get the paper/info the the torque specs for the head bolts?

I used a big socket and a hammer

Did you need thicker piston rods or is this stock?
I started with stock rods and pistons, and built the engine with speedfactory rods a couple years ago
1997 5.7L I have crazy oil pressure reading for more than 4 yrs., yet I have driven more that 5,000 miles during this period of time. Engine runs fine, I think GM is to damn lazy not responding to this problem, considering the span of so many years the truck engine has this FREAK'n problem.

Those heads are bad about cracking. Get them checked, may save you some grief. Nice Video!!
How many horsepower?
So how does this work? Do you empty out the powder underneath trough the plug in the side of the block? Do you drill holes into it to allow coolant passing?
Yea you would put your headgasket on after this and trace out your holes and drill them out.

hey, excuse me, one question, after two years did you open the engine again? What condition was the block guard you made in?
I have not had to pull the head off yet. I am sure it is in fine condition, it is a tried and true method. Nothing has ever been in the coolant.

Man. I definitely don’t know much about this, but it seems like that wear wouldn’t be enough for 0-5psi. I suppose if all the mains and bearings were worn, it’s possible, but I would kinda expect one to be a smoking gun and spun or something. Are you doubly sure it’s not losing oil somewhere else? Also, before you take all the crank out, wouldn’t you need to resize all of your rods when regrinding the crank? Might be time ahead to pull the whole motor.
Motor is coming out. Hoping to regrind crank and put appropriate bearings in. Motor does make 40 psi when cold but drops when hot. I think as soon as the oil thins it is just leaking out the grooves in the crank. Entire valvetrain was gone through last winter including lifters. I refuse to let this truck die!
Oil pickup tube o-ring, it's what was causing this same issue on my truck
@@montsmatic crankshaft has nothing to do with oil pressure. cam bearings do

Carb clean, wd40 and a wire wheel

I have the same engine and the oil pressure on my truck at high idle is at 40psi, but at a red light, at idle it drops to 20psi. On your video it looks like ur truck does the same, is that normal?
That can be more normal, but my oil pressure issues have gotten worse, I am rebuilding the engine now. 20 psi is fine at idle.
How much power did this make, and what did you rev to
That's cool.....but I live in a desert where it's currently 98 degrees at night......I prefer it have AC lol
I prefer AC too, thinking about doing an ac kit for this summer to make it more fun to drive.
The 5.7 vortec is one of the easiest engines to work on but you still have to be organized. Pay attention to what you're doing and have a good time knowing you did it yourself 👍👍👍👍
Did u pull the oil pan and clean that too or did u do a oil flush
I flushed all the oil. There ended up being crankshaft damage from the engine running on water for a short period.
@@montsmatic thanks for the reply and I hope I don't have the same issue but I'm sure probably do since I had to drive it home with water in my oil

That car has a solid low 11 high 10 potential needs a driver mod 😂. Sick build tho been wondering if it’s worth it to devcon the d16 or just send it with the vitara build itself.
Im sure a stock engine it would be fine for less than 10 psi boost
