Senior Manx Grand Prix Live Timing Commentary 2024
Tried to stream live, but it failed. Anyway, make a brew and watch race progress or close your eyes and listen as if you're at the grandstand. 😉
Having finished in second and third in the previous two years, Daniel Ingham claimed victory in Monday afternoon’s Mylchreests Group Senior Manx Grand Prix race. The Melton Mowbray rider taking a start to finish win over Chris Cook by 35.394 seconds with Sam Johnson completing the podium finishers in third.
Getting underway at 3.45pm, Ingham (Castings Technology Yamaha) grabbed the lead in the early stages, his lead over Johnson (Ron Soar/Dynamic Access Suzuki) through Glen Helen on the opening lap 5.5 seconds. Jacque Foley (TPS/JF76 Yamaha) was a further 1.9 seconds back in third as Julien Cregniot (Team ILR Yamaha), Cook (Kawasaki) and newcomer Johnny Stewart (Stewart Racing Kawasaki) slotted into fourth to sixth, less than two seconds covering the four riders. One of the pre-race favourites, Maurizio Bottalico, was already out though having retired at Greeba Bridge.
Cook moved up to second at Ballaugh Bridge, but all the time Ingham was pulling away and round Ramsey Hairpin for the first time, his lead over Cook stood at an ominous-looking 15.2 seconds. Johnson was still well in touch in third, only 2.3 seconds behind Cook. Foley was now fourth ahead of Cregniot and Michael Gahan (Newline Elite Group Yamaha), Stewart dropping back to seventh.
An opening lap of 118.762mph saw Ingham stretch his lead over Cook (116.408mph) to a commanding 23.13 seconds with the latter now ten seconds clear of Johnson (115.416mph). Cregniot (115.802mph) moved up to fourth, 1.6 seconds ahead of Gahan (114.924mph) and Foley (114.776mph), just three seconds covering the three riders.
Continuing to press on at the head of the field, a final lap of 118.868mph gave Ingham his maiden Manx GP success with his eventual winning margin over Cook, who lapped at 117.606mph to claim his first MGP podium, 35.394 seconds. Johnson (116.895mph) was another first-timer on the podium in third.
Frenchman Cregniot (116.763mph) finished in a fine fourth ahead of Gahan (115.429mph) with newcomer Stewart (115.852mph) taking an excellent sixth place. Dath, Foley, Lancelot Unissart (Basomba Racing Yamaha) and Ryan Whitehall (WR Racing Yamaha) completed the top ten.

So many delays and cancellations this week at the MGP due to the terrible weather. Many say we should revert to the two week schedule from the past, but that might put a strain on sufficient marshal numbers required for each event.

The Southern 100 EVF solo championship races was one of the best and closest ever on the Billown circuit, Castletown. Davey Todd got a great start followed closely by Michael Dunlop who tried so hard to take the lead but just couldn't outpace the Milwawkee BMW. MD tried one final hit on the last corner on the last lap by outbraking Todd, but he ran too wide and Todd held on to finish first. Goo...

