What a wild day. We abandoned the ride at lunchtime as it was too dangerous to continue with 51mph winds. Peak Tours did an amazing job finding a coach within an hour to take us to our destination.

London Wales London 2024

On 4 May 2024, I cycled from London (well, Chalfont St Peter) to Wales and back. In a day - strictly speaking in 20 hours of cycling, arriving at 8.20am on Sunday. I was taking part in the annual London Wales London audax ride organised by Liam FitzPatrick and a team of wonderful organisers. Find out more at londonwaleslondon.com.
Faulty Giro Escape helmet strap

The helmet on my Giro Escape helmet was replaced after the strap came loose on a ride, leaving the helmet loose on my head. This same thing has happened on the replacement. The right side strap is only loosely fastened which means it works itself loose over time. I am worried what would happen in the event of an accident. Bob Skinner returns to his prewar homes and schools, 2004

In May 2004, I took my father, Bob Skinner, back to West Ham and Wandsworth, London, to visit his childhood homes and schools. It was a nostalgic return for him, and a fascinating glimpse of our family history for me. Bob died in 2023.
Bob Skinner Emanuel School

Bob Skinner was a pupil at Emanuel School, London, in 1938/39. When war broke out that September, his parents sent him to stay with his aunt in Cardiff, Wales. He never returned to Emanuel as a pupil, but returned aged 77 in 2004 to see his fondly-remembered old school.
Palace to Palace 2023

PayPal UK took part in the Prince's Trust Palace to Palace bike ride on 1 October 2023. We cycled from Buckingham Palace to Windsor, raising money for the Prince's Trust, which helps disadvantaged young people.
