My name's Andy and I've created this channel to share my way of living. It's been 12 years abroad living/working in many countries and recently the past 3 years by bicycle. I have a unique way of living and would like to share it with everyone.
Some things you can expect from my channel are: how to live on a low budget, how to live sustainably and how to live healthy. You will learn what it is like living out of a tent and traveling to foreign countries on a bicycle, meeting the real people and at the same time, get to see and visit some amazing sites in the comfort of your own home :)
I hope you enjoy the journey as much as I do!
I am currently based wherever my tent is.

Sorry for the very late post! 3 years later! I plan on catching everyone up on what's been going on for the past 3 years. Until that video comes out, please enjoy the time Andy and I had before the first official lockdown from the infamous covid19 back in March of 2020. In this video, Andy and I ventured into some extremely steep jungle roads to arrive at our first living root bridge. We set up...
Cycle Touring Bangladesh (Race against Corona) Part 2 of 2

As we cycled to the border in a race against the clock as the borders would be closing for good as the corona virus was about to reach the state of pandemic, Andy got stopped by the Bangladeshi police and said he couldn't pass because his e-visa wasn't valid anymore...will we be saying goodbye??? We had some amazing hospitality thanks to www.warmshowers.org Not only did we get our bikes service...

Going into a new country always has it's challenges. Straight away at the border crossing we faced corruption head on as the guy doing our visa short changed us. Get the play by play from Andy and I on how it went down! Trying to find a place to wild camp was difficult as Bangladesh is so populated. We went to the locals for help, but were rejected many times due to our religion. This was somet...

I asked everyone if they felt uncomfortable being stared at by people because in India it is so common. Check out what happened when Andy and I thought we had found a hidden wild camp spot. Have you ever felt a bit uncomfortable with people just staring at you for extended periods of time? It's normal when you're a foreigner traveling in India. However, multiply that by 100 when you're having to repair a flat tire! This area of India seems to be primarily Muslim and one of the families that took us in was having a 4-day wedding ceremony going on. We popped in for a bit of an appea...

Get an idea of what it's like on a daily basis bike touring: not knowing where you'll end up...meeting the real people...taking in the culture...having to barter for food (trust me it was not an easy battle in this country). On this epic journey across India, I team up with a cyclist from England named Andy too. The mental toughness of cycling through India has gotten the best of me and according to my cycling partner, him as well. However, together, this battle would become more of love than a hate for India. It has changed my perspective from when I was cycling alone. It's worth the watch! Look out for: - A Jagua...

After a long and much needed rest from all the chaos from only a 3-day-cycle from Jodhpur, I hit the road to make it to my next destination of Bundi, where I would meet up with another cyclist to continue my route through India. It was a much more enjoyable ride as I wasn't harassed by anyone. I interviewed the owner of Musafir hostel. Check out what he had to say about the following below. ~ W...
Cycle Touring India: Jodhpur to Udaipur "Being Harassed for Money$$”

Undoubtedly my most scenic ride through India since I entered the country. However, it came with consequences. The small, winding roads led to big buses knocking me off the road to a terrible person cursing at me and threatening me for money. I had my friends translate what he said. I obviously didn't know at the moment what he was saying, but I could hear it in his tone of voice, which led me ...

See some of the struggles I have faced on a daily basis in the backroads of India in Rajasthan. Bike Touring can be amazing, but also challenging in so many distinct ways.

I am from Denizli. We are also natives of the Aegean region. Before going to a city, people immediately check whether there is a sea or not, otherwise they do not go there. However, Denizli is a historical, forested, mountainous and cultural city. If you get bored in Denizli, you can enter the forest area 10-20 minutes away. You can also visit many cultural areas such as the Temple of Apollo, the God of Wine, Leodicea, Hierapolis, Tripolis and Colossae Ancient City. There are also magnificent waterfalls and lakes hidden in every corner of Denizli. You can feel like you are in the Alps at Karcı Mountain, Honaz Mountain, Akdağ, Babadağ and Sandras Mountain.
Where's cameraman's bicycle 😀
I’ve been asked that question a lot!
Still bike touring?
I've taken some time away from touring ever since Covid happened. Hoping to get back to it sometime in the future.