Every rider who rides in the IOM is a true great for me Many thanks Manxman for the footage
Nice words, Terry. Thank you.
It proves the reduced days at the Manx is farcical if the weather turns.
Reduced days will only work if they revert to 3 races. Lightweight, junior and senior. Keep TT riders out of the mgp.
@@Manxmann Agree totally, 8 days was never going to work with all those races being dependant on good weather and no red flags. This years TT was the same, extra races and dodgy weather don’t mix. Organisers need to learn from this.
The island's micro climate strikes again..... such a pity. Hopefully the Racers will see some action soon.
No "classics" in this race boys! It's a joke!
The young Lass has talent , the girl is good!
Some of the time, Tom. 😉
Ah thanks Millie & Dad.... this vid and the other (the paddock walkabout) brought back the fondest of memories; times spent watching the TT and the Manx, with my then very young daughter Alex. Alex was probably the same age as your little cutie Millie. This year Alex was 30 and signed up to be a marshal for the Manx, unfortunately Alex got sick and couldn’t go. Thanks Manxmann for the vids and Millie’s great commentary, she’s a cert to be a Manx Radio start line interviewer one day.
She's looking very proud of herself, reading your comment, Steve . Thank you.
Exciting stuff.
I've only watched bits of this tonight (it looks very good btw), but was this the documentary shown on BBC? I remember one from when I was a young boy, but I had it in my head it was from around 1984.
I'm not sure. I asked a New Zealand lady's permission to share it, so don't know it's origin. It is very interesting.
@@Manxmann thank you! I will definitely have a watch sometime.
Parish on the soda siphon , legend .
Excellent 👍
R.i.p 🙏🏾
Great video , Hope the weather picks up , kind regards Arnie...
Thanks, Arnie. The weather is causing big problems. I feel sorry for the fans camping, the marshals with no free time, and of course the man that spends time and money building his bike in the garden shed to use up his annual holiday to race in the MGP only to find he's left in the cold playing 2nd fiddle to TT superstars being paid big money to join the classic superbike mgp. I don't like it. Both the TT and MGP is too intense now. And the organisers attitude is, if you don't like it, don't come.
@@Manxmann I totally agree , not seen a TT since its worst race ever 1989 1300 production, and not watched the MGP since 1994 , I would never dream of missing a North west 200 , or the southern 100 however , mass start racing is far superior, but ask any competitor they will tell you the TT is best , as there is a lot of prestige in a mountain course victory , the final nail in the coffin for me was when riders set off individually rather than in pairs , it's not easy to watch without a secure AM radio signal in areas of intermittent coverage, and is easy to lose track of competitors outside of the top ten without radio and stopwatch , in brief I am probably one of the only manxmen you will meet that does not favor timetrial racing , the North West 200 for example is fielded by the world's top road racing competitors , and once you experience its magic as a spectator it will never leave you , and only a couple of months later there is the southern 100 followed by Armoy , also not forgetting the season opener the Cookstown 100 prior to these other events , any way " what do I know" 😆 keep well yessir , kind regards Arnie ...
@@Manxmann i can't believe the revised schedule for this year's classic junior MGP , only ONE !! lap , when the last competitor reaches Ballaugh the front runner will be at Brandish or Cronk Na Mona , this is no more than a glorified parade lap , an insult to those that have invested time and money in this entry , what is to happen if god forbid there is a red flag incident, will the winner be judged on the speed covered along Sulby straight, or in the judges opinion nicest paint job , how will it be done , it won't be wheel to wheel racing as we were used to with Bob Heath and Bill Swallow in the good old days that's for sure , what a mess ! Hope all goes well and safely though and look forward to a better meeting for all that wish to compete and spectate in the future, kind regards Arnie ..... 🚩
Such bad luck ❤️☘️☘️☘️

Rest In Eternal Peace Louis 🙏🇮🇪😢
So sad to hear when something like this happens 😢
Very sad.
This is so bad, so so hard for his Sarah and the people closest to him. I appreciate all you do with your channel my friend.
Thank you.
Thank you for this tribute Manxman, it's greatly appreciated. Whenever a roadracer pays the ultimate price, it inevitably leaves a void that our wonderful community acutely feels. By you expressing some of your thoughts and feelings about Louis on here, it helps us to start to come to terms with the tragic incident; and - most importantly - to think about the person that has so suddenly left us all behind. May he rest peacefully now. ❤
Thank you for your kind words. It will take a while to know exactly what happened until further investigations and the inquest takes place. Our thoughts at the moment are with his family and friends as they try to come to terms with their loss. Thanks again.

No matter what people say against this racing, on the island. Very sad to hear it... But it's racing,we do it because we can and love it . Same as potholing...can be very dangerous....but deeply rewarding. My thoughts are with the family. RIP sir ..
That’s the sounds we like, crisp and working 👌👌

Thanks for the correction.
Bless you though he did pronounce his name Lewis over here he actually loved to be called Louis and his step son always referred to him as Louis a long with the Irish side of his family. So either way is ok. X
Horrible.
Glad you clarified this. I thought we'd lost the rider in the first accident. Once again shows it doesn't matter where you crash on this course as was this terrible outcome too Louis R.I.P.
