For me, I get audio issues when running on the Gigabyte motherboard, maybe I should try the Motherbaord you use, here for refernece - it has difficulties trying to replicate those high frequencies... th-cam.com/video/m5B4SxDInFc/w-d-xo.html
For some reason, even by following both guides (video and the DOSBox-X wiki), the machine keeps stuc in the "copying files needed for Windows setup..." section. Yes, even after copying the files to the C drive, and I tried with other ISOs.
OK, I solved by changing the DOSBox-X version from 2024.10.01 to the 2024.07.01 release. The latest stable release didn't show the installation window.

Great video!
give error su992010 how to fix
whenever i add a new os to dosbox imma just make a entirely new folder for the version (i dont feel like merging it and having to do some weird stuff or whatever you do so you can select which one you wanna use)
The phrase you are looking for is "bridged network connection"
blessed upload
Second time i needed this video, thanks man!
Turns out the Linux build for PCEm is trash, and completely crashes for Voodoo cards, and most 3D accelerated cards. I will try with the same instructions, but on 86Box instead since at least 86Box has a sane AppImage versino of the entire project instead of having to crazily figure out the compile instructions when Windows users get an exe given to them. Annoying to say the least.
I tried following along on Linux Mint, but got until 30:30 until PCEm now crashes after trying to right click the desktop, and click Properties. Dang.
can you get network online to work with dosbox? Didn't see it.
Thank you! This completely solved my problems
I am getting stuck on the setup command. Nothing happens when I type setup
I made the fatal mistake of not reinserting the CD, and now Windows 95 is all fucked up, just like my life (at times).

I always wonder where í the file name "Games"?

THANK YOU, I'm running Silent Thunder 2 again!
Around 22:00 mins you mention having to convert to iso files. If instead of (at the beginning) using Raw .img you instead go with .vhd for your choice, you don't have to convert to iso. At least I'm led to believe this from other videos on youtube. You just 'Mount' and later 'Eject' the virtual harddrive (vhd) and browse to the .exe(s) that you want and run them up.
Do you know where project cars 1 would be located? I have it un installed but the game legit infected my g923 with a bug that makes the operation range lock not work on this thing. This is the closest lead I have gotten after days of reddit and forum searching and a warranty exchange didn't even fix the issue.
What other games / sims have you tried ? And have you defaulted settings in g hub also making sure your not letting g hub profile swap to its premade game profiles ?
I hate Windows 11!!!

Do you know how to change the windows system in the Dosbox?
i didnt get a bsod but somethin saying "The file "s3mm.dll" on Windows 95 Disc5 could not be found"
That is a new one. I do not know what that means maybe someone else here does. The best I can think is to reinstall and maybe try a deferent version of 95/98.
ran into this as well and it's a really easy fix! just click on "Browse" and point it to the cabinet file it's asking for in C:\WIN95.
for anyone that is still having this issue, you want to put C:\WIN95 in the "Copy files from:" area instead of the default D:\WIN95 that's how it worked for me at least
@@Alpha_Omega775 How can I run games on Windows 98 after installation?
Excellent video. Tip: After you partition/format the hard drive and are about in start the Windows install, copy the Win95 directory from the CD (your drive R:) to the hard drive and run setup from there. Why? The setup remembers where you installed Windows from (probably in the registry somewhere) and you won't get prompted for the CD in the future when you update the install. It automatically pulls the missing files from the C: drive without prompting. Makes things a little bit easier.
When given the choice between 95 and 98SE, always go for 98SE when you want to do a vintage gaming PC, whether bare metal or PCem. 98 had better driver support than 95 and didn’t have all of the wonkiness that 95 had.
Great video thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're welcome!
I'm just getting into PCEM v17 this week and haven't yet noticed any stability issues so far with my particular settings. Went with AMD K6-2/300mhz AFR-66 , Voodoo 3 3000 GPU, Soundblaster AWE32 and Windows 98. I installed DOS 6.22 first, including a DOS CD ROM driver but it probably would have worked fine installing Win 98 from the beginning. So far I've only tried a handful of games, including Midtown Madness 2, Sim Tower, and Myth 2 Soulblighter -- but they've been as smooth as running on original hardware after installing Voodoo 3 drivers + Direct X 7 or 8. Maybe PCEM needs to run on a high end system to achieve stability with those higher settings, I dunno. I'm running i9 13900k/4090 ..
Bro tried to pit manoeuvre you at the end there lol

