Helikon Tex Haversack Review
I purchased this bag a few months ago and have used it whilst tracking wildlife as well as teaching and have put it through its paces to see the pitfalls but I couldn't find many, the few it does have are easily fixed. This is only my opinion and of course you may disagree with me and if I have missed anything or you have any questions leave a comment and I will reply as quickly as possible.

Channel Update for 2020
มุมมอง 1214 ปีที่แล้ว
A quick update of what I have been up to over the last few years and why I have not been posting videos. I've been busy gaining bushcraft and natural history qualifications whilst setting up Woodsman Bushcraft with my business partner Barry. you can find Barry on youtube on his channel at woodsmanbarry and see what we have both been busy doing at Woodsman Bushcraft. Thanks for watching, if you ...
Lockdown Woodland sit spot
มุมมอง 934 ปีที่แล้ว
Whilst on my tracking and trailing I spend time just sitting in the woods, I thought I would take you with me just in case you are unable to leave the house due to lockdown. This was taken at the end of the day when all the animals are roosting and bedding down. Let me know what you think and I can take you along for more. Thanks for watching.
Tree Felling Practice
มุมมอง 575 ปีที่แล้ว
So some of you know I am enrolled on a Level 4 applied Bushcraft course and on that course we need to fell trees with our Gransfors small forest axe. So I took Barry away so we could have some practice. We ended up in a small wood in North Kent for an overnighter. Their is a lot of rope throwing and chopping, evidentially we need more practice at rope throwing. I hope you enjoy this video and i...

Axe Sharpening
มุมมอง 537 ปีที่แล้ว
You never quite know whats lurking within the log you're chopping and it seems something was hiding in wait for my Swedish carving axe. It resembles a saw blade, which naturally I'm not happy with but with my Japanese Waterstones I plan to remove the damage. Thanks for watching :)
Grey Owl Paddle Repair
มุมมอง 9027 ปีที่แล้ว
My paddle met with a disaster and had its handle snapped off during my level 1 coaching course and as a snapped paddle wasn't covered under warranty, i decided other to bin it i would attempt to fix it. it seems to have been a success but we won't know until its been on the water (this weekend). I just don't see the point in paying for new kit when we can fix the kit we have. Thanks for watchin...

มุมมอง 11K7 ปีที่แล้ว
This is my 15 ft we-no-nah prospector, I'm off for an overnighter with the dog in a few weeks so its time to get it outfitted for the trip. I had to order this one from a UK website, as the only one I could find here in the US was the all black version. I was desperate to have the green and black version(like yours). Fortunately, it was free shipping, even though I'm in the US. I already own the Helikon Tex Bushcraft Satchel, but I needed to down size, as it was a bit too big for my liking. Also, the lack of a grab handle was annoying, too.

    G,Day Mate , my Helikon Tex Haversack cost me $75 ( Australian ) which I was happy to pay , considering what it cost to purchase similar quality items for twice the price so what you get is quite good for the price you pay and even though it is a tight fit , a nalgene bottle does fit in the internal water bottle sleeve , you just have to twist it like a screw when you are taking it in and out of the pack , nothing really hard about it . Cheers Mate , 👍🙂🇦🇺 .

      @@w.w.8823 1. Too high. The bow will be levered downwards causing it to zig-zag when towed. 2. Too far aft. There is no structural rigidity in a flat section of topsides. 3. Sharp edge. The hole should have been sanded or filed smooth and the edge chamfered. 4. No reinforcement. Epoxy could have been utilized to disperse forces. 5. Water ingress. A hole in the hull will let water in. Using epoxy to create a solid area spanning both holes would have eliminated the problem. 6. Water penetration. Water can enter the strata of the hull material causing delamination if not sealed with epoxy or similar. 7. Wrong knot. The forces could have spread to both sides if two knots were used. 8. Wrong material. Floating polypropylene line is weak and has no purpose in this application. 9. Too much rope. A meter of line where less than half would do a better job. 10. Zip ties??? Sailors, watermen, mariners, riggers and paddlers etc. don't need zip ties. You're welcome.

      Rameman thanks, I’ve spent most of my time in a kayak over the last few years but it’s always nice to get out in the big boat every so often. If you get a chance to pick up a beaver tail paddle I highly recommend it.

    • @Rameman33
      @Rameman33 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why a beaver tail in particular mate,i'd like to know as i'm going to K&P's at the weekend to get a paddle for the canoe.

    • @thewoodsmanthedog9836
      @thewoodsmanthedog9836 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry I meant a Ottertail (the one in the video) the beavertail was designed for whitewater but can be used on the flat as well.I haven't used one yet but fingers crossed. I had been using a Grey Owl voyageur made from laminated lime, ash, cherry and walnut for a couple of years and this is a very nice paddle don't get me wrong but once i'd used the Grey Owl cherry chieftain for this trip I was sold. The voyageur is quite a stiff paddle because it is laminated but is cheaper and can withstand more knocks because of it. Where as the chieftain is carved out of one solid piece of cherry so it is very soft, you get a much better feel for each paddle stroke but won't hold up to heavy power strokes or pry's (Its also expensive). I personally felt I had more control and could move faster through the water with the ottertail. Plus I loved the feel of the chieftain, there isn't a varnish on the paddle so its very tactile. if your buying a paddle don't forget to get a spare, doesn't need to be anything special but you will need it, you can pick up polyurethane paddle for under £20 that will do the job.

    What length cord did you use for each side?

    • @thewoodsmanthedog9836
      @thewoodsmanthedog9836 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dee Tee it obviously depends on the length of boat, but the rule of thumb is one and a half lengths of the boat for lacing each side. This will leave some left over for handy tie downs.