Hey dude, in hindsight is it worth it to cycle through pakistan? Im planning my europe to asia trip and with all the police drama i hear from people im doubting going there
Honestly bro the short answer is no. If I could do it again, I'd go overland China and keep extending my visa every 30 days depending on what visa you get (I didn't know that was possible at the time). I put up with a lot of bull shit that I could go on and on about, yet met so many caring individuals and received many random acts of kindness and generous hospitality. I also got hit 4 times by reckless drivers (only one road coming from China) and I even got slapped in the back of the head by the bus assistant when I took up a tiny lane on purpose so I wouldn't get pushed off the non-existent shoulder to a terrible fall. The scenery is stunning, but only in the north and maybe worth a visit without the bicycle. One day the police is feeding you lunch and the next they're holding you hostage in a hotel room with 4 dudes with machine guns. Don't worry it's standard procedure they say. Would be better with a partner in crime to handle all the weirdness otherwise, I'd skip it.
I hope that the Persian Kingdom of Afghanistan will regain the lands and road of the Karakoram, Jatral, and the Kalash tribe,,,, because for years it has been under the occupation of Pakistan (West Bengal). This is the Durand line and half of the land of Wakhan has disappeared.
Is it true you have to stay in a hotel every 3 days in order to get registered on the Uzbek tourist tracking system? Brilliant video!
I registered three times in a month in my hostels in Nukus, Bukhara and Samarkand. When I crossed the border to Tajikistan I just handed him the papers. I had lost several of them also. I don’t think it matters.
HELLO WILL YOU COME AGAIN TO TAJIKISTAN FOR VISIT?IF YOU COME I WANT TO SHOW YOU SOME GOOD PLACES.ALSO I WEANT TO VISIT BY BIKE WITH YOU.

So, the reason people stare at you in India is because they are in awe seeing white folks and on top of that you're on a bicycle with a ton of luggage which makes it even more confusing for them. This is because we consider white folks superior here and considering you were taking back roads in these areas, you're more prone to such confusion because they don't see no one travelling in these areas. They want to communicate but again it's not possible for either of you. The best way out of these situations is to just take a selfie if someone is asking and just saying a thank you and if someone asks for money, saying that I don't have no money that's why I'm travelling on a cycle or using things like google translate to explain because it is very difficult for them to understand your accent. I totally get the situations you're in and even I'll have to go through such things I try camping in the remote parts. Keep up the good work dude. Trying to follow your footsteps. Landed on one of your videos searching for people who have gone from Jaipur to Pushkar on a bike.

Hi there Can you please give me directions from Turkey to Azerbaijan and then to Kazakhstan, did you go by own car , Thanks
YEAHHHH ANDY
Nice film! - Well done with all your adventures :) There appears to be several route options out of Dushanbe to Khorog - can you please share which route you chose and why? - I'm assuming you wanted quieter roads, but looks like a lot of climbing right away?? Thanks.
Thanks for the kind words! There are several options and I chose the most scenic based off other travelers I met in Dushanbe. It was also the most difficult with that mountain pass but wasn’t too bad. The hardest part for me was battling bacterial infections/parasites. My stomach was roughed up, which is why I took 10 days off in Khorog!
@@plantpoweredcyclist7978 Thanks for the reply. Yes, it appear many travellers in that region end up having stomach issues of some kind :( I'm heading to Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan in 10 days with my bike and I plan to be in the region for 3 months - the stomach thing has me worried!! Any advice or tips on how to avoid apart from the obvious?? I'll filter / treat all my water and be careful with basic hygiene, but I'm assuming the food you're served and it's preparation is the major culprit?
@@stephenhammond3656 Yeah you’re 100% spot on. Do your best to take proper precautions but a trip to Central Asia without a stomach bug or two isn’t a real one ;) it’s all part of the journey so I’d recommend seeing it as part of the process and for what it is! You’ll get lost in the vastness and beauty of the area and not focus on the what could happen! Enjoy it bro and please share your experience when all said and done!
@@plantpoweredcyclist7978 Great stuff :) - Thank you, yeah, I'm super excited about the trip.