By bloatware I hope you do not mean apps. 3rd party apps were never installed and this 'trick' only removes all the links to get the apps. Yes, it does clean up the start menu and saves you time deleting those links but otherwise it serves no other useful purpose. Which is not to say that it is worth knowing about, but in the end the out-of-box process count is just the same. It is not until Chris' Windows Utility is run that the real bloatware is removed.
Even his doesn't work anymore 100%. . A Windows update puts everything back in, so it's not even worth the hassle.
Before you install W11 ask yourself "what can I do in W11 that I can't in W10". Then ask yourself "do I need these features". For most people the answers will be nothing and No I that case stick with W10. nothing new to learn either.
You must change your regional information to get Microsoft Store😊
Somebody need to assist us on PCem17. The SB16 does not work anymore when installed through the OSR2.5 CD. I swear I really followed 100% exactly your guidance on the video and in the links and in the commands. I still cannot get sound and it's the new 17 version. Please assist I have been working on this for 48 hours. No it's not the parameters and if it is it is coding, not GUI.
This seems to be a unique problem with PCem 17. I'm not sure but maybe change the sound card in Pcem config and remove the device from windows 95 and ether try to reinstall the sound blaster 16 or maybe try a different sound card, the awe 32 works for me but you may need to down the windows 95 drivers off Archive.org.
I used the OSR2 CD and the sound blaster 16 worked right away.
ScummVM is super useful in ReactOS since to obtain the gamefiles ScummVM needs from the 100+ compatible game CD images found uploaded to archive, the "installer" on the image needs to be run to extract those files and modern Windows won't run those installer executables.
why would you use react os?
Easy gp farm use an auto clicker with an 8 second delay and a 0.5sec hold on the basketball game,u can turn 200 gil into 300 gp in about 7 min, cheaper and faster than chocobo betting..just do the double up sequence manually and then re engage the auto tooke about 2k gil to figure out timing
Undeniably the graphics have come a long way for the Mechwarrior series in going on 30 years but the music, ambiance, and other factors of these older games are still better in my opinion. Also guess I forgot you could have Arnold Schwarzenegger as a lancemate.
Hello. Are you able to connect USD devices, such as Win 9x supported gamepads, etc, like in a VM manager?
Unfortunately the is no real hardware passthrough with Pcem. the closest thing to that is the controller tab in the configure menu that has a few preset devices you can map your USB controllers to.
Is there a way to mount an E: drive? What I tried to do was set up a main C: HD then a second D: storage HD, then a CD-rom, E:, but apparently it does not support the E: drive.
I may not understand this right. You should be able to mount folders or Image files assigned from C to Z. In Dozbox-x You can setup up your virtual drives just by clicking on the Drive tab but you must setup all you drives you want to use before you boot the C: drive\Windows after windows is loaded mounting virtual drives is disabled.
@@Alpha_Omega775- I figured out how to assign individual drives in the config file at startup. This is my current autoexec configuration, if anyone else is interested. This creates an extra D: and E: hard drives (4gb each) and F:, G: and H: CD-ROM drives, so 3 cdrom images can be loaded at all times. @@Alpha_Omega775 If you want to run 16-bit programs in Windows 10 and beyond, use a program called WineVDM. All you have to do is extract WineVDM to a folder, and open the file called OTVDMW. In the new window that appears, navigate to the 16-bit program that you want to run and press Open. WineVDM can also run 16-bit installer programs as well. This saves you having to install Windows 95 just to be able to run those old 16-bit programs.
Great video thanks, only tutorial that showed exactly how to do it on PCemv17