Bro im foreign student in islamabad and i want cycling to anyplace in pakistan, can u tell me about the route .?
Amazing
Good
Nice place Denizli ♥️👑
Is it safe cycling or actually crossing on the bus as you are not allowed to cycle across from Tashkurgan to Sost on the Karakoram Highway with regards to landslides / stones falling etc? what is the best time in terms of months to cross this area on a bicycle as I am considering at some point. I wanted to thank you for doing this blog and loving your content keep pedalling bro!!
*Pazar*
The flight on the same route takes 50 minutes and costs 55 euros.
Because they want to give you more security. And just make sure that your journey should be safe and to avoid risk,
The guy at 9:00 should be punched in the face......
Hello
Any chance of getting through myanmar right now?
I'm not sure - I'm no where near that part of the world anymore...
@@plantpoweredcyclist7978 can I ask if you stayed at hindu or buddhist temples in india? I dont have a warm showers membership but heard tenting wasnt so safe, still want to tent mostly though. will be alone. okay to just ask at random temples?
Wild camping is almost impossible due to the dense population. I asked temples and churches, gurudwaras and was fine - just be prepared to wake up super early when the bells/loudspeaker go off. I also stuck to the small rural roads and was taken in by many families. Oyo hotels are disgusting-avoid them if possible. Also, booking.com is unreliable with prices. Every time I made a booking, I was never honored the price and was always told to pay double to triple the price fyi.
@@plantpoweredcyclist7978 wow ok thanks, what about just showing up with no reservation? possible to find a place that way or too risky? I usually bike about 5 hrs a day at 20kph so 100 kms. So I arrive where I'm going about 4pmish.
@@sirpaddlesworthiii5933 You'll just have to give it a go and see what happens. Good luck man! Enjoy the ride!
Awesome scenery,
Thanks bro!
What would you think of a solo woman doing this? Would there be friendly reception by the locals or would it be a cultural No-Go? And did you meet any other cyclists on the way?
I was in touch via WhatsApp for the cycling east group with a couple who recommended it. She wasn’t alone so I’m not sure how it would be received. The society is obviously male dominated but maybe they would offer to host you and you’d be hanging with the women in the family. Hard to say. I felt like an alien in Pakistan-people just staring at you and not even saying hello. It’s awkward at best. So I guess I don’t have a solid answer for you.
@@plantpoweredcyclist7978 Ok, thanks. What do you mean by 'cycling east group'? Yes, I guess hard to say. In Tajikistan I felt very well received as a solo female cyclist, was often invited by families. But obviously on the Pamir Highway they are very much used to cyclists passing by. And on this road they are not.
There is a group chats for cycle tourers for every continent on WhatsApp. So people were asking and posting about visa questions/border crossings/etc. I honestly think you’ll be fine but you’ll just have to go with your best instincts. You’ll need to mentally prepare more than anything. You’ll have celebrity status being a foreigner and even more so being a woman on a bicycle!
Its safe but Wear pakistani dress 👍🏻
So amazing. I was wondering whether this road can be cycled. So you proved it can. I meant to comment that luckily it's a lot of tarmac, but then when you mentioned the Tajik-style roads I had to laugh. Oh no, I found parts of the Pamir Highway so hard...What percentage of the whole trip was tarmac and what was dirt road, do you think? How long was the stretch that was really bad?
Hey Sonja! Thanks for the nice words :) Looking back on my map the road from Chitral to a little past Thingai is nicely paved and for the next 150 kms it’s bad. Plus I was sick for most of it - draining my energy. It was like once a week in Pakistan where I’d get sick from the food or water. The road was absolutely stunning and quiet so I loved that aspect but you know it’s only like that because very few will venture on such rough conditions even with a car!
@@plantpoweredcyclist7978 Thanks so much! Ok, 150km is not too bad. And it wasn't worse than Tajikistan, just comparable, right? I had bronchitis throughout the Pamir Highway's higher parts, so that hugely drained my energy, too...
It was bad - people who drove by in 4 wheel drive jeeps really complained lol so yeah it’s just as bad as Tajikistan. You’ll be fine!
U r so lucky 🍀

Literally man being an Indian, this is the reason that why we INDIANS don't have the courage to go out and enjoy cycling, camping all alone. I know such things will definitely happen because villagers have never ever seen such things like good bicycle, tents, living alone in the dark. Mark my words: You are a foreigner that's why they are still gentle to you, if it would be another brown man they would have simply robbed them or thrown him out of their territory as if you were a thief.
Thank you.
